Samakus:I don't want to believe this, then, why haven't they sent the funds so staff can be paid through gifmis, from what I gathered, it seems ippis is yet to pay Feb salary to those already on the platform |

There is a dilemma as to the modalities to be adopted for the payment of the February salary for federal University workers based on the January experience with the government failure to implement the payment of varsity workers using the Integrated Personnel Payment Information System (IPPIS). A source close to the branch Chairman of Nigerian University Administrative and Technical Staff Union (NUATSU) of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife said we are afraid the old salary structure may be use to compute the payment of February salary again as the government has not make necessary provision to commence payment using IPPIS for University workers because of the aggrieved Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) that are still dissatisfied with the new system of payment to federal workers. At University of Ibadan, a source had it that table for old and new salary has been prepared but the implementation of the new wage will be dependent of the federal government decision based on the money received by the University, he added that there is high tendency that the IPPIS will be used to make payment of varsity workers across the country which means new minimum wage would be paid to workers enrolled on IPPIS. The Accountant General has requested for the compilation of list of members of Academic Staffs and Non-Academic staffs including Academic Technologist to be sent by federal universities to enable deduction of dues to be remmitted to the unions which may likely imply that the IPPIS would be used to make payment of February salary to workers. Meanwhile it has been observed that non-academic staffs want IPPIS for payment of their salary as they do not trust the payment system of University administrators based on allegation of double deduction of some fund on their salary aside backlog of allowances and arrears University administrators are owing workers. |

EDUCATIONNigerian Universities staff threaten strike March 3, 2020By Wale Odunsi The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) has threatened strike over delay in the payment of their new minimum wage. Salaam Abdussobur, National Public Relations Officer, in a statement on Monday, said while workers in other sectors were already enjoying the new wage, the federal government has abandoned university workers. It noted that with the conclusion of the negotiations on the wage, SSANU expected an implementation would be seamless. “Unfortunately, however, months after the agreements were concluded and dusted, it seems the workers in the university system have been forgotten in the scheme of things”, it said. “While workers in other sectors have started enjoying the increment in the salaries, the university system has not. “Sadly, prices of goods and services immediately shot up as soon as the minimum wage was implemented, thereby causing financial hardships and difficulties for our members,” it read. SSANU lamented that there has not been any explanation from the government why the payment was delayed. “As a consequence, our members are becoming increasingly restive and agitated over the obvious neglect of the university sector in the implementation of the national minimum wage act.” SSANU called on the government to pay its members the new wage regime and payment of its arrears without further delay. The body said they have been patient enough and have shown great understanding with government on many of its policies. SSANU warned that the understanding and patience should not be at the expense or to the detriment of members’ welfare and incomes. “With the situation of things, it is becoming clearer to us that except an industrial action is undertaken, the new national minimum wage may never be implemented in the university system. “We hereby sound a note of warning to ensure the immediate payment of the minimum wage in order to guarantee industrial peace in the university system,” the statement added.
