I travelled to imo state where I stayed at any hotel, I asked the receptionist to get a girl for me to spend the night, during the night we engaged in sex and used condom throughout after sex I discovered that I had a small boil that has burst on my abdomen.

My issue is that vagina fluid came in contact with my boil that has burst on my abdomen, is there any risk of having hiv, I am presently taking truvada but the side effects are much, note that the condom did not burst, am I at risk or just unnecessary worried
Go to China, you go even enjoy d tin pass dat of Imo.

Take PEP for 28 days. No one has gotten HIV after correct use of PEP which must be started within 24hrs but if your lucky it could still work within 72hrs

This is serious misinformation. A big problem that some people may actually read you and believe this and start acting on its premise

This is false. While PEP has shown to dramatically reduce the risk of HIV transmission by stopping the progression of the virons from the dendritic cells to the lymph nodes where the infection would become permanent, there has been several cases of PEP failures even when the medication was properly taken and no further exposure made

Infact the success of PEP has been estimated at just 87% while some studies even estimated less

For the OP I am surprised someone actually prescribed PEP for this exposure which is not PEP INDICATED. There is virtually no risk for this exposure and as such PEP is certainly NOT warranted. The only positive for you here is that the Travuda would serve as PreP for you

Even if PEP is warranted, Travuda alone is NOT the best medication to be used. For the seriousness of this topic I would break protocol and state the best line of defense used as PEP. I know some would still not go to a professional when they have an exposure but patronize pharmacists who continue to dish out travuda, ensure that when you do visit the pharmacist, demand for these meds combo. Its the best combination therapy and failure is rare

Tenofovir disoproxil, 300 mg/emtricitabine, 200 mg (Truvada) once daily (This comes as a single tablet)

plus

Raltegravir (Isentress), 400 mg twice daily or dolutegravir (Tivicay), 50 mg once daily. Dolutegravir is new and highly effective but relatively scarce. In its absence go for Isentress

These must be taken for 28days

You must follow these guidelines before demanding for PEP

(1) The risk must be significant enough to be PEP indicated or warranted

(2) You must see a health care professional and not self medicate

(3) If PEP is warranted, you must do a HIV baseline test to confirm you are HIV negative at the time of embarking on PEP

(4) The exposure must have occured less than 72hrs ago

If PEP is warranted and you do start it, adherence is key to ensuring its success. Do not skip any dosage. Studies have shown that the new combo as stated above are highly effective for almost all significant risks. Travuda alone cannot stop virons progressions and has been shown to at best preserve your immune systems when you do seroconvert but won't stop the seroconvertion itself

Thank you for reading

The risk of HIV is not dependent on whether you come in contact with a vaginal fluid. It depends on so many other factors:

1. Is your partner infected?

2. Was HIV present in large quantity in the fluid that you came in contact with?

3. How long after the condom was exposed to air did it come in contact with the burst boil?

HIV does not remain active for long outside the body. Once exposed to air or water for a short while, HIV becomes inactive and incapable of infecting.

So, the secret is in the quantity of HIV in the fluid, not the fluid itself. A fluid with a negligible quantity of HIV cannot infect you. That is why you cannot get HIV from kissing. Because even though HIV might be present in saliva, it is in negligible quantity, and so cannot cause an infection.

HIV can become inactive (regarded as dead) when exposed to the element, especially water. When exposed to air, many of the viruses may die, and the remaining quantity would be unable to infect. And the rule is that the higher the quantity of HIV in fluid, the longer it would take to reduce their quantity to a negligible quantity.

So, supposing your partner is HIV positive and has been taking her medications diligently, it is very possible that the HIV in her fluid would be negligible, in which case they would be unable to infect you.

But supposing she is HIV possible and has never had medications, it would still depend on the quantity of HIV in the fluid that came in contact with your burst boil. If the quantity is high, your risk of contracting HIV is also very high.

All in all, the only way to be sure is to see a doctor.

HIV is still largely mysterious, and there are still many myths passed around as facts even by medical practitioners.

Okay but what about this- I had an open sore (harmattan or fever blisters). I kissed a girl but she didn't have the sore and I didn't see or taste blood. Am I also at risk?

so I can not just go for a test and save urself and us from all this wahala.

Sorry it doesn't work that way. When one comes into contact with HIV, or contracts HIV for that matter, he or she is actually highly infectious to others from that point on. The problem is that while he is infectious, he won't be able to immediately know that he has contracted HIV because most of the tests we have detect our body's natural defense system reactions to those invading HIV antigens. When our defense systems notice the HIV invading the body they mobilize to attack them and produce in that process what we have antibodies. It is those antibodies that the tests look for to confirm if you have HIV or not

Significantly it takes an average of 2 weeks to 3 months for most people to produce enough antibodies for the tests to detect them even though they have the HIV all those while and are actually highly infectious even before the tests can detect they have HIV

This gap period, called the window period, is very concerning for scientist as it represents the single major hurdle and barrier for effective HIV management where most people tests negative when they are infact HIV positive

There are more complex tests which looks for the HIV directly but they are too expensive to be commercially viable. So for now when you contract HIV you have to wait out this window period before you are sure you did not contract it

There is no risk here at all. Even if she does have sores and you also have sores, the risk remains very low

Like he said, risk is strongly dependent on the volume of inoculation. This is why we say that it is safer to have unprotected sex with someone on HIV medication than with someone that is claiming to be HIV negative

The one on HIV meds would likely be undetectable and since we now know that undetectable is equal to untransmittable, due to the low volume of inoculation, your positive HIV sex partner would be unable to pass on the virus to you even without protection but those claiming to be HIV negative may actually be positive in a window period and infect you

They call condom protection.

You have forgotten that a bleeding gum could also transmit the virus, that's if you both have it.

A guy sucked a lady pussy during the period of harmattan. As we all know, harmattan usually create a sore in the lips, he was busy sucking.

He gat lucky the girl was negative, if not, story would change.

I still don't understand the spirit behind the urge to sleeping with a prostitute.

This is how I take prostitutes / private ashewo: they are like those public toilet that is very dirty, with different colour of rust in the water closet, walls and tiles with unpleasant odour.

Now back to the post, you are at a risk that's if the boil is opened.

Indeed it is. Infact using a 4th generation tests, I have never seen a negative result at 30 days change. At 90 days the result is 99.99% conclusive

Okay thank you. I appreciate. I was just concerned cos the sore was open and I think saliva touched it. And I've been having symptoms that look like hiv symptoms eg fever and vibrations abi spasms in different parts of my body. Tomorrow makes it six weeks. Thanks tho

Check your BP. A lot of people become scared when such incidence happen and the panic manifests in symptoms they assume is HIV symptoms. At 6 weeks you can go for a HIV test and get conclusive result

No.

If there is HIV in her saliva, the concentration would be too low to pose a threat to you.

There's what we call Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP). It's a treatment given to suspected cases of exposure to HIV within 72 hours(as in your case). I think you should take this medication immediately from a nearby hospital since you are not sure of the other's HIV status.
Meanwhile, don't expect us to convince your immune safety bro.
