The last time I spoke to the CFI in ilorin, he said they are desperately in need of instructors

I've contacted the academy in the past and they told me they were not recruiting.

If you can link me up with the instructor in the academy that will be great. Learning from his experience on how he got hired there might give me better of chance of getting recruited too.

Lol, same here.
I wanted to be a pilot growing up, until I realized it cost 7million. Nobody tell me to change plan.

Write to your senator or governor. My cousin was lucky under GEJ era to benefit from such benevolence. I know it is frustrating but keep pushing. You can create a YouTube channel, discuss about aviation. Many Nigerian youth both old and young wish to be in your position. While you wait for a job, you can start a vlog from your home. Stay strong and keep pushing

Those are great ideas. I will do more research on those and hopefully something positive comes out of it.
Thank you

It's easier said than done.

To be a pilot in other countries, you'll need to have work permit / permanent residency or be a citizen of that country to be able to work and secondly, you will have to convert your pilot license to that of that country which also costs a lot of money that I currently don't have...

I am not mocking you bro. You and I know your chances of being a successful pilot and leaving the dream life is higher outside Nigeria. Anyway, I wish you goodluck.

Explorer tried this time but some information are not totally correct and the procedure are not as listed....yes you can fly without being a graduate

I instrument rating is not for novice it for pilot with ATPL.

Also it misleading to include geography as a needed subject..........as I have seen a boy hat applied for geography during jamb registration just because he wanted to go the flight school....

It engineering course one need...mechanical, Electrical et al

To get employment in Nigeria is hard as a pilot as airliners prefers whites

To get sponsorship by airlines is harder....but Bristow is doing great in that regard.
So if u have a degree in electrical engineering, it's that an advantage?
Do it help in anyway

Securing a pilot job in Nigeria is near impossible and I'm saying this as a commercial licensed pilot in Nigeria without a job even after obtaining my certificate of flight instructing and spending millions of Naira (sponsored) on building flight hours.

It feels like it was not worth pursuing and spending all that money on a dream that will be crushed by this country.

Anyone with a pilot job connections should please link me up. Willing to fly any type of plane (type rating required or not)
Why not try the air force.

35 aviation schools in Nigeria Op, where them dey I think you exaggerated a lot in that aspect. Nice thread

According to the source, i think it includes those school offering aviation related courses and not direct flight training.

Do de recruit surveyors? Does shipping companies recruit surveyors? Have been home for too long, really need a job

What kind of surveyor sir?
We have what we call Classification society like ABS, BV, Lloyd register that employs Marine Surveyors who come to the ship for inspection to ensure ships are compliant with International Maritime Organisation / ISM standard before issuing us certificate of compliance.
And you would have worked previously on a ship as either a chief engineer or so to attain that position.

That's a nice one. Is there anyway you can be of assistance to a fresh engineering graduate in getting a job at your work place?

Marine engineer graduate or another course?
Also, do you have STCW and other related certificates?
Which school did you graduated from?

But same calculation courses.

I fear calculations o.. That's what discouraged me from flying and the cost.

Actually, i don't think the calculations are that hard because i see average students passing and graduating, so why not you.

Also, most of our calculation courses are just Navigation, Ship stability, Cargo work and Chart work.
I believe you will survive except the first 2 if you are really bad in calculation.

Not different from what sailors earn and the courses are a bit cheaper than pilots.
I am a second officer and depending on company, certificate and experience you will get between 250k to 2.2m at my level sailing offshore or holding a north to south africa sailing ticket/license

2.2million if you are working with a multinational company with your DP, no indigenous company will pay a second officer even up to that amount...

Indigenous company pays second officer 500k on security boats and may go a bit higher if you are working on PSV or AHTS vessel with DP certificate

Probably because of the training workload......lots of calculations. At least if you can graduate from engineering school, your chance of passing in flight school is high......its not for anything other than that.

Anybody can go to flight school and become a pilot....depend on FAA approval

Your health, vision and logical reasoning are far more important.

You should fly for Pablo Escobar wink lol just kidding. I feel your pain bro. Na what scared me the most in life. Wasting huge amount of money on a particular profession and u end up getting nothing in return as early as possible.

Keep on trying bro. Don't give up

The pay is a bit higher if you are working on PSV or AHTS.... Especially if you have a DP, but that amount is not good enough for an SDPO

Is it an indigenous company?

I know.
I work 6 weeks in/6 weeks out. I work on PSV and AHTS.
I have friends working on Durga Devi earning 55k/day as second mate and 90k/day as chief officer.
I can't come down to working on a security boat bro, up i go, never down.
I was called for a job with Mariteam last year January, 2.1m but unfortunately i was at work and lost the job.
I have a friend who works on Mo Tuncan - 2.1m per month as second.
But on average, the salary of a DP officer second mate roves around 1m
Also, indigenous companies like Awarise, Lahama, Temile etc pays second 1.2-1.4m while chief 1.5-1.8m per month
I'm in the industry and giving you facts even backing it up with company names and vessels.
I have friends working on NLNG tankers, don't let us even talk go there. Those guys are walking in money. International trade and license
