I haven't come across such. My mum is from Edo state and I lived there for 11 years.
Please find out its true. I just finished speaking with one now on phone. His name is chukwuma
He told me they are igbanke but they speak Ika which is the same as agbor.

He told me that that they wished to be in Delta State but it's unfortunate that the powers that be put them in Edo
Just find out and reply me

It's people from outside Edo State trying to Stoke ethnic hate. People of various ethnic and religious backgrounds have co-existed in Greater Benin for centuries. Of which Edo just a small part. I do not know how people foolishly thought naming the state Edo state was wise. Edo traditionally means central Benin City. Not even including Uselu. Whereas Benin was the empire.

Even Gov Obaseki's great great grandfather came from Anioma. But they see themselves as Benin today. In Edo people have the liberty to identify as they want. We do not need outsiders to bring us their tribalism and tribal agenda.
Benin was capital of an empire from 1440 to 1897. Various people brought their talents and settled there.

People like Stella Damasus Aboderin, Ramsay Nouah and many others were born in Benin. It has been a melting pot for centuries.
Ramsay Nouah was born in Lagos to Israel father and Yoruba mother ( from Ondo town in Ondo state). Be guided.

I know many people from Edo State that bear Yoruba names like Ayo, Toyin, Taiwo &Kehinde, Tope, Segun ,even in Benin City.

Prof Ambrose Folorunsho Alli was the Governor of old Bendel State between 1979-1983.
Dele Giwa and Ade Bendel are also from Edo State.
Sure. Some Edo people are Yoruboid.

But then, there are some Yoruba people from Edo state. They are pure Yorubas. They could have as well come from Ondo state. Probably they were so far in Edo state that it was difficult severing them to join Ondo state.

Ignoramus, Edo is not a tribe but a collection of tribes...
Nope. Edo is a collection of Edo sub-groups - Bini, Esan, Ora etc etc. The Yorubas in Edo state are not one of them. They only happen to be part of Edo state... kiss

Abeg do not tell me what I know. Ramsay was born in Benin and his mother is from Owo, not Ondo town. Although both are in Ondo State.

Growing up in Surulere doesn't mean he was born there. People put different places of birth on record in Nigeria, often for political reasons or to avoid tribal discrimination.

Some just put the town they processing their first international passport as their place of Birth.

They just quickly do affidavit there instead of travelling hundreds of kilometers to their actual place of birth. I know dozens of people with official Lagos place if birth but actually we're born in Kwara, Osun, Oyo, Kogi, Rivers, Abia, etc. And get stuck with it.

Even in the days Oluwole people were very active, it made more sense for people in a hurry to process documents putting Lagos.

I know Owo and Benin like the back of my hand. Do your research properly. Haba!
I have nothing to gain from wherever he was born.

States are largely Political creations for administrative purposes.

It's very difficult to determine where one tribe ends and another begins in regions that are within rain forests.

It's only in sparsely populated deserts/Savannah where people live far apart that States can accurately delineate ethnic home lands.

Yes.

There are also many Edos in Ondo State, Ekiti and some towns in Osun States who have now adopted Yoruba identity.

Ondo, yes. Ekiti and Osun no.

Those in Ondo still bear their Edo names and they don't hide their identity just like the Ijaws in Ondo state... smiley
