This one is small...
Come to Lagos, especially Agege and IyanaIpaja Environs. Nigeria should have gone beyond this gutter pattern, underground gutter will definitely save us this stress and nonsense..

And you packed the sand on the main road? What happened to sense and decency??

An appropriate caption for this would have been, "Ss the amount of sand packed on the main road in Akwa Ibom". Much as gutters should be de-silted, the sand is better in the gutter than in on the main road.

It's not as if they put it on the road forever bro. They have to pack it somewhere before taking it to intended destination... You should be able to know that.

cos they will not remove it. It is same problem all over Nigeria l. They will remove sand from Gutter and leave it while sand goes back into the gutter. After they will call to remove same sand again. The circle continues.

And u think only Nigerian leaders are clueless and daft?

Desilting the drainage is an exercise that should be carried out regularly to allow free flow of water and to avoid flooding

It is certain that the sand will still get back into the drainage... The individual and government agency should make it as a duty by clearing the drainage every quarterly of the year...

This is a dangerous prayer because more than 50% of the sand will find its way back to the drainage

Re: The Amount Of Sand Removed From Gutter In Akwa Ibom by Reference(m): 8:52am On Feb 15, 2020
Just look to your right and see the reason why. Loose earth. I call it the PPP syndrome, Public Private Partition after what I observed in Calabar many years ago during the days of Donald Duke. Magnificent roads, drains and streets lights everywhere but just a few feet away are shanties, mud brick buildings and every badge of poverty imaginable.

My conclusion was that matters of the environment were as much about poverty as they were about regulation. Matters of the environment are joint responsibilities between the goverment and the people. No matter how rich a goverment is, how much access it has to resources including the loans it can take to build nifty roads and bridges, if these services are meant to serve the wretched of the earth, the system is not bound to produce the expected results.

The gutters like most in Nigeria are blocked simply because the folks living there cannot afford to keep them unblocked and clean. No goverment in the world will pave a highway to a man's 'bedroom'. It is the responsibility of inhabitants of that area to ensure that their plots are either grassed or paved to ensure sand or dirt does not wash into these drains. Even the modern ones in Abuja that come with sand traps cannot cope with the level of erosion that comes with bare earthed surroundings. And no amount of legislation can compel a man to pave his yard or grass it if he simply cannot afford it.

In Europe or America there are standards for property owners to comply with but here.... what do you do. Even the great Donakd Duke had a huge battle when he lauched the annual carnival event and part of the requirements was for residents especially those on the carnival routes to have their fences 'made up', painted and decorated. He was called all sorts of names.... poverty speaking.
