Can APC tell us why they opposed subsidy removal in 2012 and support it in 2020?

Which subsidy ? I thought the lying Major General said he was under recovering ...But with price of crude oil below 30 dollars per barrel what subsidy are we talking about ? They should just say the want to increase fuel price so they can have what to loot as usual , all other countries are mooting fuel price reduction and satanic APC is talking of removing subsidy , at 30 dollars per barrel there can be no subsidy in effect , what difference are they subsidizing at 30 dollars per barrel ...when Buhari can he claimed he had removed subsidy completely and took fuel price to 147 per litre till today he cannot show what he did with money he gained before he now claimed he was paying under recovery because crude had gone to 70 dollars per barrel and now it below 30 dollars the wicked man is still claiming he is paying subsidy !!!! Paying subsidy on what ?

In 6 years the failed man has not fixed a single refinery , has not improved electricity , has not stabilized the naira and now he wants to add a new fuel tax under the guise of removing a non existent subsidy ..there can be no subsidy at 30 dollar per barrel!!!!!

You can't decieve me by subsidy remove Buhari means he wants to increase the price of petrol , if you were sharp you will know subsidy means someone is paying to make something cheaper for the end user and when its removed the price will increase abi have you head where subsidy is paid to make a product more expensive before ?

Simply put, they’re reducing pump price to 130 from 145 and the payment of subsidies will be stopped because no essence of paying subsidies when crude oil has gone down to less than $30

Printing more money doesn’t increase economic output – it only increases the amount of cash circulating in the economy. If more money is printed, consumers are able to demand more goods, but if firms have still the same amount of goods, they will respond by putting up prices. In a simplified model, printing money will just cause inflation.
True you have more money, but if everything is more expensive, you are not any better off.
In this simple model, printing more money has made goods more expensive, but hasn’t changed the quantity of goods

Nice piece.

What's the suggested way forward?

I used to think a weak currency was all that was needed for exports to boom. I was wrong. I was also very young then.

You need money to export. Is credit available to buy the goods? How much is the cost of credit? 25% in Nigeria's case. This is quite high.

Also, for your goods to be very competitive, you need high productivity. Productivity in Nigeria is low because credit is costly. To invest in world-beating modern machinery, you need large chunks of money and borrowing at 25% or more, you'll just go bankrupt. The high cost of credit is the major bane of the country and not even poor infrastructure.

I totally agree. That is another factor all on its own. Solutions for all these issues are usually subject to the analyses of economic think tanks, government audit teams, researchers, and input from higher institutions. We don't have all these structures working effectively in Nigeria, so we vent on NL. It all really comes down to our poor work ethic.

Poor work ethic won't resolve. A change in policy is necessary. A policy change that will bring lending rates down to single-digit levels.

Soludo wanted to bring about the change by changing the inflationary manner in which monthly allocations are disbursed to the 3 tiers of government.
unfortunately, he was sabotaged by the governors and from his enemies within the Central Bank.

Had he been smart and sold the idea to the federal and state governors, there was a great likelihood they would have bought it. Soludo is a technocrat and not a politician able to sell his ideas to the political class or even the masses.

Simply put the more available anything is the less its value.

If they print more money it will lose its value.

There is a complex explanation though

Are these people well at all? Countries are proposing ways to alleviate the sufferings of the people and these ones want to compound it? When you devalue the currency, how will essentials be imported into the country and made available cheaper? When you remove subsidy and people can't afford it .....what sense does it make?

What needs to be done is cut down cost of governance which is taking almost 60% of our revenue. angry

The only remedy is to produce, to consume and to export to get the dollar. Any other thing is pure jargon.
