DCmonster:
It's 100 percent possible! I remember back then I naija I had 1.5m in the bank and still earning and I was staying in a 48k per year house and spending only 4k weekly on food. So it's possible it depends on your priority and goals.

How long would it take for him to recoup his investment. That is the point.

how long did it take him to save the 11.4m? was a day, month or year(s)?
or you want him to do forex or flip cash stuffs.
if he can do other business himself, he won't be here asking, but you can do property business with layman's knowledge of it to an extent n be relaxed that except natural disasters or carelessness from occupants are the only things that can ruin it.
like I said earlier, property business will give you income for lifetime provided right decisions are made n u not greedy in your dealings.

Please how much is the interest every month if someone invest 1m .Thanks.

Interest rates unfortunately have crashed, last time I heard it was below 3%per annum. You can check with your bank.

A better alternative for now would be savings accounts, GT for example is about 4% pa.
4% on 1m = 40k per annum, divided by 12 is ~3k every month.

I lived around akodu street in mushin, Lagos then. I often did my shopping at mushin market. Like I said, it depends on your priorities/goals.

You have not answered the question. Is he investing to have proceeds or investing to make profit? These are two different things. Don't tell me that you don't know landlords that are poor. This is excluding the fact that he would need to maintain the house and battle with stubborn tenants who refuse to pay. He should diversify his investment now. How can you advise him to use the chunk of his money to build house that would not even bring in N3m annually?

Or you invest it into treasury bills which can pay you about 10% every 3 months or so. That is about 1 million naira every quarter or about 300k monthly.

Your money still remains intact.

That's the last information I received regarding treasury bills unless they have changed.

This is incorrect. The 10% you mentioned is an annual rate not a quarterly one. Secondly the rates have fallen drastically

Save your money and continue hustling.
Open a domiciliary account and save your money in dollars, euros or pounds never save in Naira.

Of truly you want get sense get it now. How can you be asking such a question. Tell me how keeping the cash in the bank will help achieve your dreams and expectations in life. You still remain a squat and that you will still remains. Investing in property has been the trending thing for every sensible person who desire growth in life. I advise you invest right to avoid the story that touches. Money deprecate, but lands don't because it belongs to the family of assets. So he that have ear let him hear unless you are not telling us the truth.

Or you can make the money work for you and build the house for “free”

I am in the same dilemma; my house will cost about 18-22m and I’ve got 10m set aside

I’m going to invest this in an fx trading platform that I know that will net me 20% monthly. Note that I know at least 5 people who have been on this platform for months.

With the initial 6month interest, I will net 12m, withdraw the 10m and finish up OR leave the 10m for a year and let my investment complete the house...

There are risks but no risk no reward!!

My own advice is, buying land and building houses in Nigeria comes with a lot of risk...

Government can take possession of house and land with C of O,

Just be careful guy!

I wouldn't want to argue or trade words with anyone.
only the discerning knows and they have gotten what I am saying here. if you know how real estate works, then n only will you know he can double or triple that amount within a short while without loss and possibly won't be upto a year.
ask if you don't know and you get the knowledge from those that knows.
a poor landlord from your village or where?
u still tag he/she as a landlord right? n u still use the word poor, because they ant driving Bentley or gwagon?
come out of your confinement n widen your scope sir.

covid2019:
I am in a dilemma worsened by this covid19.

I am a graduate male of 29 residing in the East. I still squat with a friend, not because I don't have money for house rent. But principally because I have been unable to figure out what I want to do with my life, hence renting a house feels like a commitment that might get me stuck.

I always feel I might move anytime soon-- to either another state or abroad for masters or just practice of my profession. Note that I didn't study a STEM course.

All these while squatting, I have been saving via my proceeds from hustles.

In the wake of this COVID19, I checked all my banks and found out that money I have in my account has lost so much value given the dollar rate.

I have 11.4 million, inclusive of my working capital, plus a rickety car valued at 350k. Each time, I need just 3-5m as working capital.

It seems that trying to save more is false economy and might be counter productive.

NOW, I AM CONSIDERING buying a plot of land and erecting a small house even if it's 3 rooms. This, I think will serve as investment that will keep appreciating and also serve as residence.

Or just open a domiciliary account to hedge against naira fall and continue saving.
What do you think please?

Don't build yet please!
Buy land in a very nice area, if you can get 2plots that are together then buy it. After the land purchase erect your fence so as to secure your perimeter.

After you might have gone through these, you'll definitely find a big hole in your capital so just continue with your hustle and safe more money.

I presume you are not been disturbed where you are squatting so that serves as an added advantage for you to save up.
Get you land first, hustle more and safe up. In no distance time you'll would have figured out what you wanna do with yourself.
