From the picture below, you can see that, as at 1914, Britain was literally sustaining and developing Lagos with proceeds from oil palm export. Oil palm proceeds alone was more than a combination of proceeds from all other commodities
Your list looks distorted

Oil was added after total was accounted for

Why?

No one has reminded them that it took Azikiwe's pressures for a university for Nigeria, in his meeting with Arthur Richards in 1946, that led to the cobstitution of the Eliot commision and subsequently the founding of the University College, Ibadan.

Sometimes I don't like arguing all these trash.

I have in time past, research critically and dottingly through awolowo history, times and past and couldn't dig up anything.

Everything you see been spread as awolowo achievement are just paper revisionist that if Awolowo mistakenly come back to life again, he will be suprised as to what his names are been attached to...

The case of Awolowo was the case of Aristotle who penned his name down in every book in Egyptian library that after years you will see Aristotle's name in biology, agriculture, Medicine, physics[Philosophy], earth science, history, Agriculture, numbers and a whole lots and loads of work...This same Aristotle died at 58 years or thereabout with all these achievement in nearly all fields of life....HOW POSSIBLE IS THAT?

Not possible because it was all lies and action taken by same Aristotle in Egypt by appending his name to everything in Egyptian library.

So that's the case of Awolowo, where his people are just trying hard to put him in and justify it by saying yes we once has great men( Who actually never existed)....Yes such never existed.

When the Europeans esp British was making Afrcan revolutionaries, training them thinking they were creating men who will be subservient but didn't know they were creating future agitators for freedom of Africa name like OBAFEMI AWOLOWO never surfaces or rears its head... whereas names like Leopold sedar senghor, Felix Houphouet
, Nnamdi Azikiwe, Tafawa Balewa, Ahmed sekou Toure, modibo keita, Augustine Nieto, Almicar cabral, , Eduardo mondlane, Malema kanbarage Nyerere, kamuzu Banda, David kaunda, Kenyatta, Nkrumah even notorious Ahmadu Bello were in one way or the other mentioned.

It is only in Nigeria- western theory that names like Awolowo always crops up from nowhere.

So it is no coincidence that tales revolving around Awolowo are just fabricated.

Before Awolowo embarked on his ambition for the office of
Federal Prime Minister, he was keen as ever on putting this region
(Southwestern) on a sound economic footing as a major player
in industrial and commercial concerns.

He raised the minimum
wage of workers from the 5 shillings of 1954 to five shillings and
sixpence on April 1, 1959. He incorporated the Western Hotels
Limited which invested in the building of the majestic premier
and Lafia hotels in Ibadan where industrialists and tourists could
have decent accommodation and cool their heels.

Chief Obafemi
Awolowo set companies and empowered them with government
funding to shore up their working capital.

These include Western Nigerian Development Corporation
(WNDC), the Finance Corporation, and the Western Nigeria
Housing Corporation. The Western Nigeria Ministry of Industries
was the main supervisory department of government which
incorporated these mega-corporations.
WNDC under the leadership of Chief Obafemi Awolowo
floated a large number of industries and companies wholly owned
by the government or held in partnership with several foreign
investors.

These include: National Bank of Nigeria, Wema Bank
of Nigeria, Great Nigeria Insurance Company, the Nigeria General
Insurance Company, the Nigeria General Insurance Company,
Gravil Enthoven and Company, Lagos Airport Hotel, Vegetable
Oil, Cocoa Industries, Odu’a Textiles, Wrought Iron Ltd, Union
Beverages Ltd, Sunga Company, Wemabod Estates, Western
Livestock, Fisheries Services Ltd, Caxton Press, Epe Plywood,
Askar Paints, Nigeria Crafts and Bags Ltd, Nipol Plastic, Phoenix
Motors, and several others. Today, many of these companies are
still viable and have been consolidated in the Odu’a Group of
Companies which is regarded as the largest conglomerate in the
history of Nigeria .

The 25-storey building known as Cocoa House was built
started by Chief Awolowo’s administration. Chief Obafemi laid
the foundation and saw its completion by his successor as the
crowning glory of his party’s success story. After completion in
the sixties, the building remained the tallest in West Africa for
decades thereafter.

In his effort in the making of the nation, Chief Obafemi
Awolowo warned Nigerians that the introduction of second –
hand clothing into Nigeria would kill Nigerian industries.

They
hated him for that. Today, no Textile mill is standing in all of
Nigeria, while second-hand clothing business booms and so is unemployment.

In order to appreciate the efforts of Chief
Awolowo’s government and the welfare of people, two students
per secondary students in Ibadan were taken on a seven-day
excursion round the Western Region. At the end of the excursion,
the nationalist and Pan-Africanist, Chief Awolowo who was the
Premier of the Western Region of Nigeria, explained to these
students why he did free and compulsory education, free medical,
seven shillings and sixpence minimum wage for workers, the
first Television in Africa was tested, he laid the foundation of the
cocoa house which was the tallest in Nigeria as at that time, the
teachers’ college and roads, etc.

