You people really take us for granted, I am from Niger State and I can tell you that we have more than enough qualified candidates to fill the whole rumored 1300 candidates that will be employed. I know a first class Civil Engineering candidate that didn't make it to the interview becos of the high competition frm his local government. We have a group chat for NNPC hopefuls from my state and I guarantee you, you cannot match the brightness of our minds. Stop saying we can't fill up our slots. We are northerners yes, but do not underestimate us from your assumptions. Peace

While we wait on NNPC, what are the relevant skills i can sharpen myself to work effectively in the oil and gas sector as a mechanical engineer?

Aside the regular Solid works (improved AutoCAD) you can try as much as possible to learn the following
P&ID diagram , Piping Engineering(Flanges and their class, class 150 , class 300 ,class 600) with some knowledge on CP(Cathodic protection) , different valves types and their functions, actuators ,Compressors and pumps. Heat exchanger and boiler arrangements, indirect water heater. For natural gas measurements acquit yourself with flow meters such as Turbine meters, mechanical bath chart etc . My brother with these knowledge acquired, if they don't call you then you have to call yourself.(on a lighter note )
