Please first and foremost, pls scan the car and let me have the codes.
But in a situation of that, check the transmission fluid
After that the other issue can be the Vehicle Speed Sensor, but rarely.

Ple scan and let me know the code

Have you scan it for any hidden fault codes?
Then I need physical inspection sir to check the fluid and color before we go further to get to the root of the problem.

Thanks

That is an engine problem sir and not tranny.

Why don't you ask your mech to check and rectify sir. Then about the tranny issue I will need a physical inspection.

Thanks

Check engine mounts(engine seats)

Don't understand what you meant by changing the engine to a V6, what engine was there before?

That was why I said physical inspection. Most people description does not give true picture of the problem

Mechanics dey try

Especially these online mechanics that try to proffer solutions online. I read some complaints and can't comprehend only to read possible solutions by mechanics then understand what the person was saying initially.

It is a good buy if and I quote if?
First take an Auto Technician to inspect the car and let the Technician give you full report of the car.
Two from your point of view never conclude a car is good especially a naija used car...
After inspection the report I give to you will determine the negotiation power.
So look sir before you leap

Thanks a lot for your swift response. The inspection is already done and that's where it was shown it needs brake pad and tie rod repairs. My major problem is the mileage. With a total mileage of 212000km, would you say the life span is still good?
Thanks

At that mileage did your mechanic run a scan on the vehicle?
At that mileage you need to assess the Engine so it has not been tampered with, in the sense of replacing the engine totally or partially or shorting oil?
What about the transmission
Brother at the mileage you need to be careful..

Sir, the gear shift needs work according to the report. Then the only thing with the Engine is that it has Oil Sludge. Is that a serious problem?

The level of the sludge will determine the risk to the Engine.

Truthfully that price is too much for the mileage

How To Make The Right Choice Of Engine Oil For Your Car

There are many choices when it comes to picking the appropriate oil for your car’s engine. We are going to educate and guide you to break down your choices to help you in the quest to change your oil.

Identifying The Right Choice Of Oil For Your Vehicle

All car’s owner’s manual will list the recommended oil weight, but for most cars in Nigeria the best way to identify the oil specification for your car is to check the top oil cover of your vehicle for the specification.

There are two character service designation on the container of each engine oil.
There are APIU and SAE
The API – The American Petroleum Institute latest service standard is SL. SL refers to group of laboratory and engine tests, including the latest series for control of high-temperature deposits.
SAE - The Society of Automotive Engineers provides a number of global standards in many fields including cars and trucks, petroleum, aerospace and others. SAE assures that a key automotive item – oil – is standard across the globe.
These are the labels you’ll find on every Engine oil Container of reputable motor oil.
The API tells you if the oil meets the current SL service rating (C for diesel engines).
The SAE provides the Viscosity number and tells you if the oil has passed the energy conserving test.

Viscosity
Viscosity means a fluid’s resistance to flow. In motor oil, it’s rated at zero degrees Fahrenheit (Represented by the number preceding the “W” [for winter]) and at 212 degrees (represented by the second number in the viscosity designation).
Example 10W-40 When the engine is running, the second number (40) in 10W-40 tells you that the oil will stay thicker at high temperature than one with lower number like 30, 20. What’s really important is that you use the oil viscosity recommended for your car.
NOTED: Motor oil thins as it heats and thickens as it cools. Within reason, thicker oil generally seals better and maintains a better film of lubrication between moving parts.

Also, if the oil is too thick, the engine requires more energy to turn the crankshaft.

Types of Motor Oil
Premium Conventional Oil
This is the standard new car oil. All leading brand have different service level (SL) available in different viscosity, it come s in 5W-20 or 5W-30 oil, particularly for lower temperatures. With a 10W-30 oil as optional, particularly for higher ambient temperatures.
These 3 ratings cover just about every light-duty vehicle on the road. Even more important, though, is changing the oil and filter regularly at 4000miles/four (4) months interval is good practice.
The minimum is twice a year.

Full Synthetic Oil
The oil is made for high-tech engines, mostly Mercedes Benz which are mostly Full Synthetic and American cars. These oils has been passed through stringent tests (Indicated by their labelling), it means they have superior, longer lasting performance in all the critical areas, from viscosity index to protection against deposits. It flows better at low temperatures and maintain peak lubricity at high temperatures.
Apart from the fact these oils are expensive they do not meet most engine required features.

Re: Mechanic Roundtable by Blackbishop(m): 2:47pm On May 08, 2020
Synthetic Blend Oil
These have a dose of synthetic oil mixed organic oil, and overall are formulated to provide protection for somewhat heavier loads and high temperatures. They are less volatile like our filling station measured oil, so they evaporate far less and increases fuel economy.
Examples of Synthetic Blend oil 5W-20 | 5W-30 | 10W-30 | 10W-40

