It is not easy anywhere in the world. Here in a new country. You are just starting all over again. And on your own is the slang.

My regret was not leaving Nigeria early.. I wasted my life in Nigeria without knowing that there are enough opportunities abroad.. Properties I could not acquire while I was in Nigeria I acquired them now... I'm still wondering if Nigerian leaders travel abroad and see how developed abroad is.. Good leaving over here..

most nairalanders and “commenters” are average guys. Many have not seen beyond a hundred million, a reason for this mentality.

You are part of the unrepentant brainwashed illiterates masses of this unfortunate nation. Must everything be about "Money, Money, Money all the time. Would everyone be a Trillionaire, Billionaire, Millionaire. How about quality life and peace of mind and just few bucks In your account coupled with sane environment. As for you I know you are just an ordinary pauper and puppet. I know your types. Imagine this Nkmpi Is talking about Average people. Village mumu puppet feeling Cool with himself. Even those billionaires, When they see your comments, they would laugh at your foolishness.

HOW MUCH DO YOU MAKE EVERY 2 YEARS? How many Nigerians make a quarter of 50M per annum? how companies even make that much?
The point here is not about being rich, not everyone is going die rich. In a sane society you dont have to be rich t enjoy the following

* Security
*Quality healthcare
*Good social amenities
*Affordable clothing and Nutritious food
*Quality education
*Human rights
The list is endless. . . I think the point is about the quality of life and living in a society where your dreams stand a chance of coming through

His types were brought up In "ABJECT POVERTY" So they would never understand what a SANE SOCIETY looks like and how It works. His types are the ones at the Corridors of power in Nigeria, Federal agencies, Dominates private sectors et all. They pack as much money as they can. Their lives revolves around Money, Money, Money with no quality life and peace of mind. As long as their own families are okay and there Is a lot of starched billions In the bank. The rest can go to Hell. I hope you see how the nation got to where It Is today.

Why stay in a country where merit has been thrown to the gutter. Where youths are now(yahoo boys and prostitutes), and these are the future of tomorrow.
Tell me, what would a yahoo boy/prostitute do when he/she gets to power? It's going to be worse than what we have now.
No stable electricity, no good roads, no jobs, no enough institutions, no hospitals, and you say any sane person should stay here. Really?
If you don't want to do it for yourself, please do for your future offsprings. They deserve better.
Nigeria has never gotten better since I was born, keeps getting worse day by day, and you want people to stay here. The only people that would stay here are those that love living in an environment where they would be worshipped by the poor masses because that's what massages their deflated ego.
No amount of money will make me live in a society like Nigeria, where every single person wants to dupe you, insecurity, tribal conflicts. An average Nigerian is a thief and a fraud.
This country kills talent as you only get a chance based on who you know and not what you know.
Kante, Pogba, Mbappe, Thierry Henry, Zidane etc, if they grew up in an African society, the probability of all of them attaining what they attained today is fucking slim.
Why should I born my innocent kids to face this discrimination?

Infact I'm Impressed with this comment of yours, You just described someone up there and the exact situation of things on ground in this nation. See him mentioning Audio One Million dollars.

they have monies in asset. It is easy to purchase asset in Nigeria. In many developed countries, you can’t just get an asset. Building a house is one of the simplest thing to start in Nigeria. You see why I mentioned standard of life is relative. That said. There are many guys doing well in Nigeria. Well may be I am just surrounded by many....

Is anybody still wondering why the masses and majority will keep on swimming In POVERTY......See Mentality!!! When everyone wants to have Billions and buy assets In his/her own Name.

Who told you it is "easy" to but assets in Nigeria?

Oh lawd

And using credit to buy a home is not a sign of difficulty for get asset.

And for your last statement
That is my case as well, my immediate environment is of those "doing well"
But the larger society is poverty stricken.

