Your sibling can apply for you to emigrate to the USA. But the processing/wait time is about 10 years.

It doesn't have to reach 10 years.

I have cousins that migrated within 2 years despite having naked passport and no be say dem get money.

You are even a lucky. You knew there are efforts to assist you get over there ,just hasn't pull through yet. There are some people(same mother same father oOo) that will only be posting you and telling you to stay over and that just remain hopeful and actually ,the person isn't doing anything about it.

Hmmm, most people do not know what it feels like to be abroad.

Some people think that being there is easy.

Just because he changed $100 and sent to you, you think he has it all?

To be sincere, that $100 could be a lot to you down in naija. But it is nothing to him that is there. It can’t even pay his rent for a month, water, gas, electricity bills for a month.

You think it is easy for them? Surviving on their own is a big deal talk more of bringing a second party.

My brother. In as much as we rise by lifting others, but never have it at the back of your mind that anyone owes you anything. Nobody owes you shi shi.

If person dash you money, accept, if they do not, do not hold it against them, because they do not have two heads.

If person help you, be grateful, if person no come help you, nwanne move on, they do not owe you any help.

You see this mentality of entitlement? That is what is killing us in naija. This person should help me, but he is not, he is wicked. Lie lie, they are not wicked.

If they tell you what they pass through.

Shebi if you go city go hustle and ee no go well, you go see who you go borrow transport take enter villa come begin farm. You see them abroad? If ginger catch them, it is either they turn to street begger or they starve, no one send them there, this is not a case of I no wan stay again, make I go back to village, nwanne who wan give an money for ticket?

All I am saying is that, na patch patch all of us de do. Forget say when they wan visit, them go come fresh up, yes, the weather is good. They buy few new clothes. You see some of these faded color clothes, we de rock am, but you do not expect us to snap pics with them and post on social media.

Ee fit be say, ee no easy for your brother. No reason am.

Some are scared that once they bring you, you go begin mess up, if you get police case, na their head ee go land, if him talk say make him bone you and your case, people at home will call him evil.

There are so many reasons, why some won’t bring you there.

Find something and do for yourself,

You can also apply for visa for various countries, the same way that your brother did that time. Na the same head wey him carry na Im you too carry.

My own brother on green card has abandoned his siblings in Naija . Thank God I didn’t rely on anyone years back I stay focus and struggle hard and became a millionaire in Naija . My bro wife in the US , the lady’s mother and siblings enters the US regularly whereas my dad that paid for the whole travel process has not entered US.

We are in a new generation.you need to stay focus because their is no love anymore .if you rely on anyone including your siblings to come and take care of your problems then you will wait fore ever on the long run. Just struggle hard make your own plans and think for yourself and never ask anyone for help when you are on the right track. The end will justify you.

Someone who is relying on his brother to relocate will be able to afford the costs involved in Canada's emigration process?
He's asking what are the benefits,he didn't state that he's dependent on his brother

He can actually file a petition for a sibling visa with USCIS, form i130 for you. But the disadvantage is that it takes about 10yrs to mature, after which you get a straight green card.

Your brother can file for you but it will potentially be more than 10 years before you get an immigrant visa. But don't sweat it, 10 years is not a long time as per if this is what you really want in life. If he had filed for you say 2008 - 2010, you will probably be eligible by now. Ask him to file for you now and go about the business of your daily life. Come back in 2030 to reference this thread and prove all naysayers wrong grin

Its a lie ....I know someone that filed for his wife , it was approved within a month because he's in military

The GOSPEL TRUTH IS THAT YOU HAVE NO BENEFIT Except from the Fact that you have someone who can send you An IV Letter to go to the US Embassy..
He can also petition for you to travel to US but the process for brother / sister takes 7 to 10 years. The process takes a long period unlike when you petition for parents and own kids that are less than 21 years of age. The time frame for parents and that of biological kids can range from 4 months to 1 year

Nairaland has gone to the dogs. Someone will post a question and it will be hijacked by ignoramus spewing thra.sh. The whole first page comments couldn't even answer a simple question. Your brother or sibling can petition for you but it takes a long time perhaps 10-12 depending on the country of origin's priority date. I believe it is more beneficial for someone with a young sibling back in Nigeria or a sibling that is yet to find his or footing all those years in Nigeria.

It's shameful

Very shameful

Silly comments plenty

Wife (spouse)>brother according to immigration priority.
A spouse/child/parent petition usually takes less than 1 year or 2 at most.

Op, normally it should increase your chances of travelling and enjoying other benefits associated with someone having such a person over there BUT individual differences is a major factor irrespective of being related by blood.
Take it to the bank!

In my opinion, it actually reduces his chances from the embassy's view. They often make you fill out questionnaires to know if u have family members living in the US. If your answer is yes, then they start to look for more reasons not to think that you will return to your home country if you are applying for a visitor's visa.

@OP, your brother can file for you to come and live in the US with an immigrant visa, implying you with have a green card and a path to US citizenship if approved. However, it is age dependent. I believe you have to be age 21 or less, not too sure. You can read up more about the immigration stories on sites like www.visajourney.com, www.visapro.com etc.

Yorubas' usually say , "ajumobi o ko ti aanu ,eniti oluwa ba ran sini ni seni laanu. This saying may be translated (roughly done)as , rendering assistance or helping a fellow brother or sister is not must (even if na same mother ,same father) , it is only those assigned by God to be of help to you that will make it happen)

If your cousins went on a student visa, then that’s probably why it took less time.

Immigrant visa which gives a green card on approval takes no less than 10 years if the sponsor is a sibling.

That one is different

His wife is an IMMEDIATE RELATIVE

Immediate relatives get high preference

Like Parent to kid
And kid to parent
And spouses

But asides that
Brother and sister is second preference
That takes much longer

You get?
