Ok thanks

I am sure they don’t write the name of the sponsor on the I-20, they usually write "Family funds" and not the name in the SOA, same applies to so many other schools.

With the way most schools here are already proposing online classes for fall semester. It seems till next year spring before people can be able to really come in to the US to study face to face.

Well, we will see how it all goes. No conclusions yet.

I kinda enjoyed the later part of this semester being online tho smiley

All the very best to everyone in the process.

Some thoughts, even if corona is contained by individual countries before fall, international travel looks unlikely till a vaccine is found and guaranteed it cures which looks like next year, airlines can’t afford to social distance on plane as the cost will be too high and individuals would be paying more than 50% of the normal cost, schools would then be forced to start fall online, now most international student moving to the USA are depending on GA and tuition waivers to attend, if there isn’t a physical class, GA,RA TA and university works looks unlikely, schools would be slashing their fees most definitely as they aren’t offering full services anymore, so tuition for 5k per semester might go for 3k, Most people were banking on GA and some sort of scholarship. Who has a better understanding?

Hey guys,

I was recently admitted into Washington state university, Vancouver's Ms in electrical engineering program. In the offer letter, they said "assistantship is not available at this time".

Is there anyone currently in the school or anyone that knows how well this school offers GA? I don't know if I can still push them even with what the wrote in the letter. Any help would be appreciated.

What is your profile?

online or in-person, GA, GTA and GRA position will always be available. The problem is that, you can't get paid without SSN, which means you need to be here physically to get your name in the payroll. Also you need to be trained to be able to perform your duty.

Hello house,
I got admitted for masters to Hood college(no funding), Emporia state uni($8k yearly funding), southeast Missouri ($2k merit scholarship). Because of covid19, Southeast proposed optional web only class for Fall semester then on campus for the next semester in spring, web only has a lower tuition of $3k plus for 9 credits whilst campus is $5k plus, my concern is this:
If I go by the web class, would it boost my chances for a visa since I would have earned credits and already a full time student?
I would be traveling with a 5 year old. Is it going to be easy for a grad student with a child? In terms of my classes and his school timing, shared accommodation, etc. please house I need practical and real life responses especially from people already schooling who have classmates with kids and whose spouses did not accompany. Thank you house

For the visa, it's all about how you present your case at the interview. Though having an excellent first semester result might help. Studying online from Naija defeats the whole point of having the US experience in my opinion.

For your child, email the international office at the University for more information regarding elementary schools closeby. Though it all comes down to having sufficient funds for the school fees, daycare for whenever you are busy at school, health insurance and possibly having a car for ease of movement. Sure, you can manage fine with your child. All you need are sufficient funds and patience with your child as he also tries to adapt here. If you have family here, that would also be very helpful.

Be properly guided. MTSU needs WES evaluation. University of Alabama and Houston are high schools to break in, unless you've got a good profile. BGSU has gotten lots of applications for Fall 2020. Most departments don't need more applications because they are full. Mail before you apply there.

Also look at University of New Haven, some departments waive GRE.............. Also.............University of Texas Rio Grande Valley............ Illinois Institute of Technology...........University of North Texas etc.

If they can waive GRE and application fee, please do they also originally waive TOEFL for applicants from Nigeria?

Did yo apply for the department's GA separately after applying for graduate school?

Did you use WES evaluations or just uploaded unofficial transcript?

What is your CGPA and GRE scores.

there is no way no international travel till next year. Some airlines and airport are already preparing to start operation. What will happen will be screening at the airport and full activities will resume when countries start to show zero infection rate. Australia airlines started some operation , I think same as New Zealand. For the Vaccine, don't bank on next year because that is a probability. Infact there is all possibilities that a vaccine won't even come or will come later, does it mean no one will travel again in the world. There would be measures to live with this covid, it has come to stay and it will be curtailed and mitigated with time. Many schools are also assuring students that fall will still happen or worse case scenario will be a defer or online classes for the first few months. US schools and US as a whole is very dependent on International students with the investment and money they bring in. As you can see Trump is trying to rush ways to open up the country so that the economy will be back to normal. As infection rates drop and cases goes to almost zero, nations will start resuming normal activities but with control measures. The world is going to learn to live with it because you can't bank on a vaccine. The politics and intricacies of vaccine are so much that there is no certainty for that. Moreover not all virus infection do have vaccines, sometimes vaccine trials do fail or go for years before it is achieved. So saying the world will wait for vaccine before activities starting is not just feasible because no one can tell when it will happen. The 18 months estimate is like the shortest time possibilities as best case scenario. You would ask what of those already given GA,RA, TA with full funding. And you know these are contracts which you have signed so the school has no right to rescind them

Thank you so much, this is helpful and assuring.
Pls I would like to ask how easy it was/is for Nigerian students who switched course pathways in graduate school. For instance, I am from construction background but switching to IT. I am very certain I can study, cope and pass well in any field under sane conditions but sometimes I try to wonder if lack of previous experiences would limit me in any way. I have offers for Computer science, Cybersecurity, Information systems and Information technology. Which of these would you consider marketable in the USA or in any part of the world? Which do you also think is easiest to switch to for someone without a previous experience? Thank you

Very true the United State have very much dependence on funds coming into the country internationally which includes student F1, Vacation(tourist Visa) and all that which will also needed to kickstart the country’s economy back. The visa application fee for over 15 million student ain’t small then ranging to the Ticket if its their airline plane and also the fee most international students pay. But what do we know maybe some few things, if China, Aussie, Denmark could begin operation already which is little as we know the United will also we’ll just have to live with it.

The only problem we might have is if you’re going to the United State from Nigeria . WHY When most of those countries are recovering I don’t think Nigeria will, with the propaganda and lies they are just dishing out No country will want to take in people from hotspot location or people that do not know the real figure of the casualties and the rate of infections in their countries cus this might bring in another wave of infection so they might then put a travel ban on us for the mean time

Why wasting your time trying to book an interview date when the embassy cancelled dates chosen by people before closing of the embassy?

Don’t be faster than your shadow or in a haste to book interview date. Wait until the embassy announce they are opening up for business before booking your interview date.
