this is exactly what I was expecting people to think, but no, everyone is busy advising the guy to add ma, or beg for forgiveness. can u imagine? do people even know that they have rights? why are we so timid and meager? so afraid of consequences that doesn't exist. the Nigerian worker lacks knowledge of labour laws and workers rights, thats why we are so afraid of our bosses instead of it being the other way around where bosses are terrified of employees because they know those employees can easily sue them for little things as poor working conditions. it's a miserable situation here really

If you think Nigerian employees are timid, you need to know and see what they are facing, before coming to such conclusion.

In those countries of yonder, there are emplyee-rights law that are supported by Unions that can even take your case to Labour/Industrial courts where the Judges dont send any useless employer and will not blink before imposing crippling punishment that may even close down a company!

In Nigeria, our Jduges are bribe-takers such that even when some employees develop the liver to challenege thei wicked Boss in court, the Judge and court registara will frustrate their case and keep adjourning it sine-die.....forever!
In Nigeria, you wont easily get Human Righst lawyers that are ready to work Pro Bono and where you get one, he would g and collect bribe from your employer so tha he can destriy your case or even agree to out of court settlement, behind your back.

If you are still in doubt, go and read about how Oshiomole, this same Oshiomole, entered into Politics, from a a Labour Union leader, with the same Reuben Abatti (now also a Politician in Ogun State) whose Guardian article every thursday, is a must-read!
Go and rad about how these two betrayed the striking workers/Labourers and sold-out to then President Obasanjo, during one of OBJ's seven Fuel price increase in eight years and they were handsomely rewarded with cash, land gift and Political backing (Reuben Abatti was made the spokeman for OBJ's regime)
What about Segun Adeniyi, of Thisday Newspaper?

Point l am making is that in Nigeria, the worker has no form of protection and even foreigners kill their nigerian workers and all they need to do is settle the Nigerian Police and they are free to walk!
Can that happen anywhere in thos eplaces you are talking about?

As l write this, there is aJournalist called Agba Jalingo, who ahs been thrwon into a dungeon and tortured by the Governor of Cross River state, ben Ayade, because he reported on a scam perpetrated by the Governor.
Nobody is speaking out fo the guy t be charged to court or released and l hear that the guy is tied to afreezer, where he is locked up!
Can even a prime Minister do that to a journalist, in those places where the meployees know their rights and fight for it?
lets cut the Nigerian worker some slack, their challenges are better imagined than experienced.

Relax, she didn't confront you that means she isn't angry with what you said. If she found what you said irrating she would have responded directly to you and not involved a third party (her house help)

When she comes back, greet her normally and continue with your job, it's most likely that she'll let it slide or informally ask you what you meant by that statement. If the later is the case, simply tell her that you were appreciating God's creative art work in her and nothing more... believe me, women love being appreciated regardless of how unapproachable or mean they might look. That reply alone would make her giggle and give a fake hiss and ask you to return back to your job. But deep down she will be the happiest person that day.

There's nothing to worry about. No female boss would sack her staff for complimenting her looks.

But next time learn to mind your business...it reduces problems and unnecessary anxeity.

Maybe she was confused with your bolded and wants an explanation. What is so hard about saying/typing "Good afternoon" or "Good morning"? I will want you to explain to me what you meant, too. Silly.

I don't think you should lose sleep over this. She's just being a brat if you ask me.

If she's looking for an ego boost, simply apologize to her. If possible, go to the extent of prostration. Stay in a prostrate position for a long time. Let her know it was harmless. That it is "overdo" that is worrying you.

I'm sure she'll eventually calm down and let you go. Next time, be careful. People may misread your actions. That's why I'm very careful about commenting women. Next thing, they'll be looking at you for a relationship or wondering what you really want. Best you just comot eye.

But nonetheless, Nigerians (especially Nigerian males) have to learn to maintain PROFESSIONAL boundaries.

Bravo! Nice one coach. You should be a relationship expert. Your response is by far the most reasonable so far. Women, regardless of their age wants to be appreciated. Whether she's 6 or 98 years, they still want to be appreciated. No woman on earth would fire an employee for saying you look good ma'am. Never....she would probably tell you not to do it again, perhaps her husband saw it.

It's inappropriate and unprofessional for you to comment as such on your boss' posted picture.
You deserve to be sacked from that job.

There's nothing unprofessional about complimenting your boss' looks, especially when you use choose your words carefully. "you look good ma" doesn't have any sexual undertone. So it's not inappropriate. Only problem is if he constantly compliments her. Occasionally complimenting one's boss isn't wrong if it's done 'once in a while'.
