I didn't have to read to know this its just simple logic, same scenario normally plays in stroke patients, stroke is not caused by juju most times it's the persons lifestyle.

A lifestyle of alcohol and party without exercise might land u one and u would blame it on ur enemies

I quite agree with you though.....undo some may be spiritual...

The boy who ran mad do a deeper research about him and his relatives if noone has any history of mental disorders.

There's a possibility that the boy might be adopted
I don't know much about his background...but do you think its coincidental cuz he lost his sanity while reading..

That's what they always say.

Google the Ernest Asuzu Nollywood actor who is begging cause of stroke. The church scenario I don't want to blasphemy but a lot of things about his testimony doesn't add up.

According to him a strange girl slapped him physically and he didn't see her again, then one of the directors said this would be his last film.

From my understanding, he didn't want to tell the church that he got into a drunken fight with a prostitute who slapped him. That one apart he said he got healed.

BUT if u watch the wife's reaction when he got healed it was as if she wasn't moved, then go watch her reaction the moment the church said they were giving her and her husband a car and 1.5m. She was rolling all over the floor.

Get d picture.

If u get stroke and u think its spiritual and instead of seeking medical help u start going to a shrine to fight it, SORRY IS YOUR NAME

Its coincidence.

If reading made people mad by now I won't be chatting with u, u won't know I exist.

When I was in secondary school my zeal for knowledge made me settle down to read almost every single book in our school library. Except music books. And I am still here talkless of a kid who is just reading a dictionary, that's for beginners. Our time we had to read cause there was no internet.

I don't believe reading can make anyone mad. Every part of our body has their workout pattern. Gyming- for the body, reading- for the brain etc. The problem comes when one fails to rest and take proper nutrients after those workouts . That's when madness or other forms of ailments come into play. Reading can never make any body mad.

Hello Nairalanders

This issue has been bothering me for a while now......I had this friend who during our school days was so brilliant,in fact this friend of mine wrote his common entrance at primary 4....at jss1 he wrote his junior WAEC....
Back them we nickname him The "guru"....There was no time I visited him at home, that I wouldn't see him reading, this guy can read from morning till night.....though I was irritated with his attitude but I kept on admiring him because there is nothing in this world that this guy don't know....there is no words in the dictionary that is new to him... he was respected among our peers.....

suddenly,he was no longer communicating with us with plain English, any small question will always be meant with grammar...in fact this guy will go to the market to buy something and will begin to communicate with the market people with grammar...they we just be looking at him like a madman...

Then, one fateful day according to his mother,he ran out with a dictionary screaming "loquacious"all effort to calm him was in vain
the guy is in the asylum right now.....

This episode as left me confuse.....expert in the house can you help me out.....

CAN A PERSON LOSE HIS SANITY DUE TO EXCESSIVE READING??

This one loud. Loquacious.

Yes, too much of everything is bad. I have seen and heard similar stories.

It doesn't make you any special. More reason you should be grateful to God.

Its just like a case of armed robbery where one's first attempt got him caught while another has been at it for 14 years or where someone caught HIV at first encounter with a girl while another has lost count with no infection yet.

Reading can never make u insane.
U become insane by excessive reading because u can't control your mind which are most probably impeded by negative thinking and u lack the right social and environmental support from ur family and peers who would rather stigmatize u than support u.

The neural pathway it takes for the brain to study and read is different from the neural pathway it takes for someone to loose his or her control.

Better be brave op. u have a bright future don't let the negative sayings and happening of people and things in your environment derail u of ur reading.
I would never be where I am today if I have listened to people or let my environment stop me from reading cos I have similar case in my environment.
Read when u are OK stop.
Headache is normal after u have pass ur reading threshold for a particular course difficulty and it can only get better by continuous reading.

Reading makes u run mad is a motto for the coward.
It can't make u run mad as long as u are not high on stimulants or ur brain is not sufficiently sleep deprived that it's naturally out of control.

If u have been to a university u won't probably pit this rubbish up here. In sec. School this was what Coward and lazy students use as an excuse for not reading for long.
Sorry that I am annoyed.

sir, this said friend of mine reads excessively, the only time he is not reading is when he is taking his bath or eating....don't you think he stress himself to the limit...

In as much as he slept sufficiently *he never* stressed himself to the limit.

He simply did not have the brain power for the stuff that he put in his brain and/or lacked the right family and peer support.

Damn!!! I 've heard this so many times, back then when I was 8; (while teaching her) my elder sis once told me of some man who ran mad because he ''read too much''.

Back then and up till date;
I find myself soliloquising,
calculating numbers without a calculator,
Writing my thoughts on every piece of paper,
and other things!

This is just too crazy, I'm just 17 but act and speak like an old man. Right now, I manage a very big shop with two entrances, very big with another shop. Guess What?? I know the items there and most of their part numbers!

Yes not just chemistry, biology blablah...
I read and studied histories, between 2015 (when I was 13) and 2017; I engaged my teachers in debates on the Biafra struggle and histories...

One said I've been brainwashed and was outta my mind simply because I was very good in 'dishing' out the actual dates when a particular event occurred!

So sad I didn't continue with my studies...

Studying cannot make someone to be insane but, the conditions that warrant long time to study and getting addicted to study can make one lose his or her mind.
Human being learn my reading, which is visual, by hearing, which is audio, by speaking, by vocal, by seeing, which is visual, by writing, that's by practice.
It's scientifically proven that written words stay in memory compared to printed words or texted words. That's the issue some people had with their regression in academic life. This is an issue because, most of the students in school don't take notes, in fact, lecturer had worsen the situation of not given students notes anymore. If a lecturer gives you notes, he or she is helping you and not harming you.
The factors that can cause getting mad because of books are :
1) too much thinking
2)reading environment or situation
Number one reason: if you want to retain what you ve read so far, you must think about the stuff, that is while researchers, programmers and especially scientists like Newton, Eisten, Faraday, Plato, think a lot. Secret behind all invention is either by find what everyone think is not or by mistake or by a need for the innovation. Blaise Pascal developed the Pascal programming language because his Dad was a man that collect money from people to save, his Dad do struggle in calculating everyone's money daily and he saw a need for a device, and worked on adding machine.
So, if you want to retain most of things you study, you must think about it. Imaging, before reading your post, I was thinking about what have read since the beginning of the semester and I used almost 2 hrs to think about it. Then too much of thinking can cause you to worry, sometimes I will want to sleep after my thinking, but will still find my self unable to sleep due to think, I would have been carried away with the thinking because it's part if me. Now, if one continue the way if life, one may have to isolate oneself in other to think very well. Most of the inventor lived isolated life, that's why scientist said that those that like to be in isolation will be intelligence.
Now, much isolation won't make you feel like a human, imagine you isolated your self for 10 hours reading everyday, soon now or later you will feel like not being with human being. Feeling of not mixing with fellow human is the start of madness.
So, too much of thinking gives lucidity because it's a training of mind to one particular area of life and if they are talking about another stuff in your locality, you will not be able to associate. You will feel like being with book every time.
Not only book can make someone mind to be in on a particular thing. Even music,beats,programming,e.t.c.
We won't run mad o.
