The Dark Side Of Keeping The Streets Clean In Rwanda's Capital

That's Lewis Mudge of Human Rights Watch. They have found that Rwanda uses punishing tactics to get clean streets. They've documented security forces killing people for stealing bananas, a cow or a motorcycle. They found that police sweep Kigali for street vendors, street children, beggars and sex workers and send them off to what the government calls rehab centers.

These are horrible places where, in many instances, they're beaten by other detainees. They're kept in unsanitary and unhealthy conditions. There's real questions around women who are arrested with their children and their children being detained at the same time.

https://www.npr.org/2018/06/25/623114826/the-dark-side-of-keeping-the-streets-clean-in-rwanda-s-capital

When you compare yourself with Rwanda, please make sure you are ready to abide by the rules, laws, and tactics the government in Rwanda dishes out to their citizens.

[s]Where is the picture from? I guess the wheelbarrow and kerosene pictures were also manufactured by Buhari looters.

You are just proving my point, you don't see the rot, the disgrace, and sad irony right there under your own nose because you love to play tribalism, bigotry and hatred[/s].

Is there any governor in Nigeria that is as criticized and humiliated as Ikpeazu??
There is no SE governor today that is not being insulted and criticized massively even when some of them are performing above the Nigerian low standard. The difference between Igbos and you guys is that Igbos know that we shouldn't be suffering like this while you all accept it.

Abians wanted Otti yet Nigerian corrupt system foisted the incompetent Ikpeazu on them. We in Imo wanted Ihedioha yet the same corrupt Nigerian system foisted us another incompetent man. The most we can do under such a useless system is to criticize them as well as the terrorist at the center but you guys are so unintelligent that you take it personal.

We will never accept such useless leaders had it been we are in our own country.

Igbos are Democrats and progressives in nature but we are unlucky to be stuck in a useless, rotten and hopeless country where the unfortunate citizens have all accepted to continue suffering and dying in silence but that is one of the reasons we will continue to fight until we leave the sh1thole for you!!

Look at you. Your mumu no get part two. Your leaders keep looting you guys blind and you keep blaming Buhari and the North. As we speak, Enugu Onitsha Road is being constructed, Enugu to PH road has been like that since Buhari's PTF if not NOW that they are working on it. Same with Nsukka through 9th Mile to Onitsha. All these are under construction NOW. Your GEJ that you voted, including this failed Finance Minister as well as Omokri, FFK, Ayim, all those failed leaders, what did they do for you? Buhari ordered the Nigerian Army to buy from INNOSSON and Innoson is now profitable. Innoson owner said he has never had it this good, Anamco too is springing up yet you keep abusing Buhari . Ordinary fire truck, your Governor can not order from Innoson if not this year that he did, whole Onitsha Main market will burn and no fire truck, whatsoever in a market of that magnitude and you keep abusing the North. If your hate and mumuness had not been in the way, maybe you would've voted APC in 2015 and we all will agree PDP is useless and we don't want to see it or hear from these failed thieves that are still talking up till now, then we would've collectively moved forward from PDP in 2015, then this useless APC will not be comparing themselves to failed PDP, then based on performance, we would have collectively moved again from this failed APC to something better in 2019, but your hate, anger, insults and lies, is still keeping us battling between failed PDP and epileptic quarter to failure APC[/s].

Sorry, I couldn't read the nonsense you typed above. Lack of punctuation, no paragraph, and above all, the little I read in the first lines showed it is lacking in intelligence and coherence.

Next please!!

The white man prison is far more decent, organized, safer and humane than the society called Nigerian.
Yesterday I was watching a movie and saw an American prison, it smacked me hard that that prison is cleaner and neater than some part of Lagos called Lekki and the place called Aso Rock. I seriously don’t know why leadership and kindness is such an impossibility in Nigeria. I mean who embezzles money meant to save lives in such a time? Which kind of presidency or leadership turns a pandemic to money making jamboree that they even have to burn down the accountant of the nations office to hide info. It’s sad that even the billionaires are donating money to such government just to show off when that money can be given to small businesses to feed the poor people. Nigeria, we too wowo, just wicked pass alligator

The west is even too far. Just go to other ecowas countries such as Abidjan, Praia, Sal, you'll know that naija is a lost case. If you're in Cape Verde, it feels like you're in Portugal. So beautiful and modern. Meanwhile here in naija, it's a shame

It really doesn't matter where you are as long as you do realize and can use your posts and personal platform to advise Nigerians to obey and abide by the laws of the land if they really want a country where things work instead of sitting around lawlessly while comparing their country with other countries.

We've seen the same Rwanda lovers on NL post pictures of their clean streets in Kigali, but they failed to tell us about the strict laws they enforce in Kigali, the kind of laws that they don't want or like in Nigeria, the laws that they labeled acts of tyranny and war against the poor masses.

In Kigali, you can not hawk anything, you can not do roadside selling you can not even work around aimlessly, they will arrest you and lock you up Are you ready to obey and allow such government actions in Nigeria?

No, Nigerians love to compare, but they are too lawless to over the kinds of laws in those countries.

Nothing you said here is new to me. Besides, it's not like we don't all know what are the ingredients of making a society work so it's not new. Due to our deplorable living conditions, people are not inclined to be law abiding. It's not necessarily about comparison, it's about pointing out the ills of the society and how bad governance has ruined us.

If we share things in Nigeria like this it will definitely lead to fight as many will think they should have more portion. Try this type of sharing formula in Naija we will see the difference.

So you expect a man with 4 wives to share the same portion with a man with one wife. Let's be fair minded.

It didn't take long for you to start defending and making excuses to justify lawlessness.

Poverty and deplorable conditions don't mean you have to be lawless, Rwanda people are mostly poor and rural, more than half of Rwanda have never seen electricity and once you drive out of Kigali city center, everything throughout if the country is rural and poor, but poverty is not an excuse to be lawless in Kigali.

Even if you have no business on the streets of Kigali, they will arrest and lock you up.

Governance is also the people obeying laws. The same laws they put in place to make Kigali look clean are here in Lagos and when they try to enforce it, you scream, you yell tyranny, you shout war against the poor masses.

Before you compare yourself with other people, make sure you are ready to act and behave like the other people you are comparing yourself with.

Governance goes both ways..

If Nigeria had done it like Rewanda and Rewanda like Nigeria, many of you would praise Rwanda and insult Nigeria. Nigerians need to quickly jettison this attitude of elevating everyone above yourselves or your children will loose the ability to think creatively as well as become, in succeeding generations, the footstool of the world for lacking self-esteem.

Jeeze, no mater what rubbish happens elsewhere you people take to looking at it as if it is the most marvellous thing compared to yours. Selfish people, consider your children’s mental wellbeing sometimes, please.

Rightly said.

When you always think others are better than you and you always beneath other people, you've relegated yourself to rubbish, you can not think or progress pas that mentality.

Where is the point in always complaining and whining, but never offering any ideas, inputs and exactly what they can do to make Nigeria great?

It's like we have generations of whinners instead of generations of doers with ideas.

There are leaders doing wonderful things right here in Nigeria, but instead of recognizing their efforts like they do other countries like the Rwanda that they praise all the time, they still insult and abuse them, but if the same thing was done in Rwanda, they'll rush to NL to praise Rwanda.

It's really sad.

We know well that this won't happen in Nigeria if it is what it takes to achieve a sane and clean environment void of lawlessness. However like you wrongly opined, i do not justify lawlessness, i believe that a lawful and sane society is key to many things and unfortunately, we are far from this in Nigeria.

BTW, How long have you lived in Rwanda?
