I think the pastor was right.

The church is made up of both literate and illiterate congregants.

Those who came for service might not have been aware of the situation on ground.

Even if they can't read, don't they listen to radio and watch TV? Even if they don't do that, don't they hear people discussing it everywhere? That's the major topic in town, let's stop deceiving ourselves

It is very possible that the bolded signifies what happened.

Winners can not afford to place TV or radio announcements to inform their members that service won't hold? Don't they have funds to educate the members of their congregation of the dangers of the virus through adverts?

Oyedepo behavior is inexcusable and a disgrace. If they could obey foreign governments, why not here?

I was on the same flight that brought Adefarasin to Nigeria on Saturday. The airport corona virus screening personnel were discussing that he was giving them attitude. They said if he was abroad he'd obey the law but here he is being haughty, condescending with no respect of officialdom.

These churches should be shut for a month after restrictions have been lifted on public gatherings to act as a deterrent to others who won't obey Caeser. It is for nothing it carries the sword (Read Roman's 13:1-7)

People be looking for the slightest opportunity to harass the church like they are the cause of their frustrations or current position in life

Even when there was nothing like corona virus people still found one thing or another against the church. So their rant is nothing new. They must talk

Good clarification from the special assistant

For those looking for apology. Go to the front of the church, hold up placards and demand for apology grin

angry

I think you're exaggerating the church apology here. Seyi Makinde apologised in Oyo State after defiantly holding his SW PDP rally amidst the coronavirus scare, did his apology change anything? Oyedepo might have already defiantly brought down calamity on his flock of sheep, what will his apology do now?

That is a very dumb excuse.
How can you sensitize people by bringing all of them into one enclosed space? Why can't you sensitize them online or send text messages?

I have said it before and I'll say it again. This virus will spread not because it's contagious. It will spread because of the actions of stupid people.

And we have them in abundant in Nigeria. Stupid people everywhere. Gathering sheepies together in other to tell them not to gather together! How silly did I sound?

The point in bold shows the main reason why you wrote what you wrote. To you, it was an opportunity to attack the church and nothing more. You wanted to make a point that Christianity isn't worthwhile, and it was obvious from the very beginning.

Now, you're asking how churches that claim to be healing centres are closed down when people have been attacking and abusing a few churches that opened yesterday. So the church should go against the order of the governments?

You see, buildings have been temporarily shut, but buildings don't define the Church. The Church is the people of God. Gatherings of the people of God are being held online now, so the Church hasn't been stopped.

You're probably an atheist or an agnostic. You haven't got any answers to the questions of life and existence. People are seeking for answers to the meaning of life. They have found it in believing in God, whom you don't believe in. Leave them to their beliefs. Many lives have been transformed by the Church in the last 2000 years. Even the civilization of Nigeria was heralded by the church before politicians from Britain took over. Many societies have been transformed for good by the entry of the Church. Leave Christians to their belief in God and embrace your unbelief. Before the next 80 years, we will know who was right and who was wrong.
Lol. Christians and shifting goal posts. Now church is the people not the building, but if boko haram bomb the building, you'll call it a church and we no go hear word. Church is both the building and the people. In fact to most pastors and the church goers, the building is as important as the people, little wonder they invest billions in building it, they bow when passing the building while on the road, some buildings have been known to be constructed over a period of hundreds of years. Even some pastors refer to it as the house of God.

If churches are that important and the healing centre it portrays to be, it shouldn't have been shut down, infact if it had been proven that a said miracle healer is curing the virus, people will rush there regardless of government lockdown. Now is the time for faith healers to prove the power of God for healing, but just like it has always been they disappoint and all eyes are on science to provide cure or vaccine. Is any man of God in pressure to provide solution? Is any church in pressure to cure the virus? No, because even the government know that they can't, that's why they are being shut.

