Why is VIO coming for uber n bolt drivers?

Is it true once u are caught, ur car is gone even if you make payment?

Should we start looking for another side hustle?

What will happen to our HP agreement with our partners? I understand pp on rental can just return car and it u own ur car no problem for u.

whatever uber says, as long as the government is concern, uber is a Taxi company and must have license to operate

What all these tech companies do not understand is that even if they put app on everything, you are just innovating, it doesnt make your business another thing

just because you use an app for delivery does not mean your company is no more a delivery company
just because you use an app for ordering okada, does not mean it is not an okada business
just because you put an app a bus transport business does not mean it is no more a bus transport business

you buy air tickets and order online for tickets to fly from one place to another does that mean the air transport business is now another business, it is still a air transport business, you just used technology to make life better for people.

God is good company uses apps so that passengers can book before time, does that mean god is no more a transport business

The more tech companies try to deceive Government and try to sell business model that looks suspicious to avoid paying for license or tax, the more government hit hard on them and this will affect the users of these apps.

The govt clamp down on Okada in lagos was because taxi apps and okada were taking money away from the Taxis union, whose members are going broke, the taxis union is powerful, they bring vote to the government, dont think the govt wont protect them.

In fashola words.

My recommendation is that we should go back to the taxis and they have a very strong union. I’m sure government is already thinking about it, and it can use its financial balance sheets to guarantee them loans to acquire new taxis.

For all those saying Uber or Bolt isnt a taxi company

this is what european regulators says

Europe Says Uber Is Officially a Taxi Service

https://www.citylab.com/transportation/2017/12/uber-european-court-of-justice-transportation-taxi-ruling/548873/

Good luck on your future, bolt and uber drivers, it is not your fault, the fault is from all these tech companies with their shady head not to do business the right way.

Government will be the winner in everything and they win big, tech companies are in the mercy of government

No matter what every you do, Union is everything, it is the protector of the common man against exploiters like the tech companies

What's all this fuss self about Uber/Bolt drivers cashing out as a result of the ban on keke and okada ?

Sweetheart, I'm still grossing just about the same range of between 8k to 11k in a day, that's about the same range I used to make before the ban. I work from 2pm to 12 am apart from weekends. Most times self I don't even get request until between 4pm and 5pm before the biz go set.
Well, maybe na people wey dey work full day dey cash out. The traffic self this days na die.
Even police men for check points at night now dey tell me say... Guy settle us, after all government don ban keke and okada, na una uber drivers dey make all the money now.
Talking about Police men... had one funny experience with one yesternite along that domino's pizza, Adekunle axis.

So I was on a trip to lekki, lost in my thought.
The next thing I don beat traffic light, next thing, two police on bike for my front dey flag me down to pack.
I pulled over, one of them enter my car we begin the normal negotiation. After going back and forth, oga police agreed to take 1k. the police man inside my car wants to play a fast one on the other one on bike, oga police say okay make I sharperly use my hand put the 1k inside his pocket so that the one on bike no go see say I give am money.
At that time na only 1k 200 naira dey with me, me wey know how I dey take arrange my money, I quickly put hand for where the 200 naira dey and quickly slide the 200 naira into the police man pocket.
Immediately oga police commot for my car, na so I fire my car face thirdmainlandbrigde. I sure say e go take am sometime before he go realize wetin happen. THEIR FADA!

Is there a law that says you cant drive a car that is not registered in your name.....
Have you been asked for hackney permit or whatever it is called...??...
I have been stopped couple of times and have never heard that before..non of my drivers have ever been asked that before. .no one that I know in this line of work has been asked before...only on nairaland by the same monikers.....
Many people visit this thread....stop selling them ideas to extort you....As far as government is concerned, you are working for a private company...if they have anything to say...they say that to the companies....
Uber is licensed to run in the state.....Uber will be the first to know if you needed any kind of permits...
Very soon we will start hearing lastma says your car must be painted in yellow.....
Even if some one had the idea...you should always know your right and stand by it....
How many drivers on this thread have been charged for not having the permit........If you had, show proof....if not....go and sleep....
No wonder riders treat some of them anyhow......shm....

Na WA o, see extract from the link. They just want another Primero to monopolize e-hail services if Uber and Bolt decides to bolt

Anofiu Elegushi, Special Adviser to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, said Uber drivers were required to pay N100,000 per car for a franchise license, and an annual renewal fee of N30,000 per car.

