2nd how many Togo or Benin or Niger republic graduates do u know residing in Nigeria who work as gatemen or bakery attendants
What are you talking about? First, Togolese/Beninoise and Nigeriens in Nigeria largely work under the radar because they are themselves native Yoruba or Hausa and it is difficult to differentiate them from members of that tribe who are actual Nigerians; while Igbos are distinctly identifiable and I would want to believe that if they were a seperate country, their professionals would largely be driven out of employment opportunities in Nigeria and restricted to Igbo land, which can never provide them with sufficient job opportunities. Secondly, tariffs are for cross border trade which the other, non professional Igbos; being majorly businessmen; depend on for the most part.

But without open borders within a single entity, Igbo traders would have been immigrants, and there would have bewn taxes and tariffs on all their goods and services. It is not only about roads.

Again, most agricultural produce consumed in the Igbo regions is produced outside it. Without the presence of the Federation, Igbos would have had to import all their food.

I have been to the East; only it was a long time ago to be honest. The problem is not with the Central government but with the regional government. Federal allocatiins are adequate and commensurate with what other states are receiving, but to be sincere, the level of mismanagement of funds though endemic nationwide; seems to be much higher in the Igbo regions. I am sincerely no tribalist, and if you were sincere, I am sure you would acknowledge this to be true.

Igbos are the ones who marginalize themselves. They are open about their hatred of every other tribe in Nigeria; sometimes they even hate each other when there is jo one else to diss. You will see Mbaise man talking about Abakaliki man, and Imo woman talking about Anambra woman. Self-pity and self-victimization are not endearing characteristics anywhere. Yet the Igbos still have a strong showing in all parts of the decision making process, from the Senate to the Judiciary and the Ministries.

But the national body as a whole does permit movement of all citizens within the Federation. The Igbos are the most prevalent of all the Nigerian tribes within other communities. Their region alone could not have supported all their population at this standard of living. In the avsence of the Federation, the Igbos would have been immigrants in Kano, Port Harcourt, Lagos or Abuja where most of the jobs are.

Ok. Now I understand the specific meaning. Initially, the op attached his question to the other more common question of Igbo autonomy. So I based my response on the issue of being part of the Federation.

To answer your renewed premise, the projects you named in other regions are specific problems of those regions. For example, the Almajiri schools were primarily a response to the insecurity faced by the whole nation; not a specific favour to the North alone. The 13% derivation fund is as it states, derived from the resources in the South South and is necessary to address the resultant pollution and vocational loss. As for infrastructure projects in the Western regions, they are essential due to the greater presence of industry in those regions; and it is these industries that contribute to the nation's wealth making those projects economically profitable. Those are issues that directly affect the whole nation and not those specific regions. The Igbo regions have self inflicted issues that make them less attractive to investment; even the average Igbo man would rather invest in the West or the North; so they are not targets of viable FG infrastructure projects. Also, as is the case in all regions, allocations are made to the respective Igbo States for their internal development and very little has been done with these allocations. Are your State roads/schools/hospitals better than the Federal roads/schools/hospitals in yout region? The region's officials seem to be more interested in lining their pockets than uplifting their region, and instead of the Igbo people to hold them to task, they'd rather place the blame on 'Afonjas' or 'Abokis' as the source of their problems.

It is time for the Igbos to put away their carried over resentment from the now expired and historical civil war and work with others to move forward. Then they will have a viable case to present. Trust and friendship are not gained by force.

The op's question was that we explain what the government has done for the Igbos that they could not have done for themselves in an 'INDEPENDENT COUNTRY'.

Here is the op's question:

"Please can someone Name one thing Nigeria has done for the igbos which if left alone the igbos would not have been able to do for themselves either in an independent country or as a confederate state.

Some of your points are very misleading.
You
1) Are there International Airports in other parts of Nigeria?

And= Yes.

For instance, the Mallam Aminu International Airport,Kano is the busiest airport on the Nigeria to Saudi Arabia route.
There are International Airports in Port-Harcourt,Enugu and Calabar.

2) Can the FG compel Airlines and Air passengers to land in any Airport?

Ans= No

3) The old Federal Capital and Lagos State
are NOT exactly the same thing just as Enugu, the capital of the Old Eastern Region is not exactly the same thing as Enugu State.

The old Federal Capital was limited to Lagos Island, Apapa, Eti-Osa, Lagos Mailand and parts of Surulere LGAs.
Anywhere after the railway crossing at Yaba was never part of the old Federal Capital.

Ikorodu, Ikeja, Epe and Badagary Divisions of the State were never parts of the old Federal Capital but were parts of the old Western Region and many parts of these places were rural areas as at 1991 when the Federal Capital was moved to Abuja.
1. My guy Oyatz, Enugu airport was just touched by GEJ & PMB is on the verge of sth. Ethiopian airline flew to Enugu and Emirate was about to follow suit but the FG needs to setup some instruments and run some standardization before it can accept international flights.
Saudi Arabia is just one country; what about the hundreds of countries all over the world?
Depending on traffic, flight companies can direct their flights to Enugu and sure the SE has lots of travellers too especially to Asia (China)
Port-Harcourt was just rebuilt by the FG also. See these infrastructures are bad and only if the FG does right on them will international flights use them.

2. Now exactly same thing is happening with the seaports.
Bro, see Lagos would have been much better than what it is if the FG had moved some concessions to Onne porta and co. Today, the Yorubas who own Lagos I tell you are groaning cos of the population in the place which is making it hard to control in terms of neatness, crime, etc. I am one of the proponents that Lagos should be depopulated esp non-indigenes should move back to their states; those who have nothing doing there. Reason why I supported Fashola then.