About answers to the questions of life. Science provides the closest best and logical answer to any question in life. Religion has never produced a better answer. That's another deep argument to delve into. If u believing that God created himself makes logical meaning to you, or that a virgin concieved, or that the earth was created in 6 days; when u get to church next sunday, ask your pastor where God was staying before he created heaven, if earth or the universe cannot exist on its own (big bang), how come something more complex than it, that created it, that is God could now exist on his own, and you're more comfortable with it than the previous. Religion has lots of unanswered questions, infact in produces more confusion than answers.

Religion always taking the glory, which civilization was heralded by the church? It's just like 200 years from now, the church will take glory that it heralded the civilization of our time. With their fake history writing. Nigeria was not far from other countries like china, india, brazil, middle east, even some European countries when the christians came in their very first slave ship to ruin us. The world was just developed by technology and industrialization. More than 600 years ago, my people already have the technology to manufacture igbo-ukwu bronze pot, when they came, beni was an empire with walls, if the whites hadn't come with Christianity or whatever, one way or the other we would still had developed. Cos the world is always moving. China didn't have Christianity yet they are able to develop.

80 years from now? We don't need to wait 80 years from now. Let the church prove their power and save the world from this pandemic. They're good at rewriting history, cos 80 years from now they may write that holy water was the vaccine to covid 19. It's not their first time of rewriting history eg. The council of nicea, and others.

Lastly, no need to argue much longer, cos I'm currently jobless and in dare need of a job, so I have lots of free time at my disposal. You're one of the religious folks I've seen that is reasonable and also less insulting. I commend that.

Pure nonsense! Place a big banner in front of gate, lock the gate like other responsible church. These small pastors always have a way of dodging the most important issues.
Let Bishop Oyedepo issue a statement himself and i will know Winners is talking.
How could Ogun governor have engaged him privately when he disregarded both himself and the Presidents authority in public.
Imagine the sermon and the prayer point self.
Its very easy to lock schools because they already paid tuitions, church never stops paying!

in as much I respect some of your submission, I could remember Paul (a junior in rank - although by our "own" standard) calling Peter an hypocrite to his face.

You see, protection does not shield us for saying the truth if it is in line with the scripture. And the theory of touch not my anointed is really doing a great damage to Christianity in the sense that we succumb to whatever 'our daddy in the Lord' do to us.

Let us stand for the truth no matter what.

Instead of saying literate/illiterate, why not look for synonyms to match the two words?

I am ashamed reading this lame excuse. People perish for lack of knowledge. Why are we like this in this country despite all our literacy? Why is there no truth on and off the altar? Govt lies, religious leaders lie, business men and women lie, civil servants lie, all lies, lies and more lies! I'm really ashamed and sad at same time.

Those of you defending lies and mediocrity should stop deceiving yourselves and pray that those who attended that service don't come up with the virus in 14 days from now. Because if that happens, I am sure y'all will no longer have the energy to express your foolishness and naivety.

PRESS STATEMENT FROM LIVING FAITH CHURCH ON CHURCH SERVICE OF MARCH 22, 2020

*Coronavirus: Compliance with Government Order – Matters Arising*

It has become necessary to issue this statement to clarify issues surrounding why Faith Tabernacle, Canaanland, the International Headquarters of Living Faith Church in Ogun State, held church service on Sunday, although with less than half of her regular worshippers.

There have been diverse responses varying from well-meaning concerns to uncharitable insinuations, misinterpretations, and unfounded allegations that the service was held in deliberate defiance of Ogun State Government ban on high-density gatherings, in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic. Nothing can be further from the truth.

For avoidance of doubt, as stakeholders and as a responsible organisation, Living Faith Church fully supports and encourages compliance with all initiatives of government to combat the spread of this dreaded virus. However, information has to be strategically disseminated to the grassroot, noting that the Church is a family and not an industry, it is for this reason that enlightenment and sensitization from the Church platform is a most effective way to get people involved in playing their part in terms of prayers and intercessions and not just staying away from Church without knowing what to do.

Should have stopped reading there...

You could easily have stopped people at the gate and explain why...
The rate of transmission of Covid-19 does not warrant the risk of "enlightening" them inside.

Just apologize and do better...
Instead of trying to insult our collective intelligence. SMH
