Inasmuch as I want the progress of Lagos, some laws can be unreasonable

Commercial buses are very few that ply within Apapa. How do they expect someone on Creek road to move to Airways, for example?

From CMS to Obalende, the major means of mobility are rickshaws. So will one request a chopper to move about within Lagos island?

Let me not even get started about short distances within the affected local government

Banning them completely is unreasonable.
Rather, ban them from some selected routes

Same reason lagos tried banning hijab in schools. Coded discrimination.
They are doing this for crime.
See as eti osa de there.
I don't blame them sha to be honest.

This is a very good decision by the Lagos state government. The whole of the state is becoming defaced with the multitude of motorbikes and tricycles that are being used for commercial transportation. The LASG should not have allowed the so-called O Pay etc in the first instance. Any form of motorbike transportation is not proper for a city like Lagos!

Very mumu government we hv in Lagos. What’s the alternative b4 u ban anything or people shud now walk long distances from point A to point b.

U didn’t create an alternative short mode of transport. The roads are bad. Not everybody has cars or drives it everytime.

This Lagos State Governor/government is ridiculous. This guy might not do better than Ambode if time isn’t taken.

Government that doesn’t think. Dumb laws

Crime, you say?

Compare the people that are being robbed with bikes, to people that earn a living from it and people that receive satisfaction(getting to their destination) from it too

One common trait from our leaders is they bring in policies to suit themselves (most times),
instead of the people.

It's not about crime, in my opinion

This is commendable!

From Anambra state, I support this move with 1 million Naira to empower the task force that will clamp down on those animals.

Those animal bike and keke people made me run away from Lagos with my car. Infact, I had to move back my two cars to the East and kept only 1 in Lagos because these animals were hell bent on turning them to Kabu Kabu.

Lagos has now become a mad max kind of city with no laws at all. Green green bikes every where. At a time, I was asking who will rescue this city because its now madness all over!

Sanwo Olu, I am an Igbo man but I love and commend you with passion. You are far better than that baby pig called Ambode.

Under you, the potholes are disappearing at an alarming rate. From Ijaiye road down to Akilo down to Oba Akran ontoward Maryland, your good works speaks for themselves.

Even Ahmadu Bello on Victoria Island now wears a new look under you. Thank you sir.

Naptu2, if you are close to this government, please tell them to take the enforcement very serious be
Great submission. Thank you.

It doesn't matter if 1 million people use it legally but 500 use it to kill. The right to life for those 500 trumps the 1 mil. See the areas them ban. The same way lagos drove out molue. Which people de operate bike de most?
It is in higher income areas they banned it.
Areas that maybe once their workers get close then fit send car with driver for the rest of the journey or even don't care if the poor worker has to trek
In my dad's area about 10 years ago thry all fired their mallams. I ask why he said they are the obes bringing the thieves. No one in the estate had a guard anymore. If it affected crime i do not know sha. Buf til today no mallams.
I was just pointing out that lagos has a coded way of doing things without opening mouth

Let all the internal roads be fixed first, then the government can go ahead and ban just anything they deemed obstructive, especially where such obstruction is relative. Without this, the outcome of such exercise may be synonymous with creating a problem out of another problem, which will be tantamount to escalation of same, it won't always turn out well whenever the cat is placed before the horse. Let all the city road and inter-network street route be upgraded and properly linked together, this will naturally make the implementation and adherence to such rule possible due to available plausible alternative. Once our elected officers start undertaking a human friendly approach to governance, leadership becomes endearing and easy. Let the same quantum of energy expended on stereotyping be extended to developing human capacity and infrastructure, when the environment is neat and attractive you wouldn't need someone to tell you to dispose off your trash properly.

Re: LASG Bans Keke And Okada From Some Local Governments In Lagos. by 0monnak0da: 4:39pm On Jan 27, 2020
People should walk or use bicycles for short distances
25 years ago we did not have the proliferation of okada and people still moved about in Apapa.

How do people travel short distances in London where there is poor Tube coverage?

They take buses ,taxis or walk

In Amsterdam they ride bicycles

The only problem with this policy is that it does not cover the whole state thereby creating a sort of apartheid.

Okada work in Lagos state cannot be a solution for national unemployment

I would suggest that in those places where okada remains there should be a timetable to a total ban across the state
Also there should be a fixed quota of total number of riders for each local government area who cannot only operate with a permit licence.
This should be reserved ONLY for people who can pass an interview conducted in Yoruba language

The Lagos State Government has banned motorcycle taxis, popularly known as Okada and auto-rickshaws, popularly known as Keke Marwa from operating in some local governments in the state. The ban takes effect from February 1, 2019.

The local governments include Lagos Island Local Government, Eti-Osa, Apapa, Surulere and Ikeja. This was made known by the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Lagos State Governor on New Media, Mr Jubril Gawat. The ban will also affect ride hailing services like O-Pay and Gokada.

Some times when people jubilate over these policies I am very amused. These elected Governor's only ban the bikes because it doesn't affect them. When they travel to the UK and US they rush back to implement things that would create problems for those living in the state. How can you compare other states to Lagos when Lagos might as well have a population of 20 million squeezed into the smallest state in Nigeria. The roads are nothing to write home about. Even on the island when it rains, you are in serious trouble. There are places were if there are no bikes available the average life span would probably reduce to 50 years. If the roads were good, who would care about banning? The government should do there work first before taken the easiest route any government can take which is to BAN. You don't need to be a genius before you do that.
