Fellow nairanders, how did you handle trust issues with a suspicious spouse? Pls share ur experiences. I am a married man presently in that situation. I love her and never doubted her until recently when she lied to me about an issue that I have facts which I confronted her with. Ever since, I started doubting her, though I sincerely want the trust restored. Pls how can I achieve that?

There was no trust in the first place.
Trust was never a prerequisite in any of my relationships.

If you are naive enough to “trust” ANYONE, you will definitely be dissaponted. You can NEVER rebuild trust that has been broken, since you were naive enough to trust in the first place. There is no such thing. Only for fantasists. The more you trust, the more you find reasons to mistrust.

I always expect the WORST from humans. We are all fallible. What you need is maturity, tolerance, forgiveness and understanding.

Not a realistic goal. We are all humans and prone to mistakes. Not being a pessimist. Just a realist.
Less drama and surprises. More time, energy and resources to focus on the most important things in life before you kill yourself for nothing .

I don’t even trust myself.

If your wife has lied to you about anything you need to check yourself first. Is she seeing you as someone who cannot handle truth? You should sit your woman down and assure her that you have forgiven her but she must give you her word that however the situation or matter may be, she must tell you as it is.

Trust issues if not immediately dealt with can cause a strain in the marriage and I'm quite sure you don't need that with someone you're spending the rest of your life with.

I laugh in present tense.

Whoever finds it difficult accommodating the truth gets lied to. If you are married, try once or twice to respond harshly to a bitter truth your spouse tells you. Believe me, you cannot get the truth ever again.

Why did your wife have to lie to you in the first instance? How do you normally handle the truth when you're told by your wife? Are you the type that usually blow out of proportion when faced with issues, instead of proffering solutions.
