I fall in this category
Never look down on yourself just be hopeful.. We all know that it is all about connection in this country. I know how you feel especially when the job requires a certain grade but it is not the end of life.
Ignore those negative posts and accept the sensible ones

Continue fooling yourself by making cases for westerners who already knew what they want out of life before they put in for their degrees.
My advice is for anyone on a 3rd /Pass is to get a UTME form, start all over again, choose the right course, not all these Art courses (Mass com, History, Pol Science, Pub Admin, sociology, psychology etc) because they're too many on the street and do yourself a favor to graduate with at least 4pt+,provided he/she would graduate before 24 and if you're on a 2.2 endeavor to make it to 3.5
Note : I am not saying there's a ready made jobs for those class of degree (CGPA) but because employers have deviced new means of cutting out numbers .You'll be sure of getting invites for tests and interviews and if you smash it, forget it, only ill luck can testify against you.
Come of it jare!! It's good to have good grades no doubt about it, but at the same time it does not guarantee anyone job in this country.. Jobs are been shared like cake in this country.. A federal polytechnic in my state recruited some months ago, and one of the interviewers complained to the rector that how could a third class degree holder possibly got recruited as a lecturer at the school, but the rector replied him that what's his problem with that.. Definitely, Abuja had the person covered... Biochemistry first class guy was like pleading for job on Twitter this week. He's been looking for job for over 4 years now.. Grade is awesome bro but connection is the bomb.. Like what a friend of mine told me about his brother experience when he got job at ptdf.. Those with sponsors were put in a room, served tea and bread while others were made to write aptitude test in another room for same job, and after the test they were told that they would get back to them even when they knew that their real candidates were enjoying themselves in another room.. Imagine after such enjoyment, they were given 20k for transport fare... In fact I went for an interview at one private University, I was called again for another interview but on getting there is met a guy whom I knew to be working in a state university, but was dismissed recently due to age falsification. This guy said he came for an interview at same department where I applied to and even the same position I applied for.. In fact he wasn't really interviewed but he name had been included on the least and I learnt the department is just looking for just two staffs. How did the guy get there? He's brother is the director of the ICT

Dude, I graduated with a 3rd class too. I didn't even bother looking for a job after school cuz as soon as I got to 400 level and I realized that only miracle can give me a 2nd class, I quickly opted for an alternative by learning programing from an ICT college part time.
Now I have my own ICT company and I'm doing fine with my own house, a small car and a beautiful wife. My life could have gone south if I was looking for a job and waiting to get one before getting married or moving on with life
The sooner you stop looking for a white collar job with that certificate, the better cuz if you are not well connected, you won't get any for another 10 years.
Funny fact is, my company is quite popular around Ondo state yet I still used a little connection to win a contract from a tertiary institution last month.

If you have a third class and you don’t want to be an entrepreneur then get an MSc to boost your chances.

As for pass, I don’t know anyone with that kind of certificate. I don’t know if they can enrol for pgd too.

If you are in Tech, a professional course/certificate will help.

3rd class guys I know became entrepreneurs almost immediately after school. They are doing businesses in fields different from what they studied.

This is really a sad moment for every Nigerian students out there, when you fit into a job description and then you found out they only want people with higher degree.

Graduating with a 3rd class or pass degree I believe is no sin. But employers out there would not even look at your CV when you are below par, no matter the amount of experience you are bringing. Some unavoidable things must have happened in school that led to that, but nobody cares.

How then do you tell that to the people around you? Especially your parents or guardians who’d be feeling like their investments on you went down the drain. When people finish from the university with a third class or pass degree, they most times feel like their whole world came crashing down on them. How then do one get to a good job?

I personally fall into this category due to some unforseen circumstances but who cares. After searching fruitlessly for jobs for a year now, I just have to sit back and think about my life.

My fellow Nairalanders what is the way forward? No job, no capital to startup my own business, no money to go back for a postgraduate course. Its just me myself and I (Owusagi)
Yes they are useless if their lives depend on their certificate. Nairalander is filled with stupid people always asking stupid questions.

