This news sweet me pass morning wine. I never knew I would say this but nice one from Buhari grin

I remember one thread a long time ago when some jambites were arguing with me that ports in the East were naturally disadvantaged. I told these clowns that if you dredge them, repair the access roads and police the waters effectively there is no reason why shippers will not flock there. Even without those being done the foreign shippers have had enough and are going anyway.

And you are insulting Edo state just because you guys have arguments here, you people think social media will just give you what you want. Try to be in Edo state to see for your self gelegele sea port

South East, south South is southern state but with love and unity we can stay together, insults here on nairaland will not change your life positively

Yeah, 'South Eastmost' I mean to say but Borno State is not 'Eastmost' either, 'North Eastmost' too.

Whether north or south, no state in Nigeria is geographically more east than Borno state. Naija map is there for you.

It baffles me how they keep marginalizing the East in virtually every means possible yet still wonder why agitation for Biafra is popular among the people. The truth is that Igbos would want to remain in Nigeria if there is fairness to all. Even the yorubas that keep criticizing the Igbos for wanting to break up Nigeria would have done worse if they are marginalized the same way Igbos have been marginalized since the end of the civil war.
It is evil when you desire the status qou to remain simply because you are gaining from another man's misfortune.

Atleast no more excuse and continous cry and whining over SouthWest development, SouthWest Ports would serve Southwest markets and Southwest industry , and economy

and should you remain to continue doing bussiness because Southwest has the most cashflow and highest non oil GDP, then be ready to pay tax through your nose to Alpha Beta

The funny thing is that sadistic envy, jealousy and wickedness in some people will not allow them to see that this is a welcome development, a win-win for both East and West, and indeed Nigeria but in their myopic nature, they see it that East is going to gain while West is going to lose.

Lagos is completely choked up and bursting at the seams which makes life miserable for its inhabitants yet every effort to decongest it is seen from a narrow tribal angle of it's going to benefit others. Ethnocentrism and selfishness is the reason why every damn thing in Nigeria is kept in Lagos. For God's sake, decentralize everything in Nigeria, things like seaports, airports, embassies/consulate offices, Federal parastatels, industries, business and commerce should be spread across Nigeria.

South Africa has several great cities and didn't myopically concentrate everything in Johannesburg like Nigeria did with Lagos. Government must make conscious efforts to decongest Lagos by putting in place policies that will make other places attractive to such investments and Nigeria would be the better for it.

70% of Lagosians would want to live outside Lagos if their income/revenue will be guaranteed. Because everything is concentrated there thereby making other cities unviable, everyone remains in Lagos while more continue to flood in on a daily basis.

The truth is that if the status quo continues without a conscious effort to move other economic enablers outside Lagos, the city will continue to balloon until it breaks down completely.

Once the Eastern ports become fully operational, Igbos should relocate Ladipo spare parts market to Nnewi, computer village to Onitsha, and clothing and fabrics to Aba and make them hubs for these businesses. Onitsha and Nnewi are more centralized and easily accessible to most Nigerians than Lagos.

If/when Enugu airport becomes operational again, and Buhari shows that he is not against Igbo interest by equipping it and allowing international airlines to use it, then Igbos have the capacity to ensure it becomes a regional hub.
Nigeria will breakup if things continue to deteriorate like this and if others want Nigeria to remain as one, it is not rocket science, but a simple fairness to all will ensure that.

Igbos do not hate Buhari because they don't like his face rather it was his anticidents that caused it. If he changes today, and some of his new unbiased policies doesn't turn out to be a flash in the pan or for selfish political interests geared towards 2023 as some pundits are saying, then he can be rest assured that Igbos will love him. Igbos loved GEJ, not because he did anything tangible for Igbos but simply because we perceived him as being fair.

Give Igbos a fair playing ground and sense of belonging that have been lacking in this country due to a gang up against them, and watch the agitation for breakup die down.

My friend read and move forward, Nigeria doesn't start and end in West, East has big markets, it's easier for northerners to come to East for their goods than West, go and check the distance from Onitsha to Abuja and Lagos to Abuja, FG is also also constructing road from Anambra to Kogi, when completed distance will reduce from Onitsha to Abuja for just three hours.

Abeg any thread about the road?

E pain you attach by force.

You will seat in the East and start addressing people in the Niger delta as Easterners because they were part of Eastern region when the people do not see themselves as Easterners but rather Niger deltans/South South. Keep fooling yourself. The next thing you will claim you’re from south South.

Sorry, may be i would have said Buhari moved Maersk to Onne by his policies via NPA. Sorry oooooo Oga
Maerskline decided to move to Onne because of amount of extra charges caused by delay due to lagos congestion...

The statement said in part: “it is our pleasure to announce that our Far East (China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore) service will no longer be calling at Lagos Ports but now comes to Onne directly, giving you a reduced transit time. This is effective this Jan 2020.”

Maxymilliano:
Good move by Maerskline, I hope other shipping lines will follow suit. The massive congestion at the Lagos port is counter productive and inhibit profitabilities.

Container laden vessels with goods and merchandise are currently idling away on international waters for almost 8 weeks with no clear date of berthing due to congestion at the port. Additional 10-12 days will be required for the containers to find its way out of the port.

This sloppiness is affecting many organizations and multinationals, sadly, the government, as represented by the Custom's is more interested in generating money.
