Since no one will talk about this, i will call it Pride in Humility Disguise (PHD). You could have turned down the offer more politely without stating your travel history. The same person might not want to offer something like that to anyone here in the future.

Let's imagine that as a Nigerian on a Ghanian forum you offer to help a Ghanian that just got admission into unilag and that person replies with.

"Thanks but that is not the help I need, I am familiar with Surulere, Yaba, Ikotun . I have visited Nigeria numerous things with a visitor Visa since age 11(13 years ago) and have relatives there

This would PROBABLY not come off as proud or showy to most Nigerian. Because it is not USA where SOME Nigerian feel only billionaire can visit.

Some of us here did not notice where he said "I am white".

Now imagine giving a shallow answer like " Thank you very much I really appreciate your kind gesture, but I am good".

Who knows such shallow reply MAY have been misinterpreted by the white guy about Nigerian and who know maybe blacks in totality. Hence the need for him to elucidate better.

Although admittedly, the only part of his response that came off as rude TO ME was where he stated "this is not the help I need". Not him outlining the few cities in Texas he has been to and his relatives.

Exactly, funny enough, basic things of life are not thought in school.

Courtesy demands that whenever we are offered something tangible, even when we don't need it, we should make sure we reject it in a way that we don't close doors on others that might need it in the future. It is a simple way of living life

Good day good people,

Please I require help with some decisions. I applied to two schools for master's degree in Technology with a Nigerian CGPA of 4.09/5.0 . Eastern Illinois University and East Tennessee State University. I was given admission by the two school.

For Eastern Illinois University, I wasn't given any funding and the Graduate Coordinator said GA and TA are only given after completing a semester. The total cost for a year is $25,000 plus. $13k plus for Tuition, $2k plus for fees, and $10k plus for living expenses.

For East Tennessee State University (ETSU), I was given a merit scholarship worth $11,500 per year. The total cost is $46k plus. So deducting the $10,500 scholarship I still have a deficit of $35k plus.

ETSU is quite expensive and I was wondering how those who attended the school did it considering a lot of students here have attended the school and a lot recommended it due to their generous funding. I would want to know how they do it or what I am not doing right.

I prefer the Eastern Illinois University though but I don't know how to go about getting funding there to reduce the financial burden considering the difficult time we have now.

Please kindly help me with information and help.

I was about ignoring those comments just to keep peace and focus on the important things .
But you just brought the point and hit the nail on the head. I wonder what I said that was bad initially, even the person I replied to just kept quiet.
I needed an Information on an issue but I got a completely different reply, what else would I say.

I see it as inferiority complex , so because I commented that I have been To US , I am proud But if i have been to Warri or Ibadan 34 times , no one would think I am proud.

Bro thanks for this comment

Hello everyone

Special thanks to all who give very vital information freely, you’re a blessing.

Is there anyone who got admitted to Raws business school at Texas Tech. I need to know how they got funding, especially GA. I just got admitted to the StemMBA. I’m aware of the college scholarship, but haven’t been informed about whether I’m offered.

The Graduate Assistant that I’ve been communicating with didn’t offer enough useful. Is there a way to apply to other departments for assistantships?

Thanks for your anticipated response.

ETSU ET dn't give GA until you reach campus.
Once you reach campus you will be offered with ease.
EIU still fund some guys this fall.
Have you been rejected F1 VISA before?

Thanks for your response. So it is safe to proceed to ETSU without having the said amount? Also, I discovered that even with their GA, the amount I will still pay in fees and health insurance is quite steep.

Please which type of funding did they get in EIU. I applied to MS Technology there too and I was told you have to spend a semester before you can get a GA.

No, I have not applied or rejected for F-1 visa before

The program coordinator responded that the college doesn’t offer GA for masters student. Any suggestions on how I can get a GA from other colleges or departments would be highly appreciated.

Oga Rawl business won't give you funding aside the $1k you may receive from the graduate school, which is general. You have to pay that 20k dollars

EIU gave a GA with little deficits this fall.
Since you have not been rejected before you can book for interview with ETSU if you have a good sponsor & can articulate your points well.
Besides, what is your profile?

Your deficits depend on your department. To have an idea of the tuition break down you need to send e-mail to the international admission office.
