Guys Before You Ask Her To Marry You - READ THIS! by franchasng(op):
If you are a single guy (living in Nigeria especially) reading this thread, please be patient and read carefully so you don't box your life into a regrettable situation.

Those living abroad maybe pushing you to go and get married, as someone who has experienced both sides, I can boldly tell you that being married abroad as a man is cheaper than being married in Nigeria! Some of the reasons are outlined below:

As a man, being married in Nigeria is not cheap because you are expected to foot all the family bills or at least 90% of the family bills; from providing for adequate housing/accommodation for you, your wife, and kids to feeding, to school fees, to clothing, utility bills and even assisting your in-laws in one way or the other. It is not the same abroad because your wife will contribute not because she wants but because its the norm, and she can't be idle and unemployed when there are jobs readily available for her to do and earn money. Most couple abroad split their family bills 50 - 50, some couple split it according to each partner's income, it is not same in Nigeria because whether your wife is as rich as Mrs Alakija, and you are managing life like 2face Idibia, you are expected to take care of majority of the family's bills to maintain your position as the head of the family, if not, OYO is your name grin

Being married abroad is cheaper than being married in Nigeria as a man. In US for instance, at the end of the year, you get tax return which will take care of huge portion of your family bills; most families use their tax return to buy a new car at the start of the year, that is why cars are costly to buy in February in the US.

In UK, government offer free quality healthcare and free quality education, these two reliefs alone has made your marriage and raising kids very easy as a married man in UK. The only issue here is tax, but its better there because you will see where your tax is being used unlike in Nigeria where you pay tax and Buhari and his corrupt Governors uses it to buy bullet proof cars and sponsor their uncountable local and foreign concubines on luxury trips around the world lipsrsealed undecided

Is there free quality education and healthcare in Nigeriahuh NO! You may end up spending your entire savings if your wife delivers through operation or your wife has a stillbirth, or delivers prematurely and requires that your newborn baby be put in an incubator for months, your hospital bill may send you to social media platforms to turn to an overnight beggar angry angry

Feeding your family abroad is cheap unlike in Nigeria. Don't let anybody lie to you, in all western, Asian, European countries, food is the cheapest thing anybody can afford, so whether you are employed or unemployed abroad (which is not possible unless you are intentionally lazy), you can still eat and feed your entire family with quality, healthy food without stress because food is highly affordable, all thanks to their mechanized agriculture and farming, GMO foods abound too, you just need to be careful though.

But in Nigeria, hunger can kill you and your children if you don't have good source of income. Food is not affordable in Nigeria, despite the fact that most Nigerian meals are carbohydrates, it is still very expensive. Most people can't even afford meat or fish in Nigeria, think about all these before you ask that lady to marry you, are you truly prepared or you want to marry with faithhuh Remember, all the poor, suffering married people you see everyday on Nigerian streets also married with faith that after marriage, marriage will bring luck to them and they will become Aliko Dangote, but look at them today still hoping and waiting for that luck that marriage brings cry cry

Don't marry if you are not financially prepared!

Don't marry an idle lady if you are a guy that's not very highly comfortable financially. Being financially comfortable is not about having a job that pays you 200k - 300k monthly, but how many investments do you have that can provide you steady income even if you fall sick for 12 months stretchhuh

Don't marry an unemployed lady in 2020 and beyond, unless you want to die early as a man struggling to satisfy an insatiable woman.

Don't wait till you marry her, encourage your girlfriend or fiancé to get a Job or start a business or learn/start a good handwork while dating before you marry her. If it means helping her raise startup capital or helping her secure a job or learn a trade, do it before you guys get married, don't wait after marriage. Don't marry financially unproductive lady today, it is too risky. Global economy is no longer smiling like before. If Americans, Europeans, etc with thriving economies don't marry financially unproductive ladies as wife, why should a Nigerian living in Nigeria marry onehuh!!

This message is for guys. Don't let anybody push you to marry unprepared because it's not as easy as they always preach or would you like to watch your wife and kids live broke life

The best and easier way to avoid all these is not to marry a Nigerian girl.
Thank you, OP.