He said the company owed the state government about N600 million for not properly registering its business.

“We have started clamping down on the vehicles that operate under the Uber app without registration,” Mr. Elegushi had told CNNMoney last September.

The Lagos State House of Assembly in 2015 passed the Road Traffic Regulations on Taxi Operations in Lagos State to regulate commercial transportation in the state. The regulations stipulate that in addition to meeting the provisions of Section 40 of the Road Traffic Law, all taxi operators must register their details with the Ministry of Transportation and be issued with a licence. Drivers must also have a third party insurance; hackney permit; and a vehicle not older than 12 years at the time of registration.

Calm down first...

If you get the hackney permit now, what of the operator license?

Just wait a little bit and watch it out first. Tell your riders to sit in the front and not at the back unless there is someone in the front. Don't hang your phone on a conspicuous place. Before the trip, give your rider orientation to act as a friend if you get stopped by VIO. Don't pick riders in places that are suspicious.
Just wait a little bit...

The thing is not whether Uber doesn't have operating license or not, if government determines that their is a certain fee they aren't paying why not sort it out with them?
Why will drivers be the ones to bear the brunt?
As for those encouraging one another to go get hackney and lasdiri what about the operator licence?
According to the infor Uber didn't pay so they will collect it from the drivers?
How many drivers can even afford the 100k operation license fee and 30k annual renewal fee?
Rushing to pay for the permit to me isn't in any way the best approach, maybe after that they demand change your plate number to commercial or paint your car too.

lol...some of these guys are comedians.....
If they like let them go and register with MC....My only concern is the effect it will have on other drivers....Reason why you hear and see some rude and mannerless riders is the low self esteem of some drivers who turned themselves to m.orons all in the name of offline connects...
You work with Uber right......Why not wait to hear from Uber or atleast be told by the government.....why getting unsettled because of hearsays....giving ideas to some rogues to extort drivers....
Uber should and ought to, if they haven't already paid for all licenses and permits.....What is the 25 percent cuts for.......Dont uber have offices.......why is government not charging them to court... If there is an issue it will be formally communicated....even top government officials use uber....
How would government even enforce that individually...?...

The problem i see here is that Uber drivers are not being proactive

Why are you guys not gathered at Lekki or Maryland to demand explanations from Uber and Bolt? Everybody just sit down on top him chair dey wait for the first VIO scapegoat

Uber has always had issues with local cab businesses. They have been banned in some countries, and they have issues in some states in the USA. Or you guys expect those old, tribal marked men to go and farm in their villages?

Uber and Bolt are keeping quiet because you all are keeping quiet.

If i were you guys, i'll enquire from the VIO, and march to Uber to solve the requirement issues. If Uber no gree, make una off app.

When dem go, another Nigerian go build him own, una go join and hustle continues

Make una use una strength for once

Uber covers both bolt, uber and their likes, the issue is that these apps know from start what they are doing but do not want to play the game, they entered an unregulated market thinking govt will give them special treatment all because of innovation, when govt saw their tricks, govt decided to regulate the market, no matter what uber calls itself, it is a taxi business and taxi business will need the red plate and all other necessary license.

Uber drivers need to be future thinkers, either they join the govt own taxi and union or find any trade, uber and its likes won't pay for your licenses and permits, that will be a requirement to join uber and others now as govt regulate the market.

Uber and its likes will get their operating licenses, all other cost will be pushed to drivers and consumer, expect an increase in uber and others fare.

Companies care about profit, every other issue consumers must pay for the policies of govt

Govt increased vat, companies transfer cost to consumers.consumers are pained, companies smile to the bank, use your money to pay vat and still has profit.

Uber drivers should prepare for the storm, more requirement will be needed to join uber, some drivers will leave especially those on HP while those who are determined will stay.

Note:it is important to know that their is a difference BTW operating license for uber as a company and license and permit for you to driver a car for commercial purposes.

Uber will get their own permit while drivers will have to get their own permit and licenses to join uber, note that uber won't pay for your own licences, that is between you and the body regulating the business, once you have gotten those permit, you can now sign up for uber.

Uber and its likes will soon become members of the taxi union in Lagos(NURTW) just watch and see as things unfold.
