if there are no people, then there is no economy..you see while it's true that the lockdown will harm the economy but have you ever consider no-lockdown can cause even more havoc

1. if we allow the virus to ravage our population we start to lose a big part of the working population which are the driving force of this economy which you want to save.

2. if people are dropping dead on the street in large numbers do you think people will still go to work, do you think its because of excessive force in Italy that's making people stay indoor or the fear of there lives.

3. this is a new virus that has no cure or vaccine, and we just getting to know how deadly it is.

don't you think trying to reduce its spread as much as possible is a wise decision?

when You Understand Economy Then You Will understand Why It Is More Dangerous to Halt Economic Growth

You are damn funny, Did you just say use facemasks? Don't you go out on the streets to see how non compliant Lagosians are? A lot of people do not value their lives thereby putting the lives of those who value their lives at risk!

The only language Nigerians understand is "Force" we gotta learn the hard way , we have sworn to be defiant and non compliant then we have to be locked up once again so as to protect those who are vulnerable from getting infected !

You also talk about the economy! Awww what a kind way to show how much you love the economy, ECONOMY MY FOOT! T
The economy u love so much is being manhandled by the ruling elits who plunder and loot from the proceeds of the economy, while the poor man on the street is left to die!

My parting words to you seun DO NOT WORRY SO MUCH ABOUT THE ECONOMY BECAUSE WHEN THE ECONOMY GOES DOWN , GOVERNMENT KNOWS HOW TO REVIVE THE ECONOMY, WORRY ABOUT YOUR LIFE AND THE LIVES OF THOSE YOU LOVE BECAUSE WHEN THEY ARE LOST, GOVERNMENT HAS GOT NO CLUE ON HOW TO REVIVE THEM.

A HEALTHY LIFE IS A HEALTHY ECONOMY!

The rich are doing just fine,
the poor will surely die because you have taken away what sustains them,
The Govt dont create anything, they only regulate, where you dont create food, there will be no food, even if the govt gives you checks every month, its pointless cos production has been halted.

The Economy, why you guys are clueless on the impact of the economy on human existence is alarming. The UN has already warned that they will BIBLICAL FAMINE if the lockdown continues.

Covid 19 affects the elderly and people with pre-existing medical conditions, does it makes sense then to lock the young and healthy away?
So because 100s of people die of car accidents every month they should lockdown all the cars?

If you too scared and lily-livered to leave your house then stay indoors, its not by force. Leave people that are willing to take the risk that want to venture out and feed their families to it.

Am sure you are well fed thats why you can type all this, but have you stopped to look at the bigger picture? If the Govt goes into recession they will not be able to save any body, the rich will simply relocate to another country, the poor will remain here and face the music.
You simply are not knowledgeable on what you are talking about.

A lockdown is the most brainless way to fight the Coronavirus. Our leaders need to use their wits and imagination to figure out better, smarter ways.

We cannot afford to wreck the economy by locking it down. If we wreck the economy then where will we get the money needed to fight the virus?

Yet, we cannot afford to allow lots of people to get sick and be killed by the virus. The fear of being infected is enough to wreck the economy.

The only way forward is to use face-masks and enforce science-based infection minimization rules to protect lives and also protect the economy.

It is crucial to understand that, as a poor country with a large population, we don’t have the luxury of choosing between saving lives and saving the economy. We must get people back to work, and we must keep them safe.

Better still, allow a lot of the useless population to die!

In today's world it is brainless to be poor and overpopulated at the same time!

You would be surprised that my work is to deal with malnourished children, but we have to put things into perspective here. If someone has diabetes it can be managed, they can't spread it to others and it takes a long time to die from it without management.

With Covid-19 you have about a month or so to live or die if it gets bad, even with the best hospitals the chances of survival after requiring ventilation is 50/50.

If it was Boko Haram killing people on the streets no one would dare to step outside, yet because the killer can't be seen it is not given the appropriate respect.

I just hope the cure/vaccine comes out soon because I never trust people to listen to directives.
Get your facts right, stop lying here, about 90% of infected Covid patients survive, you people should stop using false information as basis of your conclusions on here...do you know that depression, anxiety, hunger kills more...talk with sense, many things kill a man and most arise from hunger and malnutrition, boost your immune system, or stay indoors if you cant wear mask.

Think about you and your family.