Higher-Mileage Oil
Once you have a car with mileage more than 75,000 miles on Odometer, these oils are recommended for these vehicles. The higher-mileage oils are formulated with seal conditioners that flow into the pores of the seals to restore their shape and increase the flexibility. These oils have high viscosity, they seal piston-to-cylinder clearance better and won’t squeeze out as readily from the larger engine bearing clearance. They may also come with high dose of antiwear additives to try to slow the wear process.
The best high-Mileage for 2020
• Castrol 06470 GTX (Fights Sludge & Prevents Wear & Tear) ...
• Royal Purple 11744 HMX (Excellent for Cold Temperatures) ...
• Amazon Basics AM53BH3Q (Value for Money) ...
• Valvoline 782482 10W-40 (Prevents Your Seals from Leaking) ...
• Mobil 1 45000 5W-30 (Premium Grade Oil for Cold Temperatures)

Oil Additives
Use of additives is another approach to improving and maintaining oil performance. High engine temperature combined with moisture, combustion byproducts, rust, corrosion, engine-wear particles and oxygen to produce sludge and vanish. Additives do not only provides good lubrication but also helps to reduces sludge and vanish and any damage from their formation.
Categories of key Additives And Importance
• Viscosity-Index Improver – reduces the oil’s tendency to thin with increasing temperature
• Detergent – To remove some deposits, primarily solids. But the main purpose is to keep the surfaces clean by inhabiting the formation of high-temperature deposits, rust, and corrosion.
• Dispersants – Disperse solid particles, keeping them in solution, so they don’t come together to form sludge, varnish, and acids.
• Antiwear Agent – They protect the metal surfaces; when lubricating films breaks down, the antiwear protect the surface.
• Frictional Modifiers - They reduce engine friction and so can improve fuel economy.
• Pour-Point Depressant – Just because the 0 degree F viscosity rating is low doesn’t mean the oil will flow readily at low temperatures. Oil contains wax particles that can congeal and reduces flow, so these additives are used to prevent it.
• Antioxidants – They are needed to prevent oxidation (and Therefore Thickening) of oil.
• Foam Inhibitors – The crankshaft whipping through the oil in the pan causes foaming. Oil foam is not as effective a lubricant as a full-liquid stream, so the inhibitors are used to cause the foam bubbles to collapse.
• Rust/Corrosion Inhibitors – Protects metal parts from acids and moisture.

Do not forget to purchase the right and recommended oil for your cars

Hello brother,
I need advise on my 2007 ford explorer. water entered the gearbox thru the coolant in the radiator. the gear oil and radiator were replaced but it became worse off for it. sometimes i will engage but it wont respond till after some seconds. sometimes it responds very aggressively and shakes the car badly. sometimes it vibrates before shifting to gear 2. sometimes it makes a rubbing noise similar to that of a bad axle. and sometimes it cant climb a hill from rest. do you think i need another gear box?
thx

Good day sir, please scan the the transmission to know if an error code comes up?
But from your narration I can conclude that the coolant entered into your tranny and with that you are having buildup in your tranny, check the sensors and the valve and filter for blockage.

Don't forget to scan sir.

Simple diagram of how your tranny works

Re: Mechanic Roundtable by GBOYEBABA: 6:55am On May 15, 2020
Thanks Bishop. I have an issue with my 2009 Honda accord V6, my technician just changed the piston rings because of the blue smoke that was coming out from the tail pipe. But as we speak now, the car is yet to start. It's just rolling and d mechanic said the needs a very strong battery so that it can gain pressure once. The work was done on Wed.
Blackbishop:
Vehicle Exhaust Colors And What They Mean

Color plays important role in both driving and auto maintenance. Just as when driving gren means go or good, yellow mean caution or slow and red means stop or danger. Just like we discussed the importance of your dashboard lightings and their level of importance, so what does the color of your vehicle exhaust means?

Here is a list of four (4) different exhaust colors and what they could mean(This is mainly for gasoline engines)

1. Light or Thin White Exhaust Smoke
This is consider normal to most Nigerian car owners or drivers, when the exhaust coming from the tail pipe of your vehicle is light or thin white. This is just mainly water vapor. You will notice it when you first start your vehicle, especially on cold days. The reason for this exhaust is that condensation collects naturally in the exhaust system. This common in all gasoline vehicles.

2. Blue or Gray Exhaust Smoke
This is not normal for any vehicle to have an exhaust blue/gray smoke coming from the tail pipe. This type of exhaust usually indicates that you have an oil leak and the engine is burning oil. Most likely caused byan oil leak, such as worn cylinder wall, leaking valve seal, or damaged piston rings.

When you have blue smoke at acceleration, the problem is most likely with the piston rings.

If its during acceleration, the blue smoke like indicates that the cylinder head valve guides are damaged.

In either case your auto technician attention is needed for proper diagnosis

3. Black Exhaust

This is another bad indicator for your vehicle. Black smoke indicates that your vehicle is burning too much fuel. Several things could cause this to happen, like a blocked manifold, clogged air filter, a malfunctioning fuel injector system, amongst many other possible problems.

4. Continual, Thick White/Gray Exhaust Smoke

A continual stream of white/gray colored exhaust smoke from the tail pipe of your vehicle is not normal and likely means you have a leaking Head gasket. Which is making the coolant making its way into the combustion chambers and blown out the exhaust as the engine starts. In conclusion this is an indicator of overheated engine.
Another possible cause will be a craked cylinder head or block, both of which are serious problems that needs correcting right away.

Ignoring any sign coming from your exhaust could result in very expensive damage.

We just dont repair, we care.
