I don't know if this is the right place to post this terrifying experience. I travelled home (to Nigeria) last month. My cousins told me mermaids had been spotted at the village stream (iyi) numerous times, and the elders had decided people should stop going to the stream. They were literally shaking. I laughed in their faces. Mermaids? Were they sure? I told them off for being idiots and they shook their heads,

On December 24th we were supposed to go watch football. After I waited for them in front of our compound, I thought perhaps they had gone to the stream. I began walking there. As I approached I heard the sound of voices, like people jumping in the water and shouting for joy. I said to myself, "See these boys oh. So na here dem come to enjoy with their babes."

When I emerged on the water, my head began to swell. I mean literally. I saw a woman with reddish skin lying on her back on the bank, her legs raised. A good looking man with a band of cowries around his wrist was on top of her moving his hips powerfully between her thighs. They saw me. Stopped. They looked at me. I just stood there as if a giant hand pressed me to the spot.

Then they slipped quietly into the water, and submerged themselves, completely disappeared. I'm not ashamed to say I ran from that place screaming like a girl.

Some people have suggested I go for cleansing. But apart from some nightmares, I feel okay.

But damn! It's the most bizarre experience of my life!!!!!!

Anyone have a similar experience?

I did think of this. But the woman's skin didn't look like it had palm oil on it. Looked more like reddish fish. You know, like tilapia sometimes looks.

I believe you OP. As an African man, i believe that such creatures exists! The whites have taken away our beliefs and culture away from us and left us in between no where.
Tag me foolish or uncivilized but i still believe that spirits, ghosts, re-incarnation, mermaids, gods and magic exists.
It is what my fathers before me believed. It is my heritage!

I once saw 3 creatures 6ft tall, moving around a tree in the middle of the night, I was a child then. Something prompt me to wake up as I was staying in the same room with my greatgrandmom (may her soul rest in peace). I woke up peeped through the window and I saw them with the head of a beast that is not know to man, and a tail, standing erect and walking around a big tree. I could see this because there was light pointing at the tree. more like a (can't describe) but very scary. I saw this from the first floor. No body believes this till today except my siblings.
It is one of those things that makes you kind of see life in a different way.
I think that tree has some spiritual significance to it.
This happened in Edo state by the way.
Funny enough I'm one of very few people that saw a lot of abnormal things as a child.
This is just one of them. But like I said it sound strange and impossible.
So there's likely the op saw sth like that.

A friend of mine once saw the popular bush baby that carries mat as a child, he said he looked at it and he saw a very old but small looking man with a mat, that he was the only one to see it and no one else even though it was in a public place. Let me stop here. There's a lot I've seen that I can't say. But the bottom line is that this things happen.

When we were growing up my sister used to see a woman come take care of her in the night, at first she taught it was our mother who sleep in a bed near hers but she would look to see my mother still lying down and this woman sitting beside her on the bed patting her head and afterwards she would crawl out through an opening on the roof. At nights she gets very scared and afraid of sleeping alone

This is very common with children between the ages of 3 and 6. At this age, their way of reasoning is beyond logic and perceive other dimensions adults can't comprehend. We are not alone!
