SlayerForever: We have an ignorant generation of Ikwere that have been missinformed that they are not Igbos by the post war generation. The pre-biafra war Ikwere, identified and documented themselves down as Igbos. The effects of Biafra war can bee seen in Ika communities and Ukwuani in Delta State, too. Do we throw dem all away becos they are suffering Post War depression? Are we any better, than the deniers if we do so? no! 1 Like |

pazienza:You are the one trying to create a one-sided narrative. I never made them victims. I already stated they are selfish and lazy opportunists. But you find such people in every group however closely knitted the group is and, the division wouldn't manifest until it meets the rare combination of an I gbophobia national policy and igbophobic Igbo neighbours. why won't they deny Igbo when they reap the funny priviledge of being Igbo's and the privilege of not being Igbo's at the same time. The south east Igbo's are always there to suffer for them as "shock absorbers". That is how Fulani system made it. it benefits no one. It has to be dismantled so the region can prosper. you can't achieve it by what you're doing now. |

Re: I Didnt Know Gov Nyesom Wike Is Of Igbo Descent by hammer0: 7:00pm On Mar 26, 2020 |
Armaggedon: My own solution is simple. Be patient with them. Encourage marriage with them becos it seems some of them married Ijaw and that is affecting them too. Thirdly, have lots of joint venture with them and take every opportunity to tell dem dey are Igbos and always expect them to deny but tell dem anyway and not get angry. |

Armaggedon: At the bold. And what do you think I have been trying to do? We allowed them to enjoy playing the game, by keeping the door of Igbohood open to them. So they can cunningly come in at their volition and claim Igbo when conditions are right, and also sneak out to claim non Igbo when conditions are not favorable. Common sense dictates that we deal with them first and foremost, before we start talking about Hausa-Fulanis. Hausa-Fulanis would not be playing the game without Ikwerre and their co travellers co-operation. How we deal with them is to make the Igbo ethnicity a tight one, by ensuring that there would be no place for Ikwerres and every other chameleonic unstable Igboid groups, within the Igbo ethnic nationality. We simply ban Ikwerre sons from taking part in Igbo gatherings, we send any of them in our midst back to Ogbakor Ikwerre, and we send strong warnings through print media and social media to any opportunist Ikwerre that ever tries to claim Igbo, like Amaechi once did. We make it a point of duty to imprint on the mind of all Ikwerres that they will no longer be accepted in Igbo gatherings and they will no longer be allowed to claim Igbo at any point in time. We become very stoic and aggressive, in denouncing any attempt by other Nigerians to label Ikwerre persons as Igbo. It's time we started looking out for ourselves. We will no longer be anyone or group "shock absorber". Let everyone go bear their father's surname. The era of freeloading should be over. 5 Likes |

You are still making the same mistake. 1) You can NOT determine who is an Igbo and who shouldn't be Igbo. Igbos are those who accept to be Igbos (irregardless of their ancestries or historical extistence). Non-Igbos are those who refuse to embrace the Igbo tag. Every group decide where they want to belong. 2) Ethnic groups are NOT constant, they change with TIME. Yorubas, Hausa and Igbos as we know them today are created by the BRITISH colonial Masters who categorized tribes/clan that they (the British) think are similar in ancestries, culture or already under common political authorities /influence (e.g The Oyo Empire and the Sokoto Caliphate). Any group that like the category can stay and stick to it. Those who aren't comfortable with it can opt out. pazienza: 2 Likes |

