Why is Union selling, now that they are profitable and just started paying dividends?
Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by onegentleguy: 5:04pm On Mar 14, 2020
The rumour that ZENITH may be about to acquire UNION bank is looking likely to be true. ...including that of a merger between FBNH, POLARIS(formerly skye) and HERITAGE bank.
...I am yet to confirm things though.

We wait to see if there'll be update from any of the banks involved. ...or maybe a denial before an acceptance like we saw with the marger of ACCESS and DIAMOND then. wink cheesy grin

It is well.

Better don't change your USD (safe haven) yet because stocks will still get cheaper and devaluation is inevitable.

BARGAIN HUNTERS TAKE NOTE!

Fed has set aside over $5trn to be injected into the economy in 1 month grin grin

You think say dem dey play.

Other central banks have set aside huge funds.

Where is that money going to? Everywhere!

After this, the whole world will be awashed with liquidity. Everything will go up. Inflation go finish dem.

During TARP, Ben Bernanke set aside $700b. This 700b dey learn! grin

See money, grab your own. They are all very predictable.

*Breaking News*
Zenith Bank finally wins bid to take over Union Bank. Signs due diligence report today at the CBN HQ, Garki, Abuja.
More info unfolding soon.
Wow!
Zenith bidded for a much more healthier bank compared to the ones Fbnh is merging with, it's even merger and not taking over.
GTB brace up for the impact, Zee is coming. grin
I think it will be more better to buy Union Bank now? Any counter opinion ?

It would favour Union shareholder's...even more considering the price of Zenith now.

My thought too, but it's going to be a win-win for shareholders of both banks considering Zee's price now.
This dumping needs to continue to Tuesday so that some of us can join the train. I cancelled my bid on Friday when I saw the huge supply at N11. grin
Zee suppliers, you cannot come and go and stop this supply now ooooo. C-19 is yet to get cure. Lol. grin

I believe ur statement should've been made to infer the opposite;
"It should favour ZENITH bank shareholders much more, considering its current mkt price compared to that of UNION bank."

Hint: Compare both banks EV/NAV, BVPS, ROAE, AER, CGPR and EM. The last 3 indices are; Asset efficiency ratio, Cash generating power ratio and Equity multiplier respectively.

That said, I expect ZENITH to propose a MTO @ a premium to the current mkt price of UNION.
ZENITH will benefit more from the aquisation in time though.

As for the other rumour of a merger btw FBNH and those 2 sick banks, I am not too sure of what immediate reward lies therein for the acquirer.

It is well.

Gurus in the house pls Which stock is advisable to buy now?
Btw I'm also considering buying BTC since it's massive dip..
Though not a guru but I must say it's difficult to advice anyone on stock to buy around this time, prices were seriously fallen until Friday that we witnessed a little reversal and relief.
Maybe it's right to say that you came at the right time after-all cos prices are so low now.
If you go through the last 5-10 pages, then few stocks should be ringing bell to you, starting from Zenith........you can then follow your mind. Don't forget to ask questions before you jump in to any. This is my 50cent opinion.
As for BTC, I have no idea.

The core Investor is a foreigner and wants to book profit. Zenith will buy his 49% holdings, after which both Banks will merge

Sir, you're very right.
Think we need to see the share exchange ratio first. If Zenith remains 'down' for quite some times, it may affect the ratio and UBN shareholders may not benefit as may be expected, compared with the time Zee is trading around 18/19/20.....it means the acquisition will favour Zee shareholders the more.
Just my opinion. We wait and see how everything goes.

If indeed the rumour is true, then ZENITH needs to push up(in price) to better mirror/reflect an effective share xchange ratio and/or cash consideration as the case may be.
Again, consider the hint from the post above.

We wait to see how things play out.

Those sitting on heavy losses should stay where they are. There is light at the end of the tunnel.

What you saw in the market is how it goes. Never enter a market believing that once you enter, it will always go up. It can go down faster than you imagined.

Most are sitting on over 50% loss and can't open their portfolios. Don't sell in the panic that will occur again. I believe that will be the last.

Our market was low even before the decapitation started worldwide. Coronavirus made it worst and oil crisis exacerbated it. I believe we are close to the bottom. I too like bottom grin grin

Once the bus goes to pick up Marlian and co, all road leads to North Pole.

On the coronavirus crisis, this is a black swan event that shakes the market. This isn't a financial crisis. This is a health crisis. With the way US and EU are aggressive in their approach to contain the spread, I believe end of March we will be seeing positive news on the global front.

As for the economic impact of the virus, most developed countries have started rolling out stimulus to reduce the effect on the citizens and the market. Na that stimulus go soon enter market and we go dey alright las las. grin grin

So fear not, for I am with you grin cc.... Veecovee tongue tongue
Thank you so much sir for your selfless inputs and guidance on this thread. I always look out for you and sir OGG comment. Having diligently followed your comments and analysed them, I bought Zenith again this week at 10.85. When I did the calculations putting into consideration the dividends I've received from the previous one, I can say I am at VERY GOOD POSITION. I pray it falls more so I can load more. Once again Thanks. Daalu Nwannem

Exactly my thought too. was about to reply @Mcy when I saw your post. It wouldn't profit Zenith merger if their share price keep dropping. It will either hold @CP or move higher.

When mergers or acquisitions like this take place, any negative prevailing circumstance doesn't matter. Both parties are gunning for a win-win.

If you observe the traded volume before 12pm on Friday , you notice that the volume wasn't much (Not up to 90M).

After 12pm, it was normal sellers bring out their wares in small quantities with bids increasing. Zenith went on full-bid before 1:30pm with no sellers at a point.

I don't think that entity seller will bring out wares again @ a lower price. we are observing though.

Stimulus packages around the globe was announced on Friday.

Extrapolating all the above, it's likely zenith will hold support @CP or go higher by Monday.

It will come and go. Those on cash will only buy cheaply worldwide and sell very high.

Some countries can even make it worst for those shorting indices, stocks by banning short selling. Then you will see acceleration of prices as investors buyback to cover their positions. grin grin

The problem we will face isn't the coronavirus. It is the solution employed to solve this economic impact that will cause the major financial crisis. The ground work for the next financial crisis had just started. Pumping excess liquidity will finish US especially. Dollar will be so weak and things go cost well well. From deflation, they will enter hyperinflation.

The Oso Abiola will be when Fed tries to cull this liquidity from around the world. grin grin

I've learnt never to say never in this market again.

I was just thinking, that maybe UBN is one of the reasons Zenith was brought that low, so they can acquire it cheaply, then move the bus thereafter.
If it continues to stay in the current range or it goes up and they brought it back again, then this could be one of the reasons.

Ovia started out as a clerk at Union Bank, formerly Barclays Bank in 1973. This was shortly after he finished his secondary school. He worked for 3 years as a bank clerk before moving to USA where he obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree. Maybe it has been a lifelong ambition for Jim to one day takeover Union Bank.
