The country has recorded four new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has said.

It said this brings the total number of infected persons in Nigeria to 40 as of 11:00 pm on Monday.

NCDC confirmed this in a Monday night tweet.

According to the agency, three of the new cases are in Lagos while the other one is in Abuja.

"Four new cases of #COVID19 have been confirmed in Nigeria. 3 are in Lagos State and 1 in FCT.

"Two of these cases are returning travellers.

"As at 11:00 pm on the 23rd of March, there are 40 confirmed cases of #COVID19 in Nigeria. 2 have been discharged with 1 death recorded," the agency said.

They could still shut down and ensure citizens coming in are automatically isolated for 1 week and tested before allowing them to go home.

Even if FG had shutdown the boarders earlier...
It would still have been opened to returning citizens, you can't shutout your citizens out in the time of trouble.

I will however blame FG for not quarantining the returning citizens.

I still can't believe we let these guys put us in this situation. We should have packed ourselves to all the international airports and demanded a shutdown on the spot.

We kept quiet and now we suffer in silence.

The COVID-19 pandemic is like nothing else...
Accordingly, EVERY nation is making it up as they go along.

Usually most countries would not (and should not) stop citizens returning home...
And all but 2 cases (1 by land) so far has been NIGERIANS returning and their contacts.