1.) Marry only when you are financially prepared! Don't listen to your girlfriend or fiancé or anybody telling you that you guys don't need much money to marry, in fact, you need to be a billionaire (sic) before u can marry and have peace of mind today lol

If your girlfriend or fiance wants you to marry her when u are not financially convinced that you are okay, make sure she has her own enough money and ready to give you like 5million to keep aside for family investment, if not don't marry, marriage now requires lots of money to sustain in this our time. Don't compare today with the time of your parents or grandparents, those days didn't require much money to live a good life like today. We are now living in a capitalist world.

Having a job is not enough financial security to jump into marriage like you have arrived, have a backup financial plan aside your job if not don't marry, it is not by force to marry or to born. Anybody forcing you to marry when you are not financially ready should and must give you enough financial support to back it up. Don't born pls the world is overpopulated already, it is not a crime if you didn't born, don't be fooled former UK Prime Minister Theresa May and her husband didn't have any child. Aliko Dangote did not marry but he is a billionaire, so it is not a crime if you didn't marry or give birth....just make financial investments that will take care of your needs at old age.

Don't spend more than 0.1% of your total savings on wedding. If your wife to be want a state of the nation wedding, let her bring the money or don't marry her. Big wedding does not make you a rich guy. Did you hear about Billionaire Mark Zuckerberg's weddinghuh Spend wisely on wedding, invest more than you spend on wedding ceremonies.

Don't force any lady to marry you, there are millions of better ladies with better character, better shape, finer face, better family background and everything to replace her, all you need to do is open your eyes, broaden your search for better ladies using both your relatives, friends and Internet but make sure you are financially okay yourself or else it won't work.

As a single guy, don't marry for love alone, consider other factors like what she herself does for a living, her family background, her career path, her spiritual stand and many more, don't be fooled, ladies consider all these things before they agree to marry any guy, guys stop marrying because your dick got erection or for love or for fine face, no lady will marry you just because you are a handsome guy with big dick, they consider plenty other factors and even go spiritual to find out more about you and your future, so marry like ladies do.

2.) Expect anything from your girlfriend, fiancé or wife! In as much as you should trust your partner, please don't trust too much with all your heart today, always have room for doubt so that nothing will shake you when it happens. Remember, we are in the era of internet and social media where it has become very easy for anybody to make new friends from even across the border just by a click.

Always have in mind that your girlfriend or fiancé or wife maybe cheating or could cheat even if she is very faithful now, so that when it happens, you won't be surprised much, and if she doesn't cheat, good and fine

3.) As a man, until you have built 2 different rented-apartment properties (houses with blocks of flats) of your own in a viable city not in your village or in one dead town, you are still struggling! Don't think you are financially okay because you are not okay. Having a luxury car, good job and well furnished rented apartment does not make you a rich or financially free man.

4.) If you are a guy in Nigeria, please don't rely on your job and be feeling arrived even if it's Chevron oil job, start now to build a backup investment plan!....It could be well researched and established viable business. You can invest in foreign shares, it's doable, I did it even when I was struggling in Nigeria...there are legitimate organisations that help you buy shares on NYSE, and other stable foreign stock markets not unpredictable unstable Nigerian stock market that destroyed many souls around 2005/2006.

Making money and more money legally should be your daily devotion after your normal prayer and worship because our world today is a capital market, no money no activity.

Raising your kids as a man will never be an issue for you if you are doing well financially, so every man's major problem in life is good health and money, not women!

Use your time and energy and skill judiciously. Above all, don't neglect the supernatural powers, always pray....we all are sinners, but your attitude towards sin is what differentiates you from others. Don't be prideful in sin.....don't be arrogant in sin!!

Peace cool

Lol, Nigerian ladies remain one of the best women to marry oh, let's be honest to ourselves....my brother, not many Nigerian men can cope with a white woman as wife....because I know not many Nigerian men doing well financially on their own can trade their ego for equality shocked shocked grin grin

100% correct.

The future is bleak with a Nigerian young woman of today. The type that spends more than 2-3rd of her salary to buy brazillian haira for her head and pubic region ro impress people that don't care. The future is bleak.