SlayerForever: The Ikwerre were active collaborators to the Ijaws, go and ask well. A good number of Ikwerre people benefited from that policy, and they were happy with the whole event. Stop painting the Ijaws as villains. They didn't do anything that Ikwerres were not in support of. It was some Ikwerres sons who led the FG forces to capture Biafran soldiers, Oriji played active role, likewise Elechi Amadi. It was Ikwerres who requested to be part of Rivers state with Ijaws right after the war, Oriji led that agitation too. We can't continue living in delusions, no group ever progressed by lying to themselves. It's 50yrs since after the war already. The Igboids were active partners to the Ijaws, it was a partnership built on Igbophobia that was always going to collapse once the Igbos were out of the picture. I don't know who did this thing to Ndiigbo. But I'm going to try to jolt us back to our senses. 3 Likes |

hammer0: Thanks. Ikwerre couldn't have been the main actors in the abandoned property saga. It is impossible. Ikwerre were a group that suddenly found themselves in a new Rivers State by a mere pronouncement by Gowon. After the war the Ijoid groups who were mostly jubilant with the situation with the backing of the Nigerian government jumped on people's properties. It didn't end there. The Igboid groups had to live under the deathly grip of the Ijoid people in the new Rivers State for a good 29 years!!! Sometimes, as someone from the South East it's easy to throw stones at the Ikwerre and other groups but they got it way worse and it has made them agressively political. Understanding the background situation sometimes go a long way in explaining things. |

pazienza: THE IKWERE ARE EVEN A SMALLER GROUP COMPARED TO THE NUMBER OF IGBOS IN RIVERS. U HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THAT RIVERS STATE IS A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PLACE TODAY THAN IT WAS WEN JOINED WITH BAYELSA. THE WESTERN IJAW(ONDO) WERE ABLE TO INFILTRATE THROUGH DELTA INTO RIVERS STATE AND SABOTAGE THE BIAFRA WAR EFFORT. TOGETHER WITH YORUBA, MIDDLE BELT, HAUSAFULANI THEY SOUGHT TO CUT IGBO DOWN TO SIZE. ABANDONED PROPERTY WAS JUST A TINY PART OF IT. |

oyatz: The sane Britain you are using as an example still has Scots, English, Welsh and Irish as its recognized indigenous ethnic nationalities The same Britain you using as an example is made up of ethnic enclaves called Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland The same Britain you are talking about gave Northern Ireland and Scotland referendum in 1971 and 2014 respectively Nobody in Nigeria is going to abandon their ethnic nationalities for some super-ethnic group. For one thing, it cannot work. We are all different people. Are we going to also have a Super-religion to bring Muslims and Christians together? Are we also going to have a super-culture to bring all the cultures together? It is impossible What we should do is what Britain did and give those who want a referendum a chance to choose between Nigeria and independence. Personally, I think that Nigeria is a disastrous British colonial experiment that has since failed woefully. That the British brought us all together does not mean we must all die together. Let us all come to the reality that Nigeria is unworkable. Let a referendum be held so that the people can decide if they want to continue with Nigeria or not. Thats even more important than the unity of Nigeria 2 Likes 1 Share |

pazienza: Nope nope nope. Not true. There were a number of turncoats during the war, what was known as Sabo. These were the greedy few who sold out their people for personal gains. Some were Igbo in the new Rivers State looking to cash in, true. But there were sabos throughout Igbo land during the war, not restricted to the Rivers area. You may not know but the name "Sabo" was not restricted to Igbo turncoats. Anybody who sabotaged the war effort was Sabo, whether Ijaw, Igbo, Nkoro etc. Elechi Amadi was one of such fellows. He was a major figure then and the Federal Forces played on his greed and used him against the wider Igbo to push a separate Ikwerre ethnicity. Stupid man. And Rivers was created right before the war bro. To further destabilize the already shaky relationship between the Igbo and the minorities and to weaken the Igbo heartland. Get your dates right. If the groups therein weren't Igbo already, Michael Okpara wouldn't have cited the Garden City there. Remember Garden City was the Igbo answer to Lagos. A lot has happened sha. |

