CHOOSING THE RIGHT SCHOOL FOR YOUR POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

SOPWriter:
When it comes to choice of school, some individuals consider this as an herculean task, and that is why it could be hard to answer the “Why this school?” question, when standing in front of that beast of a VO.

As usual, I will be brief while giving out my tips.

You are welcome to ask your questions as we proceed.

STEP 1
Search for the best set of schools in your field: There are numerous prestigious schools around the world, but each is known for the quality of students it produces (in a particular discipline or more).
Now, before choosing an institution that you want to invest your precious time and money into, you should crosscheck it to know if it really worth it. Go on the internet, and then research about its exploit in your field. A website such as https://www.usnews.com is a good tool.

Step 2
Check the cost: There is this saying, “Soup wey sweet, na money kill am.” Meaning, something good costs money. The next thing after listing out the schools that are in line with your goal is to check the tuition to see if you are capable of affording them. If you can’t, there is option of financial aid, especially if you have good academic qualifications. Contact financial aid immediately! Inquire!

STEP 3
Check and confirm you meet each of the school’s academic qualification: This is quite straightforward. Visit the school’s admission eligibility page to see if you meet its admission requirements. Don’t waste application fee!

STEP 4
Apply: You are wondering if it is that simple? Of course, yes, it is as simple as that. Go ahead and apply to that school of your interest, and then follow up with the undergraduate or graduate admission office via phone call or email.

I have taken out of my valuable time to write this short piece, in order to guide someone out there, and I hope you will find this useful.

I wish that somebody a good kind of luck.

Hello all, I just want to ascertain something. Can I bring any form of government issued ID to the center? Or must it be my passport? It won’t be funny if I show them my national ID and they refuse it

When you registered, did you not see where it was explicitly stated that ONLY an unexpired international passport will be used as a means of identification?

You'll definitely be turned back. The ID requirement is explicitly stated on ETS website.

PLEASE TAKE YOUR TIME TO READ...!!!

I would like to bring to the notice of all prospective students wishing to take the GRE or TOEFL of a major SCAM on this page.

There is one MCFEDUTUTORS (his name is evkunle on nairaland) that cheated me after sending 45k to him to register me for the Toefl exam. I told him to register me for the 14th of December 2019. After sending the money he couldn't do it. Due to timeline of my applications, I decided to pay myself on ets website with incured expenses on late registration fee. At the same time, I and evkunle had an agreement and he promised to refund me on Friday, 13th December 2019. TILL THIS POINT, he has refused to refund.

After this agreement I was expecting my refund but to my surprise he went ahead to register me later for 21st December without asking me. He claimed his friend was trying and it went through. I was so furious and told him I never asked for another registration but refund.

I told him to cancel it because I never asked for 21st December for the exam since we already agreed on refund and I paid already for 14th December myself. He refused to reply my messages. I later canceled it and he got the refund on his card (I have the proof direct from ETS). Still he has refused to refund me.

My brother went to his supposed office address in Lagos as stated on his website but they don't exist there and only in Ibadan. We have also invited him to come with his lawyer to the Police to settle this case but he refused to show up.

I would advice everyone here TO STAY CLEAR OF PATRONIZING MCFEDUTUTORS. If you care to confirm, I have evidence of all our discussions. Up till date, I'm still making efforts to get my money. I've given him several chances to refund my money but he has refused. That's why I am coming out this way. Its not in my nature to soil someone's reputation but I won't want anyone to fall victim again.

Just be warned.

Although, it's important to hear from both sides but in foreign exam registration like the CFA, GMAT, GRE, IELTS/TOEFL. It's important to use reputable third party organisations who have been doing the business for at least five years with few hiccups here and there and not one roadside JAMB-like exam registration centre. For the GRE, if it's not BY MAFIT or any other reputable third party organisation, then pay direct to the ETS. Going through these fvcktards masquerading as GRE registration agents will do harm than good. How they even get to offer the service for almost half the price of ETS is what I don't understand.

[quote author=Prettygud post=82869101]I have a magoosh premium account to share with anyone that is interested.

I wrote my GRE today.. Twas not as I expected. As a first time taker, I thought it was just some baby exam. I start prep August, so my prep was just approximately 2 months.

Some bad luck started following me from 6am today when I woke up, I stood straight to stretch, not knowing the fan was not really far up, I ended up cutting my right hand finger nails into two, blood everywhere. This happened because it's not my house, I didn't know the fan was low. I went to a near by chemist to treat my self. This weakened my confidence as I could nearly hold a pen. (don't stretch if u aren't familiar with the room on the day of ur test angry..)
Anyways I got to the centre in abuja 8:40am, the whole check in process was carried out and we started.
I have long Bern praying for 3 quants but after the incident I pray for 3 verbal( which I wasn't good at).
I wrote the test with the pain. Typing wasn't easy. But I know I did well in the AWA, my topics were sweet, straight forward, already worked on similar topics from the ETS pool of essays. I should write about 700 words for each, could have written more if I could be faster.
Pls i am interested for the mangoosh premium accounts. Oluchukwu.udenze@gmail.com

Please avoid plenty materials.

Just use the ETS materials and Manhattan (only when you need clarification on concepts)

Use the Powerprep test to predict your score. Alternatively, use princeton online test too (it comes close to the real GRE standard).

Ensure you don't use too many materials as that will be your undoing.

Goodt luck

Hello guys

I am just stumbling on this page.

If only I had come to NL before my exams, I perhaps would have done better.

I gave my exams in December, but the scores were really poor - 299.

With the kind of results and comments I am seeing here, I really don't know if this score is okay for a top 100 school (which I already applied in).

Thus, I will like to ask if anyone knows if admission results are strictly based on GRE scores or on other requirements.

Thank you

I registered with affordable tests for my gre test November 2019 and I wrote the test on 15th December 2019. The testing agency sent my scores to the schools I applied to and all was well till Saturday, January 18th 2020 when I received a mail from ETS that I have an outstanding of $480 on my account as a result of a charge back fee of $220 plus service fee of $20 requested twice (that's a total of $480) by the owner of the credit card used to register me and a hold has been put on my scores. I mailed them and told them a mistake must have occurred as I was scared of my scores being affected. While I waited for a reply, I messaged affordable tests yesterday and told him everything with screenshots of the mail I received. He denied requesting for a chargeback and also asked me to mail them. Before I knew what was happening, affordable tests blocked my number on WhatsApp and blocked my other number too.
Today, ETS replied me and here is a screenshot of their response.

But you saw your score on test day na. Retake if possible before any deadline you may be looking at. Admissions are increasingly competitive so you may want to give it your best shot.

Also, not to be unnecessarily pedantic but the correct grammar is ‘I took/sat for my exams in December.’ I’ve noticed Indians typically use ‘gave’ but that doesn’t make it correct. For example, a sentence may read correctly as: “ the ETS/ a professor/ a teacher/an exam body gives or writes (American context) exams for candidates/students/pupils to take/sit for or write (British/Nigerian context).”

Best of luck with your applications. Hope you achieve your goal(s).

Sequel to my previous post of my experience with MCFEDUTUTORS aka evkunle. These are some of my evidence of our chats. You can follow through, look at the timing too and relate with the story.

I repeat again, DO NOT PATRONIZE MCFEDUTUTORS. Also, I challenge him to refute any of my claims because I noticed he still makes adverts here.
