UK don't need any palliative. The system covers that as far as you are working/self employed and pay your taxes. We have something called universal credit. Once your income falls short of what you use to earn, all u need is go online and fill the form. Within few days someone from DWP(Dept of Work and Pensions) will give u a call to confirm what you filled on your form. Once confirmed you get paid according to what you filed.
Palliative is for almajiri system.

My fears is that, hope our leaders despite their greeds and selfishness have the common sense not to turn Nigeria into another Zambia.

Zambia were on borrowing spree and now China owns part of Zambia as a result of them not able to service some of their debts and therefore defaulting.

Agreed the UK has a welfare system but it isn't as immediate as you make it.

6 week wait is common. Should you need an advance, it would come in as a loan which must be paid within 12 months.

All of this of course, is for those who have a history of work/tax.

Please don't go there jare, can you compare UK government with ours. Even if they borrow money too they will spend it on the purpose on with they borrow it, but here in Naija, they will steal over 70% of the money into their own pocket. Very soon d next government that will come to take over will na start paying debt they did not incurs and the cycles continues.
