Don't be confused by the grammar.

They all mean the same thing.

When you go to some institutions, they have a Faculty of Health Sciences. When you go to another, they either have a College or School of Health Sciences.

The National Open University in Nigeria for example has a School of Law. However, other universities like ABU, OAU, UNN and UNIBEN have Faculties of Law.

What exactly is the difference between these three terms?

IT DEPENDS ON THE UNIVERSITY

THE THREE TERMS ARE USED FOR DIVISION, DIRECTION FOR ADMINISTRATION, RESEARCH AND OTHER PURPOSES.

SPECIALISED INSTITUTIONS

College
Departments

UNSPECIALISED INSTITUTIONS (UNN, UI, ABU, UNILAG, UNIBEN)

Schools
Colleges
Faculties
Departments

Mass Communication has been moved to FACULTY from DEPARTMENT because it is too wide to be study as a course...

All are the same. the difference in nomenclature is due to the law that set them up.

federal uni of Agriculture uses "COLLEGE"
federal unit of Technology uses " SCHOOL"
conventional uni uses "FACULTY"

it was promulgated in the law that set them up.

School represent a section or unit in a college of education, college is a unit in a university of education or sub unit of university standing alone (i. e college of medicine or engineering under the auspices of the university concern) while faculty is a section or unit in a university. Thanks
Re: What Is The Difference Between School, Faculty And College? by supereagle(m): 2:08pm On Feb 01, 2020
College are made up faculties, like UI that operate collegiate system. College of medicine has faculty of Basic medical sciences, Faculty of Clinical Science and dentistry etc under it. The college is headed by a provost while the faculties are headed by the deans.
FUTO uses Schools instead of faculty, the schools are headed by Deans. Departments of related courses form Faculties or Schools.
Did I help you?

A college is made up of faculties eg. College of health sciences in oau ife has faculty of medecine physioterapy, dentistry etc. These all make up the college.

A faculty and school can be used interchangeable, its semantics, depending on the mood of the man who was choosing names at inception

School is a universal name for all academic institution.
while a college is a class or category of school where only one particular course is offered e.g. college of agriculture, college of medicine e.t.c
A faculty is a division mainly in the tertiary institution, to separate the course of study.
U can think of a school as the country Nigeria, a college as a state and a faculty as ur local government.

School is a place where you go to learn, faculty are the people who facilitate your learning note some don’t necessarily have to be in school and College is where you apply your learning if it sticks

School is a term used mostly by polytechnics to denote a group of interrelated disciplines or Dept. College is used mostly by universities to denote Professional disciplines that has ancient greeco-Roman roots such as medicine or for Postgraduate studies. Mostly headed by a distinct set of administrators (Provost) While faculty is generally used as to denote group of interrelated disciplines within a university. E.g faculty of social science, Physical science, etc. Headed by a dean. In general. They imply the same.
Good response

Well, I think the difference in usage is in the institution.

I think conventional institutions like University of Ibadan etc use the term Faculty while specialised institutions like University of Technology etc use School.

I stand to be corrected.
This is the comment I have been searching for. Simple, short and correct.

But the question now is: what exactly is the difference between Faculty of Engineering in UI and School of Engineering in FUTA?

I haven't seen any reasonable answer so far..
Let me add to his instances, fed poly Nekede uses schools e.g school of industrial and applied sciences. Uniport uses faculty eg faculty of pharmacy. Michael okpara university of agriculture uses colleges eg college of engineering and engineering technology.
What's actually the difference.

Well I can only go from my own experience in FUTA.

Institutions like FUTA ideally should have their curriculum geared towards more of practical experience and not just classroom learning like UI.

In fact, I think that was the sole purpose of the military government creating schools like FUTA, FUT Minna, FUT Yola and FUTO.

I guess that's why a course that usually takes 4 years in a conventional university takes 5 years in a University of technology like FUTA.

Only in Nigeria. That's is why Nigeria has become the laughing stock of the world. Elsewhere in the world, a graduate of Plymouth University is no match for his counterpart from Oxford or Cambridge. Someone without the requisite qualifications would never be the Governor of the Bank of England. You need no connections today to secure that teaching or accountancy job in Toronto, Manchester, Boston, etc. You wonder why the developed world is what it is today? It's not about who you know but what you can bring to the table - no matter who your parents are or where you come from. Nigerians are professors in UK, US, Canadian, Australian universities; they work as accountants, barristers, surgeons, etc., globally. Yes, the degree they hold, where they graduated from and what subjects they studied, the grades obtained, and of course the skills they possess, are all matter, not who they know. Until Nigeria and Nigerians at home do things the right way, all will not be well with this nation.