You wouldn't blame the labour markets for such drastic decision this just to streamline the number of applications they will receive during interviews and test. I know this has not real helped the country in the area of capital development, just a matter of time Nigeria will get there one day.

Eyaah. This life is just funny. I think we need to as a country, work more on developing the mindsets of our young people. I keep telling anyone who cares to listen, "Wake up to the Nigerian situation!"
You are in a society were 1+1 isn't equal to 2 and you go on living and planning life as if you are living in a society were 1+1 equals 2, no matter your class of degree, you'll always come up short. In the famous words of T.B Joshua, "I won't say more than that."

I will share my personal experience on this matter.

Brother! there is always a way you can start up in life or i should better put, there is always a way you can start up all-over again in life. If you have Pass or Third class grade, if you are serious about having better grade in Education you then might need to re-start a degree program again.

My Experience on JOB and SCHOOL: I sponsored my studies from a re-sit WAEC all through my degree programms. I started hustling on my own as a CLEANER. i was doing the job when i went to resit for WAEC and i applied for and OND part time program while still doing CLEANING. so this takes care of your excuse of NO job or NO CAPITAL for business, if you are serious you can always start life somehow.

My Experience on BAD grade: I went for my HND still doing menial job, and i faced hell on that program, i offended a Lecturer on attendance matter and the lecturer declared that i would not graduate but God intervened, somehow i graduated but not until i have had several extra years till the lecturer retired and i was able to pass her course that has been holding me back, i finished the program with PASS grade. i'm not the type that will sit back with a Pass grade and say i'm a Graduate so immediately i got my statement of result luckily NOUN was still admitting so i took form and i got admission and by now i'm already working as a CONTRACT staff somewhere, today, i'm a graduate from NOUN with SECOND CLASS UPPER. The whole journey was full of so much pain, my brother, I suffered but at the end of it all, it WORTH it.

So my Brother, you have no EXCUSE to remain the way you are. God bless you!

God bless you bro.. ICT is giving a lot of people hope.. I saw an advert on Twitter yesterday for a full stack developer, what amazed me was that no certification or grade been asked for, it's just based on ur proficiency.. I have some friends we studied geology at the University together having goods grades who are leveraging on ict, and throwing the certificate at a corner..

People with such degrees and either too stupid or too brilliant to work for anybody based on my observation bt then sm have the finest bt simplest ideas. Sadly our career and work system doesn’t give much room for determining who is which bt with sm connection or referrals Ure good to go.

well this is sad depending on the side u are on...personally i do not believe if u are a serious student u will get a pass or 3rd class...na olodo de get this classes of degrees....aristole hustlers, cultists etc that keep missing classes...at least in my set 2005 uniben anything less than 2.2 was for the outright olodo etc...how can u spend 4-5 years in school and come out with a pass or 3rd class? u go there go sleep? abeg what is bad is bad! what is poor is poor! however there are some exceptions like victimization, ailment etc....me i got into school aiming for a 1st class but got a 2.1 instead...and was even sour with myself not to talk of 2.2 and below! ...recently i was shocked when i got to know that the firm i worked for does not take anything less than a 2.1! i was shocked because there were some juicy openings and i had lined up fr my friends to come in, only for them to be disappointed at the level of interview that only 2.1 is acceptable...only one person could scale thru

to get jobs in naija requires 5 major determining factors with myriad percentage depending on where you find yourself: the grace of God, connection, grades, experience, expertise...for me i will say it has been the grace of God, grades and extra qualifications at least u cant have a Ph.d and still not have a job unless village pple really ready for u, and experience....though along the line i enjoyed one job i got with connection but my grades made it possible to be picked!

young man dont feel sorry for yourself. I quite understand your plight about what went wrong in school that have contributed to that class of degree.
i had that ugly experience too in 2006 in the university.
You can apply to the NGO'S ,they employ with no discrimination or class of degree. you can also pick up valuable skills and do not allow anyone make you feel so low about yourself.
On your CV remove your class of degree and dont let anyone intimidate you. Pray for God's grace upon your life and Good luck !!
I went into a covenant with God that i will always pay my tithe to him and guess what things are really looking good. Don't be disturbed. Never give up