I WONDER IF WE WILL BE HAVING THIS CONVERSATION, HAD IKWERE BEEN ADDED INTO IMO STATE, INSTEAD OF RIVERS STATE. ANOTHER ONE IS UNFOLDING IN LAGOS, WHERE YORUBA ARE AGGRESSIVELY PURSUING MARRIAGE WITH IGBOS BY FIRE BY FORCE, I DONT KNOW WHETHER THE IGBOS WILL SAY THEY ARE SLEEPING. THE RESULT WILL SOON BE OUT IN A COUPLE OF YEARS TIME. BLOOD MIXING WITH EVERY TOM, DICK AND HARRY. THEY ARE NOW TREATING MARRIAGE LIKE THEIR INVESTMENT IN PLACES THEY ARE FOREIGNERS AND DEY CAN ASK THEM TO LEAVE ANYTIME. NDI ARA! 1 Like |

These your suggestions are very laughable. The well educated, widely traveled and matured Men in Aka Ikenga or Ohaneze Ndigbo can't make this kind of statements. 1) Ethnic groups I Nigeria especially the big ones were created by the BRITISH and they aren't into water tight compartments. 2) It's difficult to say for instance, where Kanuri ends and Manga starts. Where do Ishan/Bini end and Igbo begins? Where does Ikwerres ends and Igbo begins? Where does Ogu (Egun) people ends and Yorubas start? They are many towns/clans in between that clearly overlap or are mixture of both sides (e.g Opobo= Igbo+ Ijaw). 3) Many people we now call Hausas are actually agglumerations of several related and unrelated tribes/clans BUT they have accepted the Hausa tag. Hausa just like the term ARAB is now a super ethnic group. 4) In reality, smaller groups find it easier to asssimilate into larger groups especially in African Countries where Tribal identications are used as basis of sharing resources and giving previledges. pazienza: 1 Like |

What is happening in Lagos and to some extent in Kano are prototypes of what will happen in Nigeria in the next 150 years when most tribes would have merged into fewer super ethnic groups. hammer0: 1 Like |

You must be mistaken me for another person. Families and ethnic groups are inappropriate analogies and even at that you can chose your family sir. The only reason the Ngwa and ezza people are regarded as one with the Nri people is because they accept it and they have the rights to do so. Those who resist this tag also have the right to do so. It doesn't personally affect anybody or groups. I hammer0: 1 Like |

It has nothing to do with the Yoruba or Bini Agenda. That was how every major ethnic group (including Igbos) emerged.I am surprised that you don't know this simple anthropological fact. In 1675, there was no Igbo, Yoruba or Ijaw ethnic groups as we know them now. hammer0: 1 Like |

pazienza:That's were you're showing your naivety. until you stop Igbos from giving them preferential treatment over non Igbo's in marriage matters. Until you stop your govt from making the east pay for their sins while rewarding them as minorities in matters of natural resources. until you make your govt operate a clearly defined ethnic boundary, ethnic population figures not just for indigenous language and cultural preservation, but to ensure that policies have a clearly defined path, then your rants will go unnoticed. These are structural issues designed by fulani govt supported by britain. It should be handled in a reasonable way. BBC held a townhall last year. Bbc Hausa did for north which includes many non Hausa speakers, BBC Yoruba did for sw including Lagos and kwara, while BBC Igbo did for SE and Delta Igbo excluding an Igbo majority Rivers state, which was left to BBC pidgin to conduct. If BBC could do it in Hausa for the entire north without considering other non ethnic hausas, why doing it in pidgin in rivers state were majority speak Igbo? is there any ethnic group in Nigeria that speak pidgin as their first language? why do you think IPOB always call out BBC? They were only acting out a policy handed to them by the British and Fulani govt. A policy targeted at unifying the north and Dividing Igboland. It's called identity politics and its largely (but not entirely) caused by state partitioning instead of state creation. There is a lot of make-belief in politics. Dismantle the Fulani imposed structure which place Igbo's against each other and watch that fizzle away. Your ranting is counter productive. When Northern Sudan saw that self determination in south was gathering pace, Sudan's govt partitioned south Sudan in away that would trigger mutual suspicion among the southern groups as they did in the Eastern region. But dimka the biggest group in the south handled it with tact and today, they are free. This is what I expect to do instead of the emotion laden approach of cutting your nose to spite your face in frustration. |
