I will advise him to buy bonds of 3 to 5 years and hold this maturity. Interest rates will affect the prices of bonds. It is very rare for a bond bought in the primary market to lose price.

In addition to @emmanuelewumi if you think 3 to 5years looks far too long, you can also look at d way of VGIF manage by investment one going by the nature and operations of fund it fits well to your risk appetite. The capital is guaranteed with a 8.5% rate bench marked with SDF rate that is also guaranteed + 35% of the funds net profit which varies base on profit By picking the option to reinvest you will achieve your goal. You can also cash out anytime after the first 6 months or hold as long as you wish. In summary I advice go for Bond long term or VGIF medium with reinvest option.

No, capital isn't. You can have gains and losses if the value of the underlying bonds rises or falls. I'm not sure if their bond fund pays interest or adds the interest to your NAV. Please find out.
I can't say which is better. If you can't stand a loss, maybe an MMF would be better. The low rates won't be here forever.

Perhaps Mr emmanuelewumi and emmasoft can proffer advice on this.

Thank you. The reason I invested in the Bond fund was that its advertised interest rate of around 10.3% is higher than their MMF of 7.2%. So I decided to go for bond fund.
The reason why I am a bit surprised at your submission because they advertised an interest rate of over 10% which would imply increase in my funds not decrease.
The finally got back on my email and WhatsApp inquiry that they were sorry about the inconvenience and would get back to me as to what happened to my account.
I am still awaiting.

I have stopped bothering as to if they have credited my accrued interest for the day.
Don't give yourself unnecessary headache either.
They seem to add the days together on other days.

In as much as effeciency is not to be compromised, sometimes let's remember these fund managers are also operating in though business environment like any other Nigerian company.situations are hardly ideal. Issues comes up sometimes but be rest assured that they have regulators who are always on their neck for compliance. There is a system in place clients will not be cheated. Just know it that any issues bordering on interest, services or discripancies of any form will always be corrected in no time. It's well and God will bless our hustling.

What was the offer price of each unit when you invested. Compare that to the offer price now and calculate the percentage difference

I don't understand what's up with United Capital PLC.
I placed N1,000,000 in their bond fund just over a week ago.
Each time I check not one kobo accrued as interest.
Only for me to check this afternoon and almost N10,000 has been wiped from my account balance.
I thought my capital should be preserved in a bond fund.
I sent WhatsApp message to customer care. They read but are yet to respond.
I have been calling Customer care but no one is picking my call.
I also sent email, and I am still awaiting response.
Can't one do business with these people and hold them to their word?

They sent me a message this morning that they had a system glitch.
They gave assurances that my account balance would be normalized shortly.
So, I guess its not what the friend in the first response thought.
But we still wait. Thank you all for your responses.

January is almost gone if you are waiting for high rate before you invest by leaving your money idle in your hands, You are losing from both side because the money is depreciating and there is no addition whatsoever. In physics there will be work done only when a force moves or cover a distance, no matter how little the distance. So there is work (profit) when force (Money) cover a distance(is invested). Be wise!

Please. What's the interest rate for ARM?

civilserva:
I use FBNquest, ARM and IBTC.
ARM and StanbicIBTC are the best in terms of customer service , account top up and redemption. ARM is the best in terms of yield.
I will close FBNQUEST account this month.

If you have followed the discussion on this thread so far, varied number of Mutual Fund Operators have been mentioned such as ARM, STANBIC MMF, Investment One, FBN Quest etc. You can make your choice among the many and be doing the monthly commitment.... Go the MMF way and make a choice that meets your investment goals.
Note that you can get the emails of these investment houses and make your direct and specific enquries as regards their modus operandi.

@emmanuelewumi and @emmasoft

Please when was the last time interest rates dropped this low?

Secondly, my company had a financial strategy session last week where Mr Bismarck Rewane was invited to speak and he mentioned in passing that the rates are expected to be back up sometime mid year. Do you agree with this or do you have other information regarding when rates will bounce back.

Thirdly a friend who is a former Finance controller mentioned that the rates are typical of a post election year, how true or valid is this position?

Any other contribution from any one is also highly welcome. By the way I don't like the interest I am getting on my 9.6m in FBN quest it's really discouraging and not what I bargained for...lol
