X0012:exactly! Even some government owned apps are guilty of this. I once reported a security flaw I found on one of the websites owned by the Federal Government, and the helpdesk agent thanked me for it. Till tomorrow they haven't bothered fixing it. If you know where to look on the site, you'd be able to see other people's data (name, DOB, BVN, phone number, etc) that you have no business seeing. It's sad and annoying at the same time. 3 Likes |

It is a requirement for NIN. The database are linked to each other. If you have a BVN already, you can check your NIN by dialing a code from the phone number registered with your account even without registering for the NIN. Summary is if you have a BVN, you already have an auto generated NIN. Naija246: 2 Likes |

Banks are not the only institutions that have access to BVN data.Other organizations, including NIMC also use BVN data. But people really need to understand that BVN is just a form of identification. That someone knows your bvn, date of birth etc is not a reason for You to foolishly divulge your ATM card number or PIN to the person. No bank will ever ask for your ATM PIN 3 Likes 1 Share |

Years ago I got my bvn and opened an account. Two days later i got a call from these fraudsters. It's either the bankers are scamming their customers or the banks are carelessly disposing sensitive info. Funny enough the voice of the scammer & banker that opened my account were the same 1 Like |

Hustle oh so that you wouldn't reveal your Bvn and bank details to loan apps on play store and May we not stay broke for too long so that we wouldn't bethinking of borrowing money form strange apps that would drain your phone battery with different calls |

The problem is there are many databases that are asking for BVN these days. If any of them gets compromised the whole system becomes compromised. An example is the NIMC data base. |

Yes My BVN is in the hands of scammers.. Last year October, a scammer called me and had my DOB, BVN ,Full name and other details... I was awestruck but I almost fell for the scam cos I was wondering how he got my BVN and other details... If not for intelligence,i immediately dropped the call and headed to the bank... The bankers were all nervous... Some instinct in me told me someone in the bank knew about the scam cos I just opened the account about five weeks before he called and had lots of funds in it... They promised to investigate.. I left the bank.. As I got home, I logged online and bought bitcoin with all the money I had in that account. If you believe your BVN is safe, you must be tripping. 2 Likes |

KINGTELLER:Last month, I got their call on a Monday, I gave them nothing, they called on Thursday, I gave them made up card number for an account I don't have ATM card for and on Friday of that same week, they called me again while I was still sleeping in the morning, I just threw the phone one side without ending their call. My point is with bvn alone, they can't extract money from your account, except you give further sensitive info. 3 Likes |
