The Federal government has reacted to the power supply shortage being experienced in Nigeria.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) on Saturday, said it was caused by low gas supply.

Mrs Ndidi Mbah, TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, explained that the gas shortage had restrained the ability of many thermal power stations to generate optimally.

The plants affected by gas supply constraint included Sapele National Integrated Power Plant (NIPP), Olorunsogo NIPP, Ihovbor NIPP and Azura Edo.

“Other thermal power plants equally affected but generated at lower capacities include Egbin (Steam) Sapele (Steam) Delta (gas) Geregu (gas) and Omotosho(gas).

“Also affected are Olorusogo (gas) Geregu NIPP, Alaoji NIPP, Omotosho NIPP, Odukpani NIPP, Okpai (Gas/Steam) and Omoku (gas) power generating plants,” she said.

Mbah disclosed that TCN has discussed with the management of some of the affected power plants.

The plants, however, blamed their challenges to gas pipeline and processing maintenance being carried out by their gas suppliers.

”According to the management of some of the affected power plants, the maintenance of gas facilities is expected to last for 10 days,” she said.

TCN added that the gas supply challenges will ease before the end of next week.

Is it that they don't have workers who monitor when the gases will finish or people don't pay their bills any longer, what is it with them that they keep repeating themselves on this poor supply which many countries have achieved more than a century ago

As far as I'm concerned Nigeria should be recolonised...this time around without the option of getting independence BC it can't function on its own

In 2020

Still dealing with the problems of 1980s

Can someone please explain why power generation is solely and strictly under the purview of the federal government?

I will advice everybody to generate their own electricity by investing in Solar Powered System.
In Nigeria, if you rely on government for anything be it health, education, water, roads, electricity, etc, then you are on OYO!

What kind of technology are we using for Christ sake?

Don't other countries who have been having uninterrupted power carry out maintenance?

I can excuse matters beyond your control because I know how delicate power is but not some funny trash like this.

10 days maintenance that cripples gas supply.

Engineers on board, please what is the maintenance about.

I agree with you 100%
I always say it - Nigeria should be recolonized, we cannot govern ourselves and more sadly, we have successfully destroyed everything / every institution that the white man left behind for us. Big shame!

Re: TCN Explains Electricity Shortage Nationwide by Designer123: 10:12pm On Mar 08, 2020
This country will never get better if we still operate this centralized system of government. Power generation should be solely in the hands of state government and private bodies, when the power generating facilities of a particular state get faulty, only the state will suffer. Also, all federal schools should be handled by states, by then there will be no more nation-wide ASUU strike. There is really no hope for this country unless it is restructured.

Or the more they get worse. Incompetence is Nigeria's slogan, how can we pay money for something we don't even receive well?
