ChristineC:

that makes sense, however what effect do you think it will have on the current wage structure considering Harry Kane especially can demand near £300k weekly.
Money dey. Ed no dey complain.

Seriously he needs to curtail it else his career will be affected badly.

The foul that got him the yellow was so unnecessary, at 3 nil up, I just can't understand where the frustration was from grin
Let him be our Ramos.

See as Romero saved that Rooney freekick with ease. That ball would have troubled DDG or even score and we will say it went over the wall and so not his fault

Good save for both free kicks from Rooney.

He didnt put his hope on the wall to defend it.

I think he will be alright in that regard. He probably has the best mentality in the whole squad in terms of fighting spirit and belief.

His major problem will be the fact that he is a right footed RB who was converted to LB midway though his football education. If he does not make it at Old Trafford that will be the reason why. Not everybody can be Phillip Lahm.

I love the aggressiveness of Brandon Williams, let him continue playing aggressive football. Wayne Rooney was very good in his younger days because he was aggressive, he could bully any CB but when SAF prevailed on him to calm down, he lost a bit of that drive.

Lingard - where do we draw the line between 'banter', criticism and abuse?

Something I've been thinking about since Caroline Flack and the whole 'just be nice' movement on social media - do you think it'll ever apply to football?

Obviously it's part of the job that they'll be criticised to some extent by the press/fans/media/social media but where do you draw the line? As i'm, sure you've all seen, comment sections on social media are often full of comments slagging off Jones and Lingard in particular

For those who don't know, Lingard has said publicly he's had mental health issues recently - he's looking after his newborn daughter, two siblings who are kids, his mum who's very ill, his grandad and nan have cancer but remains a prime target for jokes online. Jones said he doesn't want a testimonial because 'nobody will come'.

Now there's a video circulating of some 'fans' shouting racist abuse at Lingard after the Derby game last night. Honestly don't think it'll be long before we see a high profile player either committing suicide or dropping out of the game due to depression.

Where do we draw the line between 'banter', criticism and abuse?

Exactly what i was saying the other day. No one deserves the treatment he gets from so-called fans. Rival fans troll him, his own club fans who are supposed to motivate him to help him perform better abuse him. How can he perform? He is not a robot. Everyone keeps saying Lingard is shttt but people keep forgetting that this same Lingard was once called the English Iniesta, He was once nicknamed Messi-Lingard. You don't get compared to such greats if you don't show world class potential. So why is he so poor now? Obviously so called fans have broken the poor lad by constantly abusing him just because he has been having a poor run of form. I really pity him though.

The abuses are crazy but Lingard is the cause of his plight. He's not the first to insulted for poor form. He should pick himself up and improve. Age is on his side.

u people r just being sentimental. To whom much is given much expected. This is business. If lingard cannot develop thick skin to remain top of lucrative football games den he has no business being there. A lot of footballers want to b in his position. If he cannot deal with criticism in ever competitive world of football where millions of dollars r paid to u ( through fans hard earned money) den he shud get d phuck out.

LMFAO....... I am sure if lingard is your brother and you see someone hauling personal abuse at him straight to his face while entering the team bus yesterday including calling him a nigga you will smile and say it's just business. I am sure you also support those that broke into Ed's house as well.

Fear human beings oh... Ehn.

There's a place for banter, troll, criticism, and abuse. This one is beyond banter or troll.
Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by DeadPresidents: 7:08pm On Mar 06, 2020
I think abusing a player like that is unacceptable even if the player is really poor at playing football. Jesse Lingard is a human being first and a footballer second.

Unfortunately, as a public figure you have to learn to deal with these situations.

If he likes he should allow people pamper him to career destruction. He better takes that insult as a wake up call.

They say, every disappointment is a blessing.