Why are you talking of what happened a 100 years ago, when we have current data and very goood insights into the characteristics of this virus, it is nowhere as deadly as Ebola, if it were so the proverbial corpses on the street would be taken place now, data suggests that even in the worst climes this covid 19 has a low morbidity rate, in fact according to NCDC 80 percent of infected individuals will show no symptoms while 97 per cent will recover by themselves even without any drugs... the question is “Is it worth destroying the largest economy in Africa over... THINK SOMALIA, it is when you have a full stomach that you will care about corona, have u ever seen a baby die of hunger? You will know that there are worst things than corona... in Venezuela bank managers were eating from the refuse dumps...Nigeria that cannot revive NEPA for donkey years can not revive a dead economy, the economy is not something to toy with any how!
This is an emerging disease and we have to thread carefully. Let’s not throw the baby away with the water in the tub. It is a frustrating and disappointing situation to be in for many, however we must not drop our guides. There have been several instances of new outbreaks in places that opened too early. Examples include Wahun China, South Korea and Germany.
Remember a few of the initial myths about this virus that have been naturally debunked? it can’t survive in African, it can’t affect black people, it can’t affect young people etc.
Some of the concerns regarding this novel disease is that not a lot is known about its nature. Scientists are still struggling with undestanding and are learning the disease process.
Just of recent did we learned that assymptomatic people could transmit the virus.
Just of recent did we learned that even after treatment, people could be reinfected.
Just of recent did did we learned that children are showing signs of syndrome that might be related to the virus
Just of recent did we learn that it can survive on a surface for about three days.
There is no prove yet that people would acquire immunity after being cured of the virus.
So, we can’t afford to throw caution in the wind, because of what to eat because only the living do eat.

The problem is Nigerians don't adhere to rules that will help save this so called Poor country. In as much as the poor masses don't want another lockdown, it's not so difficult to adhere to safety measures that will keep us all alive cos there is no struggle for the dead and we can't fend for our families when we are all dead. Government should think critically and decide wisely. It's not a decision that should be subject to an online voting.

Over 3mn data gathered from over 250 countries cannot be wrong, this virus is emerging agreed, we have to thread carefully agreed, but locking snd opening up the economy at will, can only achieve 2 things 1. Allow the virus to spread faster within the community, with lowered immunity as a result of inactivity coupled with the fact that Nigerians will only observe the lockdown in breach, settle policemen and continue your waka, large crowd keeping vigil as a result of one million boys etc you can imagine the consequences 2. Kill the economy, massive job losses, a lot more people dying of hunger, diseases because of lack of money to buy drugs or take a transport to hospitals, chaos, violence, suicide, domestic violence, psychosis(a lot of Nigerians are suffering from this but are suppressing it with drugs, many of these people have not been able to access their drugs for a while now) imagine the overall risks.

Cutting off the head is not an effective cure for headaches, no death is better than others, countries that refused to lockdown are not doing worse than those who did, states like Kogi and cross river that defied the others are not witnessing corpses on the street as doomsday prophesy implied. Lets not cut off our nose just to spite the head!

It's simple the country should be opened, those who want to stay indoors are free to, and those who want to work should also be allowed to... hunger, unemployment, mental instability which may lead to Anarchy kills too.

Typhoid, malaria, hepatitis, etc, have been ravaging a lot of people for decades in Africa, yet the country wasn't locked down for this.

Why didn't the government lockdown the country and fumigate, when malaria was and is ravaging both, the old, young and infants. Probably that's because it affects mostly the poor who mostly live in slumpy areas filled with mosquitoes and bad water.

Scientifically, typhoid and malaria is even more deadly than this coronavirus... But of course we know how the 'Corona virus saga' have been generating some billions... So spread the fear and figures and keep the billions coming... embarassed embarassed

Enforcing face-masks is easy. When people leave the house, there are places they want to go. Markets, stores, offices, motor-parks, public transport, banks, atm kiosks, etc. Govt can simply instruct the people running those places to deny access to people not wearing face-masks.

In Imo state, it was sounded on the radio twice and also this morning that any cab driver who carries a passenger who is without a face mask, will have his cab confiscated and might not see it again whether or not the cab driver is wearing a face mask. Tbh, most cab drivers are complying because no one wants their source of living taken away from him.

That's lazy governance. If some people are not compliant with the rules, advice them, assist them, and arrest them if they still don't cooperate. Under no circumstance should a government punish the innocent along with the guilty. People following precautions must be allowed to work.
True.