Under the leadership of Chief
Obafemi Awolowo, there was a vision, there was purpose and,
of course aim.

It must be really tough, living in the midst of people you hate so much

knowing that you can not go home because you will die of hunger

realizing that the only place you can live a meaningful life is in the land of the people you hate so much

coming to the realization that you and your people can never measure up to them.

Waking up everyday to understand that no matter how much you strive, home is only a place you can visit during Christmas to show off your bling blings, that you can never think of settling down at home.

Hating the language of your hosts, yet speaking it fluently because it gives you an added advantage of living a meaningful life in their midst, yet realizing that you aren't as fluent in your own mother tongue as you are with theirs

That's what fuels threads like this and

When you understand this as the motivating factor for all the hate posts and threads against Yorubas on Nairaland, then you won't be bothered anymore.

It must really suck to be you.

OH BTW, chief Obafemi Awolowo passed on to the great beyond in 1987.

Most of these urchins opening one thread or the other about the great Sage, their parents hadn't even met or dreamt of hooking up that year.

Yet, Awo occupies their minds and thoughts 24/7 even more than their parents.

Awo is indeed a legend.

I hope to be like him.

People talking about me decades and decades after I have passed.

This thread is dead on arrival. A similar one has already be opened in the past and all this foolish claims were already dealt with by legendhero. Awo is head and shoulder above the zik of aba any day. Case closed.

You guys had a field day in the past denigrating Zik achievements and promoting Awolowo because Igbos fell out of love with him because of his attachment to one Nigeria during the most painful period in our history. We replaced him with Ojukwu and didn't give a damn about what people said about him. That is what gave you guys the audacity to mention the name of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Awolowo in the same sentence.

Move to the streets of Nairobi and Accra or any city in Africa , ask any one to name African prominent nationalists they know. By the time they finish listing them you will understand how local your Awolowo is. Zik was not addressed as Zik of Nigeria, he was called Zik of Africa.

When Awolowo was still wearing political pampers and coming to political meetings in the west as a nobody, Zik was pushing for and making the necessary move for the establishment of the University college Ibadan. Despite the establishment of Ibadan ,it was not wholly independent because they were just an appendage of their parent university in the UK. That is it was a college of the University of London. Just like we have special colleges inside our universities.

This relationship did not go down well with Zik therefore he conceived a wholly indigenous university in 1955 which became operational in 1960. University of Ibadan became independent in 1962, two years after UNN were already managing their affairs. It was the same Zik through NCNC government who founded university of Lagos years later with Prof. Eni Njoku as its pioneer vice Chancellor under the astute leadership of Aja Nwachukwu as the minister for Education.

Awolowo was never near the man you guys have built him up to be in your very fertile imagination. You are free to compare him to anyone but the great Zik of Africa.

You are a bloody liar

"Lagos Colony" existed in the 1890s LONG BEFORE THE WEST WAS JOINED WITH THE EAST and there were ANNUAL COLONIAL REPORTS EVERY YEAR https://www.nairaland.com/4144976/lagos-1898before-nigeria-not-oil
http://libsysdigi.library.illinois.edu/ilharvest/Africana/Books2011-05/3064634/3064634_1898_lagos/3064634_1898_lagos_opt.pdf

Listing oil as an export commodity from Lagos .
Reading through it is clear that palm oil was produced and exported from Lagos in the 1890s

"Lagos" as mentioned in the report is not Lagos state

When you hear palm kernel and palm oil you always think its exclusive to East. There were two trade ports from which palm kernels and oil were exported - exports of kernels and oil in West were shipped out of Lagos, those in East shipped from PHarcourt.

Anytime you look at palm oil and kernels export they are contributions from West and East.

Cocoa is exclusive to West.

Even University of Ibadan started in Yaba, Lagos.

And according to history. Five of these universities were established between 1948 and 1965, following the recommendation of the Ashby Commission set up by the British Colonial Government to study the necessity of university education for Nigeria.

Many ibo prominent scholars, were products of Western Education during the period. How many prominent Nigerians of other tribes including prominent ibos are Eastern trained during the same period?. So much so that many foreigners were also beneficiaries of free Western Education & Health care.
I have noticed a new trend of some unscrupulous number of ibos trying to rewrite history under "Anonymous or unknown sources" in a bid to massage their tribal ego. How does a group of people feel that lying to themselves is the best way to boost their feel-good factor admist the present condescending realities that have beaten them hollow. Such habit is disgusting to sane minds.
Although, I have a little pity for you, it's an extremely difficult life to have gone through both physical and mental defeat.
