Thank you so much.
You're like the Italians, they use olive oil for everything. smiley
What's oregano like? I'm not familiar with it flavour
Are there substitutes to oregano?
Also, can basil be replaced with Nigerian scent leaves? cheesy or can one do without it?
You're welcome Dear... I just love the taste and smell of Olive Oil especially when one add garlic to it cheesy

Thyme can also replace Oregano. Thyme is a popular oregano substitute.

Basil and scent leaves belongs to the Mints family. So you can replace Basil with Scent leaves, but don't had much when using scent leaf because of the strong taste.

You can also do without it cheesy

Photo below. We just finish eating that. No presentation, straight from the oven. Their blood they hot this evening, I gat respect myself cheesy cheesy

With pizza, there are no strict rules right? Apart from the tomato base and cheese, any and everything goes right? Depending on what is available around you and your creativity

There's one variety I had from dominos, it's called suya pizza. SUPER DELICIOUS! tongue
The aroma worked so well together, I could still smell it for days cheesy

If you know what we call “curry leaves” it’s the same flavor as basil. Makes a closer substitute than scent leaf

No offense Prestonn.

Yea. The first time I tried basil I was like this is curry leaf. But it wasn’t. Just similar. I think they belong to the same family.

Scent leaf is nice too but it’s a bit strong in some dishes

I've always thought our effirin/nchanwu are Basil leaves. Scent leaves should be different but Google keeps saying they're same. Biko which is which?

Well I’ve used both so I know they are not the same.
You know the google people are oyinbo . Their ethnic knowledge is limited.

However, both are similar

Scent leaf is a general name we tagged nchanwu(igbo).

It is in the family of basil. Some people also address it as basil.

Again Nigerian curry leave is also called lemon basil.

To be sure, research on Ocimum gratissimum and Lemon Basil.

hello foodies,

quick question. what role does soy sauce and oyster sauce play when used for stir fry and sauces. I also noticed that most chefs on IG use same for fried rice.

then when used, is it a substitute for salt. ie. is there any need for salt or boullion cubes, ie. knorr when used because I feel a combination of the two is salt itself.

No be small oyinbo. Similar, yeah. Same, definitely not. Should be under the same family. I Just wasn't sure which was which as I always mix up the names. Thanks.

Some people like myself address it Basil. I already googled Ocimum gratissimum and you know these oyinbo people. They kept on referring to both as same. Thanks anyways.

Soy can be a substitute for salt. But If you don’t use too much of it, you can still add a pinch of salt and bullion . The two each taste differently. Too much soy and you won’t be able to taste anything else in the dish.
Oyster sauce isn’t a substitute for salt. Just needs a few drops. Like eye drops honestly. Otherwise your food will have a strong fishy smell or taste. The taste when it’s just a few drops is amazing though

in essence, both should be used sparingly in meals, yeah?

apparently only fried Irish potatoes work with ketchup, tried fried sweet potatoes like yours, the experience was awful, next time I bought it I had to cook up sauce, really love ketchup but asides roasting meat and French fries, it's useless.

Don't know what it's like with pizza though.

I need no soothsayer to confirm the authenticity of this very post.

Nice and inviting looks.

Now go straight to your sitting room, drop this food on the floor, sit on the floor and spread your legs round the food, use that spoon, create a middle space and spread the yam towards the edges of the plate, then slowly and roundly eat it with your fan/AC on.

You go feel alright.
