These changes would be great but they wont do it. Buhari's economic policies have proven to be failures. Nigeria consistently had low growth and high rates of unemployment every quarter. The central bank policy was contradictory on its face. You want strong currency that encourages imports. Then you ban goods arbitrarily because you save forex to create jobs.

Lol people will foolishly argue the IMF is turning them into slaves like they forced them take money. Everyone knows the IMF is the lend of last resort. If the country fixed it's economy itself you wouldn't be running cap in hand.
You be mumu I swear, for how long are we going to depend heavily on products we can produce locally. The more we import these products, the more our economy will be in shambles, more foreign exchange will be required to facilitate this transaction and it will render our local currency useless and also wipe out industries that produce similar products in Nigeria thereby creating a huge room for unemployment...

Mumu which one of these products did you become sufficient in due to the import ban. The import ban doesn't address the productivity issues. Are you self sufficient in beef production or are you still importing cows? The import bans also make manufacturing more expensive.

Till today, since 1999 civilian rule started, OBJ government remains the best of all the useless governments that have come and gone. Yes, OBJ government had many flaws but it is by far the best of them all. Same price oil is selling NOW is the same price it sold when OBJ was in power yet he performed better than all these other useless governments combined, especially this ZOohari government that is the worst civilian government in Nigerian history. During OBJ time we know what the naira to dollar exchange was, around 1/3 LESS of what it is today, and he got our foreign debt of billions of dollars cancelled, foreign investors were rushing Nigeria like gold, he built a strong economy that international bodies were eager to invest in, Dangote blow like mad, Music industry blow, commerce blow, agriculture blow, telecoms blow, everything start to gather momentum. I'm sure if Nigerians had seen the future and had known it would be as terrible as this Zoohari government, Nigerians would have approved it for the Senate to keep OBJ in power for 8 terms sef, he would have done far better than this one that loves cows more than human beings. OBJ practiced federal character to the core, he carried every region along, not like this one that is the most tribalistic government we have ever seen in this country.

Rubbish write up.

Our present inevitable predicament is as a result of past misrule by prior govts, including that of OBJ.

Only a stupid economist will compare the present exchange rate with what was obtainable decades ago,to determine better governance.

Perhaps you were referring to the oil price during the military era of Obj and not when he was a democratically elected president.

Even at that,it is quite stupid to assume that oil revenue at the same price of decades ago would
Execute the same value of projects and pay the same amount of salaries and wages of today.

During Obj govt,Nigerian became a major global importer of petrol, instead of exporter. And today, you expect us not to suffer for that mismanagement of our resources.

You still expect a lower or equal exchange rate?
Then you must be a clown.

Also only a stupid economist would conclude that an economy is well managed by using oil revenue to pay up all foreign debt ,in the midsts of serious infrastructural deficiency.

If OBJ had provided 24hr electricity with the monies used to pay up our debt ,would that not have been better than zero debt and zero infrastructure.

Now because of time value of money,we need even greater debt than before,to finance our serious infrastructural gap.

OBj govt could not have done better than Buhari's govt during this period of oil price crashes .

Infrastructure is very key to economic development.

What infrastructure did Obj provide that Buhari has destroyed or not providing?

A borrower has no choice they must comply.

But I feel sorry for the masses, politicians use these funds to enrich themselves, after 4 years it becomes another governments burden and the masses have to grapple with devaluation, reduced purchasing power, higher cost of living and high taxes , too bad.

Stop all these Grammar, nothing good comes easy the best way to improve local production is to ban foreign goods, we can open up when Nigeria economy is sufficient to compete.

Every country passed through a tough time building her economy. If we build our local industries unemployment will reduce. Maybe you're affected by the policy that's why you're angry but any citizen who's not selfish will agree with the ban of 41 items. Let Generator ban comes next. You'll see the drastic change in power sector.

Clown that mumu excuse doesn't explain why all the policies failed miserably. The ERGP projected a 4.5% growth rate, 11% unemployment rate all by 2020. You weirdos just start rambling platitudes when you have nothing reasonable to say. It's clear you didnt read the document before rambling.

Stopping all importation wont achieve the goals you want. Nigeria has to address the structural issues hindering productivity. There's nothing inherently wrong with importing products. Nigeria is already a net exporter.

Telling the government to unban 41 forex items is like asking us to go back to the fays of confusion and lack of focus. Yes, we are not close to where we are going, but we have at least identified, consensually, some of our problems. Just think about it bro, given the high import propensities of Nigerian, dearth of capital, Lilliputian industrial bases, and so on, is this the right time to open our doors to the world? experience has shown that protectionism is a potent tool used by any developing country on it's take off phase but western imperialists and their political economists will not acknowledge this, to sell their products and liberalise for markets to kill their industries, dominate and repatriate capital and returns on equities.

Oga, you are allowing the IMF to deceive you with false statistics. Why don't you present the Egyptian narrative of the economic growth to counterbalance your IMF claims? The consensus in the circles of Political economists is that IMF is a vendor for its western owners and always push for liberalization for imports to outcompete and kill local industries. Where is Egypt today? Ask Ghanaians for their experience. What about Columbia? The stories are the same.

When South Korea used local and foreign capital and facility loans to industrialize in the '70s and '80s, the West attributed the development to the use of neoliberal measures, a claim refuted by the Korean Government. we all read about how Park Chung Hee nationalized the financial powerhouse, power, iron, and steel, and attached death
Indonisia and Malaysia is another prime example. The IMF is nothing but western tool.

Giving soft loans is another factor of improving the economy, but don't allow hate to be cloud your judgement that banning foreign imports won't have positive impact on the economy. Read my post before you quote me ok.

I said Nigeria can open her economy for competition when it's strong at this point we need to close down some things we import. If you take a look at the ingenious companies we've doing well its because they've the resource too compete. If you always carry a child on the back he won't learn how to walk. The only way to generate more cash flow and increase employment is to place ban on the 41 items. Which the Nigerian economy as done. And it's yielding effects on rice production already. Imf policy to remove those ban will only cause a ripple effect on what the Nigerian economy is trying to grow. Yes we need forex. But the only way is by generating more goods for export in which we have a superlative advantage.
For now, it's the oil.. But we have the population and population is power.
I advise the government to copy from China. We need a micro economy country where the power of the economy is on the small scale businesses.
The only way is by banks granting loans to small business owners. The cbn needs to check some of its monentry policies. And pull down the rigged method of borrowing money from the bank

They would rather copy China's law that chains people