Well-done @franchasng for this wonderful piece. This is what every single (male and female) needs at this point in time not some nonsense emphasis on single ladies. Marriage only worth it when there's happiness and finance is one the things that brings the happiness.

But the truth is they won't hear.I just read on this platform, people's views on ladies that has ride and I was highly disappointed. 90% were against it.They would rather chose the one they will provide 100% of her needs and after marriage, we will start reading their financial woes on NL.

Well-done once again.

U forget to tell us, this is the steps ur dad follow before he married ur mom
hahahahahahahahahaha cheesy cheesy

My dad married few months before the Nigerian civil war broke out, so their time is far different from what's obtainable today.

At the time my father married, there was no need to have a TV set or a refridgerator or a gas cooker or a DSTV or GoTV or a mobile phone or generator set or a freezer or home theatre sound system, etc before you marry as a man shocked

All you needed was to be a mature man with beard and maybe able to farm or do any menial job to feed your family, and you are good to go. You didn't even need to have an apartment as your father's thatched house or a hut can suffice lol grin Can you say the same for todayhuh

Despite the above factors, my mother was a trained telecom operator working with NITEL. She later left the job at my father's request when they started having kids, to start her own business. She also told me, her parents gave her a sewing machine as a gift, which she also used to sew clothes on part time for people living in my father's company staff quarters then. My mom from the time I knew her was never an idle or unemployed woman, in fact, she worked harder than my father self because my father only go to work and come back, but my mother jostles from her work to business to sewing to catering for us. There was no single business you can think of back then that my mom didn't do at one point or another.

So you seehuh grin

This post is highly underrated. Though I have a problem, all the ladies I am seeing are unemployed. One particularly is so beautiful, she's just rounding up final year and as usual with Nigerian girls, she's reading one of those useless courses but she fine die. I keep thinking if I should date her but I think I will leave her cos unemployed ladies are not advisable.

So you seehuh grin
yeah, i believe there re more opportunity now than then. just like ur mom work hard to support ur dad and at the end they made it together. dont u think similar thing could happen with an average couple?

All these still suffix today especially in northern. Nigeria and some rural areas in Nigeria.

Life is about priority and depends on what you want.

I agree with you on financial stability but not everyone need to wait to be a multimillionaire or a Dangote before getting married. The most important his sustainable means of livelihood and the man living within his means rather than living by societal standard.

Being hardworking and productive for women has always been a norm right from the days of old so as to support/assist the principal provider - Husband! (Read the book od Proverbs 10: 1-10)

However, the idea of having a woman earn so as to split family bills 50-50 is utter rubbish! Although this is what is obtainable in the West, it still remain an aberration. It can never and will never make it norm. The man in the house is the principal provider and is expected to care for the family. The woman working/doing business or being productive is to assist in the home.

In turn, it is the woman's primary responsibility to take care of and nurture the home (domestic duties) while the man goes out to work. But the husband is also expected to assist her not to share or split with her. This is what was bequeathed man by God and nature.

Unfortunately, the Oyibos adopted different ideology and has turned everything upside down! This is the reason there is almost total collapse of family structure in the West. The men are not men in their homes while the women are burdened with hustling because they are expected to split bills. Fortunately, the system allows them to take advantage of systematic loophole once they get pregnant or at divorce.

Permit me to add that as long as a man lives, he is expected to work and care for his household. A wise man would use available resources within his reach to create sustainable revenue streams that will not only serve his family but will outlive him, while training his kids to prepare for adulthood.

Young men need to have commence building family at their youthful age (25-35) but should ensure that they have sustainable means of livelihood before then. For those in paid employment, they need to have savings and have or work towards having sustainable investment.

May I also add that not everyone will be millionaire in their younger age (18-35) but everyone have what it takes to have sustainable livelihood as long as they live... Those who can't be millionaires in their younger adult years should go ahead and marry provided that they have sustainable income and means of livelihood- while working on improving themselves.

Finally, although money is good, it is not everything. It may answer all questions but can never satisfy all thirst and hunger.
