Funny seeing this question just a day after starting the Chernobyl miniseries.

grin grin

It could be very scary watching a nuclear accident. However, even the accident is not anything closer to the risk of living in Nigeria grin grin not to talk of the Covid-19.

Nice article.

But you failed to address the issue of maintenance. You know as well as I do that we have maintenance issues here in Nigeria and Africa at large.

Lets avoid this temptation now until we attain a high level of human resource development... because a little mistake in nuclear power plant regulation can be catastrophic and devastating for us.

Lets not forget the Chernobyl Disaster of 1986 that ultimately led to the fall of ussr (Soviet Union)

*abeg oo we never reach now*

People who can't keep a toilet clean or maintain a stretch of road want to get a nuclear reactor.
Some peole will say outsource the maintinence to foreigners. As if the foreigners will not employ the citizens at some point. That is where the wahala will start because the citizens dont understand the concept of how little things contribute to the big picture

You see, from economic perspective nuclear energy is the big deal, but its management is challenging. It is even more risky in countries with poor maintenance culture and unstable government policies.

Previous corruption is the reason why our power supply is having problems, and it effect is that we don't have enough to drive the economy.

Nuclear power plant is unforgiving, if you allow corruption to affect the plant, it will not only shut down to destroy the economy, people will be destroyed.

But if we allow private sector to pioneer it with strict policy, it has better chance of improved efficiency.

Because you will save up to 300,000 naira in Facebook ads budget, would you fill this form and use our powerful software for free? We will generate a report that will blow your mind in 20 minutes.

Yes with private sector it may be run with effeciency. My concern is the security aspect, will these nuclear materials be properly monitored. Countries with nuclear programs have alot of work to do on management and monitoring of these materials. Besides, we need local content, before it will be implemented we supposed to have a good and robust nuclear energy/power programs (such as Nuclear Chemistry, Nuclear Physics, Atomic Eng'g etc) in our universities in order to provide the needed manpower. One of the most lucrative and highly contested courses in Iran is Nuclear and Atomic Eng'g.
As to proper monitoring and evaluation our intelligence organizations has been so politicised such that it makes it very dangerous to trust them with these very sensitive materials.

i am not sure we are ready for that yet....but i wonder why naija cannot generate revenue from marijuana knowing well that most countries are now legalizing it. We can put control measures on the farming, buy from farmers for export purpose.....Just my thought.

Stop using Nigeria's unpreparedness to compare other nations.
The world is moving forward and we re stuck on politics of North and South, Religion and tribalism.

Honestly. Even some African nations are seriously advancing. Imagine SA of yesterday has set their house in order. They now offer Nigerians scholarships to come and study in their great universities. But you will see youths instead of being ashamed of themselves, proudly say we are not ready.

US have a lot of Nuclear Reactors. Do you even know how many people are in US. Over 300 million. They can't use one source of power.

Do you know the number of nuclear reactors in US alone?

If you think Nigeria will ever get close to electricity stability in the next century without considering Nuclear, then you had better wake up from that slumber.

The whole world should move towards nuclear power while Africa sticks with fossil fuel.

Our carbon emission footprint is minimal compare to the rest of the world.

Ensure any nuclear reactor is not located in crisis prone areas like the North East and North Central

Which one is Russian BN800. What is the technology. Reactors are not called like Aircraft. Mention the country accompanied by the reactor technology.
