Reality is u are not used to paying tax and all.As i said if u wanna go abroad go legit and not asylum seeking.I once had the opportunity to remain in uk i rejected it and moved to naija to resume work. That was 2013 and today i regret it.I tot naija go better bt its all an illusion. When i hear u say live in lekki i just laugh...so u will remain all ur life in lekki u wont visit government parastatal or travel outside lag for anything? The naija way is d wrong mindset to train a child becos ur kids grow up thinking wit d wrong mindset.I hav managers in my company that quit n moved abroad within d last 2 years and this are guys 5 times richer than i am in naija.Bro we aint all stupid, there is no hope for naija and safety is my number 1 problem.Even chatting here giving some of u advice scares me becos i dont want one idiot to begin to wonder how to kidnap me instead of working hard
yes i will live in lekki and do all my business in lekki and will not leave lekki. thats the plan. of course i will venture out to sane places like victoria island and ikoyi and banana island and thats it. THIS IS HOW YOU PLAN YOUR LIFE. I AM SURE IN THE UK YOU DONT VENTURE INTO PECKHAM IF YOU DONT NEED TO DO YOU ? lmao

I'm surprised how a 25yr old can gather such amount.

If you really worked hard for the money, you wouldn't be needing these advice cos you are richer than most people here.

However, i would advise you to start a business, food related ( bakery)

I have never been abroad but I'm certian it's not easy over there as well especially with racism and all

I'm also aware that almost 90% start up in Nigeria fail in 3yrs but you can be among the 10% - yes bad business environment in Nigeria but most times people go into business they know nothing about, hence the failure.

If you can run a business well, you can turn usa to backyard for weekend, watchout, only poor people are so desperate of traveling abroad, once you make it, you would just be shuttling.

I wish all the readers the best.

Everything you say is true interms of opportunities but at the same time as someone who likes in yankee usa it not all that to be quite honest everybody acts the same and look the same as has that individualistic selfish culture in america that i really hate. America is all about identity politics and how you can screw somebody over to claim wealth and resources it probably the same in europe. As the population increases the scare the jobs become most black and africans are doing menial jobs. i remember here in bay area california i met a igbo guy as bux driver and i know many Nigerian doing taxi driver. yes there are african in tech but that number is only 3 percent of over 12 million black population in the usa
So Nigeria blew up the tanker, some of you just spill bile without limit

Hello dear nairalanders.

Please I'm going through a state of mental confusion.

Currently i have approximately 20 million and 300 thousand naira in my bank account.

I have two thoughts.

1) I am 25 years old but I'm not a university graduate, i only have ND (National deploma) from a polytechnic In Edo state, Auchi precisely.

I would have become a graduate years ago but after my "ND" years ago, i refused to go back to school and i decided to hustle for money.

Most of my classmates in school back then are all graduates but all the same, looking at my bank account now, i have no regrets.

So this is what i plan on doing.

1) Can i further my Education In any university in the United States with the money and plan on staying back after my degree, for the fact that I'm 25.
Will that be advisable?

2) should i stay back in Nigeria and use part of the money to build a house In my hometown in Benin and use the rest for business?

3) Is there a chance of going to USA and start all over again, look for job.
Will the money be enough to rent a house, foot some bills untill i see a job in the USA.

Note i choose USA only because it's my dream country, I'm not scared of the traveling ban because I'm 100% confident that it will be taken away few months from now.

Please i won't be replying any mention or questions.

All i want is to take note of good advice.

I already know a reliable traveling agent.

Please other suggestions are welcomed apart from mine.

Please help

1. Bro, build a house (Twin Flats) if possible (not necessarily in your hometown). Rent one out and keep the other for your use, Somewhere you can stay when you come home.

2. Try your best to go and fulfill your dream to live in The US. (School, Work, Marry and have Kids there).

3. Why I said that is because if your future means a lot to you, you can build a new life there (though not easy) but at your age, you will make it there.

4. Though American visa is not guaranteed but it's worth trying. We all know how things changes in Nigeria rapidly.

5. No one here tought you how to make that money, so learn to live your dream.

Cheers!

It is annoying how Nigerians like to fratanize with the US like a bunch of slaves. The things I read here made me ashamed to live among people like this.
Some fools even advise him to go even if he's going to go broke within 6months,how much more low your self esteem can be.just so you know the travel ban isn't going anywhere and it'll soon extend to the whole of Europe in just a couple of months, you must learn to stay and develop your country by force.

Nice but what type of business?

But sincerely, part of the reason why i want to leave is safety of my life and my sanity.