3. The importance of the FCT in Lagos was in structures; all embassies, international organizations, companies, etc which prefers the capital especially for security and diplomatic reasons. And these and their employees all pay taxes to Lagos state
See, Ibadan is an example of my point. Ibadan didn't have the advantage like Lagos but grew out of pure independent hardwork. Kudos to Baba Awo.
You get?

Honestly, I hate to discuss this cos this shouldn't even be a topic if not for the situation we have found ourselves
Re: Name One Thing Nigeria Has Done For The Igbos by oyatz(m): 8:27pm On Mar 09, 2020
There are certain factors that mitigate against the economic development of Nigeria but these are actually more of failures of Leadership at ALL levels rather than deliberate conspiracy against a particular Geopolitical zone.

1) The Federal Military Government of the past years slower the progress of Nigeria down by getting involved in business enterprises and limiting the participations of Nigerians in such enterprises.

2) However, the FG can't dictate for market forces for long.

The FG can't improve the economy of a State for long.Only the market forces can do that.
For instance, for almost 30 years that the Federal Capital has been moved to Abuja, the city is still not a commercial city despite that ALL the Federal Ministries, Embassies, International Airport, Universities and the Head-quaters of many companies (including banks) are located in Abuja.

3) There were several attempts by the FG in the past to force maritime traffic to Onne, Calabar and Sapele ports but it backfired (similar to the attempts by the Federal Military Government (FMG) to fix prices of certain commodities)

In 1978, my father's container was forcely diverted from Apapa port to Sapele Port.

He went by road to Sapele, booked and slept in a Hotel there for days, cleared his goods and headed to Lagos to sell his goods at increased prices.

I understand your point which is very correct but without proper infrastructure, no shipper or airliner will move to other seaports or airports respectively.
See this: https://thenationonlineng.net/getting-eastern-ports-ready-for-cargo/amp/
Imagine that a nautical chart through to the Warri and Onne porta are yet to be produced. So, how do you expect the shipper to agree to use such route?
With proper standardization, no shipper would want to spend extra 4days just to dock at Apapa wharf?
Last December I paid extra 60% duty due to demurrage at the wharf for importing my personal car and I regretted changing my car.
My guy, if you visit even the Apapa wharf, you will just get tired of this country
You're right that even the SE governor's has been so low and greedy themselves stealing their states dry. Just imagine Orji Uzor Kali stealing billions while leaving Abia, a good production state in shambles and filth.
Now, take a look at the recent loan.
Tell me one thing you think the FG has done in the SE since 1966 aside OBJ who really tried?

Fulani herdsmen

NOTHING!

Nigeria is a burden on Igbos! It uses their hardwork, ingenuity and mineral resources. Then suppress Igbos and try to prevent them from developing even the most basic of things by taking away the control of their land against the agreed terms of unity enshrined in the 1963 constitution!

Thus, there is nothing left of Nigeria than to breakup and free all the trapped nationalities trapped inside the crazy contraption.

Start from pre1900 and list what Igbo had done for itself prior to contact with whitemen. There is NOTHING!

Take the period between 1900 and 1950, list anything meaningful Igbo did in its homeland. There is NOTHING!

Is there anything Igbo accomplished for itself between 1950 and 2000? Yes, WAR in its homeland.

Here is list of what Nigeria gave you, many of which you squandered.

1. Access to North and Western Nigeria. Manpower used in building the Kafanchan to Zungeru rail line.

2. Access to News Journalism - Azikiwe's Newspaper, The Pilot.

3. NCNC political party -
Ibonized under Azikiwe and mismanaged.

4. Regional Autonomy created -
Self-Determination in East, squandered.

5. President Azikiwe abused power and trust, used ethnocracy in place of meritocracy and filled VC seats, civil service and military positions with Ibos. This was the first push by Ibos to centralize administration and be the dominant authority. Other regions pushed back and rapidly removed Ibos from unmerited positions.

6. Ibo coup 1966 -
What they could not accomplish under political scam (see 5 above), tried to force using terror. Displaced or killed Yoruba, Kanuri, Hausa and Fulani military and political top leadership, Ibos were left untouched.

7. Under Ironsi leadership, Ibonised military promotions, junior Ibo officers were promoted ahead of senior Westerners and Northerners. Parastatals were put under Ibo leadership. Leadership of radio station in Kaduna were subordiated to a non career Ibo. Coupists were arrested and locked up in East to shield them.

8. Ironsi outlawed regional power and centralized all administrations with himself as Supreme Leader. This was fine with Ojukwu.

9. Ironsi killed, Gowon took leadership and began to reverse seniority and leadership arbitrarily gifted to Ibos under Ironsi.

10. Ojukwu did not like this and rebelled against Gowon and questioned his use of Supreme Commander title.

11. Bifra continued the rebellion from 66 to 70.

12. At end of war over-population and high density posed risk to survivors. A rehabilitative program put in place to accomodate refugees and survivors of war.

13. That rehabilitation program has expanded and continues to be the single attribute of growth for Ibo recovery and survival.

If the rehabilitation and accomodation is restricted Ibo would have to find foreign places to go or return to homeland to risk losses and diminished returns under conditions of over population and high density.

On your own you cannot accomplish pace of progress you have now. You are deficient enough that UN may have to step in and prevent massive death resulting from scarcities and diseases resulting from wastes and unsanitary conditions.

Third was the idea of Lagos State Govt under Mobolaji Johnson and in fact they started the first phase. IBB saw into the future of the infrastructure as a befitting legacy.....if it was named after him.....and took it over.