Where i live is considered upscale here in Lagos

But the path leading to this place

You see the hunger and frustration on full blast.
They are Nigerians just like me

I wish I could have a one on one conversation with you sir. You are a realist and you deserve so much accolades. It's very easy to decipher between people with good moral and upbringing, people who has conscience but not perfect, people of high taste just to mention few, people of equity and our Agbero money miss road friend up there. That's If even he Is what he describe himself to be which I hold like a pinch of salt.

How was D.C? I was in Boston before coming back home. I would get to Dulles first before Logan airport.

My greatest regret is the freedom I have back in Nigeria, here is not like that, too much rules and regulations.

That's why those countries work. They are rule based societies and rules exist for a reason. wink

Most especially I miss the general freedom that every day to day life in Nigeria offers. If you’ve never left the country before you won’t understand. There’s more freedom sort of in Nigeria vs obodo oyibo where there are damn too many laws that, in many ways, you are restricted in what you could freely do. They often say that very soon the government would release laws on how human beings should sleep in their own bedroom. It’s that crazy. I also miss the sense of community in Nigeria vs the extremely high level of ‘minding your business’ that exists abroad that people rarely interact with each other. It’s somewhat better or similar to Nigeria in southern US vs Northern US here but overall it is lower here in the US vs Nigeria.

Lastly I used to miss our food, culture etc but with the plethora of Nigerians here in the US, in recent years plenty African stores have popped up here and there selling nearly every single item you could buy in a Nigerian market and with Nigerian events such as parties, weddings taking place regularly, I no longer miss this aspect.

My 2 cents.

^^^
Fair points.

But those damn laws exist for a reason. They exist (and are enforced) because your private actions have social costs. In rules based societies you will pay a significant price when your private actions have high social costs. In Nigeria unfortunately, that is not the case. In general, I do not pay any price in Nigeria when my private actions have high social costs. And that, sir/madam is why those rules-based societies are what they are - and Nigeria is what it is. grin

That in a nutshell, explains the 'apparent' lack of freedom in these rules based societies. But these societies have mastered the concept and enforcement of a simple rule: My right or freedom to throw a punch ends where someone else's face begins.

you are saying this because you don’t have money simple. How much is 30 million? Will you tell Dangote about peace. Dangote too much self. I have worked for billionaires and even guys that don’t have billions self. They are living life. Will you tell Davido that Nigeria is shit hole. Dude is making his money. Same with million others. Again, Na person wey no get money dey rant about naija. If you get money you go no say naija Na people and people Na naija. Same with other nations. It’s all people. Find you niche bro and don’t have any regrets about some set of people!
You forget that most of these elites had a rosy start to life.
What are the chances of a regular middle or low class born attaining these heights in this present Nigeria?
It's slimmer!
That's not to say wealth can't be made in Nigeria though.

There are definitely less certainties in Nigeria, else how can you explain most people who migrated abroad legally having the funds in a few years to build quite substantial houses and business in Nigeria?

It's definitely harder to succeed in a country that doesn't encourage meritocracy.

mindset is all that matters. Thing is many of the middle and lower class are always looking for low hanging fruits. They are the ones who are always looking for the sharp way. I tell you from experience. Who were the main victims of MMM people blamed it on poverty but did MMM not try to venture is other poor countries. What was the outcome in Kenya and some I can’t remember. You have a point that it is easier for the elites. I agree with you. But I have heard stories and worked for men that were nobody and became millionaires. It’s all about the mind. There are many abroad who are still hopeless and haven’t figured out what they want.

I miss the exotic fruits like udala, ube etc.. but then again, every other nigerian food item is readily available abroad. So, am I really missing much undecided

I'm really so grateful that my parents made the sacrifice many years ago and moved us out of that sinking ship way before things started getting so terrible!

My main regret, if any, is that migration is no longer easy for the average Nigerian (due to US visa ban, EU restrictions etc..) too many intelligent and wonderful people are stuck in that dump site sad

We are strong and able... Sooner or later I will move.

Thanks for your care.

yes. Building is an easy thing to start. It’s a project anyone can embark on. Now, it may take years to finish but it’s a project with no hard regulation. How easy do you think it is to secure a property in the US compared to Nigeria?