I want my future kids to come into the world in a sane environment with top class Education.

I feel with me in the USA, i will be opening doors and opportunity for my siblings which are in school right now.

One of my sisters is studying as a nurse, i want her to work in USA as a professional Nurse and i feel with me establishing myself there, if will be possible.

I don't think about myself only, as the eldest child and son, i want the best life for my siblings, so my parents will be proud of me, i want my parents to visit me freely In USA and i feel this 20 million naira is GOD answering my prayers.

Hope you understand?

The USA is overhyped and they have always sold false dreams to the world. You will only know this when you have travelled around the world a lot

I always say that after China, Nigeria is the biggest copycat in the world.

We tend to follow what trends and not the facts. The wealthiest most comfortable and happiest people in the US are not doing the jobs that most Nigerians do out there eg. Nursing, Social Work, Cab Driving etc. Doctors, Gynaecologist and Surgeons are an exception.

Don't go for a profession you heard of or one your friend or cousin did. Do a bit of research for yourself and pick something you can do in any part of the world without language barriers.

Sonography, Robotics, Eco-Waste Management etc are rare but high-paying professions as well.

Pick something you see yourself doing at 50.

Pick something that excites your brain and keeps you actively interested in it

Your sister will become an excellent nurse because she is passionate about it but think beyond one country.

Your success should come first. Then when you are successful, others will follow.

I am guessing you are Igbo and I feel your Okpara pain but always remember that if you climb a mountain with a bag full of stones on your back, to get to the top would take longer. And the more you climb, the harder it will become that you may give up in between.

If you can, please go to the US, school or work there. People who have more than that amount with greater opportunities in Nigeria have packed and left Nigeria since. Investing in Nigeria is like high risk gambling. However, if you know of a product or service that is highly needed, you can try and invest in it with as little as possible and a maximum not exceeding 5million naira.

what kind of business?

Let me give you a clue, buy used nigerian cars at distress price and resell. Making a minimum of 100k per car isnt a bad idea. sometimes you make 250k depends. They are some you need to fix maybe with 20-30k before you resell.

Wish you good luck.

You must be joking with me right now cheesy Wow: see who I’m arguing with. I’m wowed. grin for a minute I thought I was talking with someone who knew what they were on about.

Please Nairalanders in the USA. Where are they selling whole houses cash for $2,000?

I need like 50 houses. Wow. I’m stunned.

Okay let me educate you. A decent house with 3-4 bedrooms in a decent area costs around 250-300 in the average state. Nothing luxurious. Just a good house with decent backyard space. If you’re in Florida, you might get a small swimming pool included in a 300k house. Don’t think about it if you’re in California, Seattle city or New York. I’m a Seattle baby.

If you have 60k for example, with good credit history and good job that pays no less than $3,000 monthly (ideally should be earning more in order to comfortably afford a house), you can find a bank that will give you a loan and you pay down payment of 10% which is $30k for a house that costs 300k. Then you pay monthly mortgage until you pay it off or sell it to another buyer (May or may not make profit) but you get your down payment and most of the money you put into the house back. You might lose money if the market is crashing but I digress.

With 60k you can get like two of such houses and then when you collect rent, you pay the bank their mortgage and then take the profit. Say your mortgage is $1,800 a month and you’re charging your tenant $2,300 for rent, you only make $500 in profit. Multiply by two and you’re making $1000 in profit. This is a very decent profit for an establish person with another source of income.

As a new immigrant with no history and no job, let’s say a bank magical agrees with give you a loan for a house or houses (which they won’t) , without another source of income, he can’t get by.

In summary, 60k is good money in the hands of someone who isn’t going to be dependent on it for day to day living. That way they can invest it and make profit. If he doesn’t get a job ASAP, the money will be gone in the wind by the time he’s done with his expenses. Even as a single person without family .

orunmila144:
ok all the expenses you put up there is for an established family. the guy will be going solo and will not be dealing with childcare and all that espense you put up there, and secondly who needs credit or mortgage to buy a house cash down ? thats what all these indians do when they go to detroit, they buy a whole street with less than 60,000 dollars. the street has like 30 houses and each house is selling for like 2000 each so with 60,000 dollars you buy the whole street and rent all 30 houses out. who is talking about mortgage or credit ? CASH BABY
and i stand by my point that 60,000 is a huge amount in america. at least white people who know the value of money will backk me up on that but you delusional nigerians who dont know the value of money and who all want to be the next dangote will think its small money. but its all in your mind. 60,000 will change any mans life in any country on this globe. its big money
