Somebody just laid his/her hand on the list of Access and posted this for whatever reason.

Some of the branches here are cannot be closed. You can quote me.

UNILAG branch with a balance sheet size of over 1 billion and where there is no Diamond branch?

Lol, I've been laughing all this while, people believe anything they see online.. Access bank does not even have up to 800 branches across Africa so I wonder how they will close almost 350 in Nigeria alone.
There's process to everything, by now even the MD will need lots of consultation before making any decision not to talk of publishing one rubbish list

Nigerian financial power house, Access Bank, annunciated the closure of more than 300 of its branches nationwide in a bid cut down running costs as a result of the outbreak of the deadly virus, COVID-19.

This move comes in the wake of a statement made by the group managing director/CEO of Access Bank, Herbert Wigwe who explained the reasons behind a planned mass retrenchment of its workforce, stating that some of its branches will be closed up until December of this year.

Herald NG earlier reported that Wigwe made this disclosure via video conferencing in a town hall meeting with the bank’s staff that later leaked on social media platforms.

Wigwe noted that those to be affected by the mass retrenchment are mostly outsourced staff and workers offering nonessential services. This group makes for about 75% of the Organisation’s staff strength in its branches nationwide.


“We probably don’t need as much security as required; even to the fact that we are not gonna have all our branches open between now and December. We don’t need all the tellers.” Wigwe said in the video.

“The second has to do with our professional cost. Now that is one that is very tricky and it is tricky because I do understand and appreciate that its gonna, you know, bring its own pain to staff.

“We basically have to make the adjustments the same way you sounded when we spoke 10 days ago with respect to basically cutting down cost.

“I will be the first to take the hit and I’m gonna take the largest pay cut, which would be as much as 40 percent. The rest we would have to cascade right through the institution. Everybody may have to make some adjustments of some sort.”

Industry observers have the notion that Wigwe’s retrenchment strategy and closure of its branches affects the most vulnerable of his employees. They also believe the move will be counter-productive for many families; especially the poor if the financial records of the bank truly show it has the capacity to cushion the effect of the pandemic.

Because I am one of their pos agent in my office. I have alot of money with them.

This news sound unreal to me because almost all their branches in my area is listed there.

I haven't sleep well since last night I saw this news. I am just thinking about my money there.

Not entirely true, this is business not silly Nigerian politics, he is simply cutting underperforming branches.
The branch on old aba road where i bank is quite small in size and was formally diamond bank but if u go there on a monday morning, the mad deposits you'd see there ehhh .
And guess what? It wasn't touched but the Original Access bank less than 100m away on Aba road has been shut down for a long time now!

So sorry for those that will loose their jobs. And the few that doesn’t use internet banking. Getting money out of access bank will be a bit harder.
I think first bank will get more customers now.

I totally agree with you, how do you explain the rationale behind closing Diamond /Access on Admiralty way Lekki and keep Access bank branch on Admiralty Road Lekki.. Admiralty way is more strategic for business than Admiralty Road

You are saying nothing but the truth. In 2012, I witnessed what Access Bank did to the then Intercontinental Bank staff whom they acquired after buying the bank. They preserved their core staff but issued sack letter to the inherited Intercontinental Bank Staff.

The staff should already know this by now going by trend and they should have by now intensified alternative plans. Without the Covid they would have been gone in phase.
