Good evening all,

I have just found myself in a dilemma that's really disturbing me emotionally. I need matured and candid advice from anyone who cares.

Just recently, myself and my fiancee concluded our introduction ceremony. The wedding comes up middle of this year.

Now the problem :

My fiancee is pregnant, early last month I registered her for anti natal in a very reputable hospital in Lagos. It is standard practice that they run series of tests before commencement of the treatment. After the results came out, my wife didn't disclose the findings to me, she kept it to herself until a day after the introduction.

The results indicated that her genotype is AS of which I'm also AS. Note that we had gone for checks 4 times before committing to each other, on all four occasions the results came out as AA for her. Her mum also confirmed that she is AA, she claimed she got her tested when she was young. Immediately she told me, I got so confused, I started sweating profusely. I immediately took her to another Lab close to the general hospital in my area. We both ran the test, I came our as my usual AS while she came out as AA. Also, Today, just to be sure again, she ran another test in a separate hospital on the Island and she also came out as AA.

My fear:

The hospital I registered her in is a reputable hospital and that's the reason I'm scared. I informed the hospital of my findings, they took another sample and promised to get back to me. It took them two days to call me, they left me and my wife in emotional distress while devising a means to clear their name or confuse me with medical terms. They finally called today and told me she has the AS hemoglobin in her blood but the AA is more pronounced. This got me confused cos if the AA is more pronounced, why release the result as AS in the first place. This is why I find their story hard to believe.

I feel they came up with this excuse just to justify their claim and cover up their mistake. How can 6 clinics and hospitals test her as AA while only this hospital says AS.

Note, just this evening a new test from a separate hospital says she's AA.

Nairalanders, please what do I do? Is it possible for this anomaly to happen ? Is it possible for her to have AS and AA hemoglobin at the same time where one will be more pronounced than the other. And if it's possible, what her the chances of my baby coming out fine.

Thanks Nairalanders.

What standards makes u call this so called hospital reputable should be one of ur questions If u think it’s by how much they charge or the structure and facilities in the building u might be disappointed. It’s by the level of the consultants and experience of the medical staffs. Sm of these big hospitals employ ridiculous staffs I’m sorry to say.

How can a reputable hospital come up with contradictory information.

Well, wanted to ask if the "reputable hospital" did a Hemoglobin electrophoresis test(Hb electrophoresis) or a mere Genotype.

Funny people. The hospital is unbelievable. It's shocking. These errors can occur for a number of reasons but their explanation is so mind-boggling it's hilarious. Why we act this way in Nigeria is beyond explanation

Op. Accept my sympathy on the distress they caused you

Happy marriage

Many thanks.

I really don't know. To the best of my knowledge only the Genotype was conducted. However, my HMO has instructed that I be referred to the best lab in Lagos. I will go there tomorrow and the result should be final.

I will update this thread tomorrow.

I'd been told my group since childhood. At some point, I went to a reputable private hospital to check. Surprisingly I was given a different group & I started rejoicing. But something told me to go and redo it in a teaching hospital. While I got result from the private hospital within two days, that of teaching hospital took two weeks. Guess what, teaching hospital returned my group that I'd always known I belonged to. I think teaching hospital is more reliable here.

You are asking the wrong question. You don’t have a genotype problem.

The question you should be asking is why your wiife waited till after introduction to show you the “wrong” result and what that means in terms of trust levels, on both side

What is it with asking faceless strangers for matured advice on such serious matters such as this? Go and meet with your family and the girl's family and trash out your issues for God's sake!!

I thought about it but I will rather dwell on a solution than bug her with such issues. She is in so much emotional stress, she's pregnant and I don't want anything that will make the situation worse.

I will confront her when the time is right and I will rather not waste my time on what is done.

The best hospital in town may not be the best for you.

I almost lost my wife at delivery in the best hospital in my state if not for our sensitivity.

I even signed their DEMA to take my wife away. She later delivered safely in a not too known hospital but having good health practitioners.

My brother, my advise is to first all ask your fiance deep question concerning her status..some women are terrible... my uncle's wife deceived him in believing that his wife was AA not knowing that she was an AS but was bribing all the hospital they both went for test without my uncle who happens to be a professor in UniZik Awka, before my uncle realized it was too late because both of them have married and there first child came out to be SS. It became a serious issue.
The lady claimed that she did it because she feels she was getting old and became desperate.

My advice is to take your wife's blood and go to undisclosed lab to find out by yourself if she actually an AA. She might be bribing the hospital staffs for that result..good luck!
Re: Confusion In My Very Young Marriage by Nobody: 11:57pm On Feb 27, 2020
op! let me give you a good advice, thank God your wife is already pregnant, to ensure you do not release your AS hemoglobin in her , find another man with AA genotype to be sleeping with her.
