fraudsters no invade anything.
Alot of Nigerians are being tricked by various apps on the play store to reveal their bvn...most of these apps are run by criminal networks all over the world.

Some unscrupulous people are also tricking Nigerians to give up their bvn when registering for national ID.
My gf was asked to provide her bvn when she went to register her national ID recently.
Fortunately for her she called me and I advised against giving it up.

Someone should correct me if I'm wrong but is bvn number now a requirement for registering a national ID card? huh huh
The two are tied on same platform.

Local Scammers should be beaten to death and their corpse donated as cadaver to a teaching Hospital so that their scrotum sac could be dissected in a pratical lab session

Not only is Nigeria poverty capital of the world, with 30% unemployment rate, GDP per capita of less than $2,028.18 USD you still want to scam Nigeria Ogun go kee you, your mate are scamming US, Australia , UAE all with over $50,000 USD GDP per capita with little or no poverty

Anyways, to the O.P, its not about bank compromise, its called Data Mining using webcrwlers , this is how big tech company stay afloat by selling user data to willing buyers, all the forms (Registration forms etc) you have filled online on sites that use browser cockies are mined, a smart guy just need to use his social engineering skills to skim out data from you

with a Software program that cost less than $100 Pro Email and Contacts Extractor, and a good Bulk SMS site that can bypass DND (do not disturb) you are good to go for this evil useless poverty scam

Bankers don't have time for this kind of children, I never chop scam.. bankers do account flashing and clearing, which banker would be chasing change and risking his or her job over peanut scam, when he seats all day infront of finacle software and Turnkey

For the record, no one can temper with your account for just having your bvn details.... Its impossible...its 1000% easier for ur account to be hacked via that long digit number on ur ATM and the 3 Security number behind it...than having ur bvn information...

No bank staff will risk his job, career and life just to get a peanut from your account.....

BVN is the only thing we've gott right as a nation....

For National ID, sir its important they request for that, they do so, so that your BVN information will match with that of your BVN .....so many people doing national ID, are doing so because their information on other ID doesn't match with their BVN.

Even when you want to apply for Nigerian Army Recruitment. Your BVN is needed, and it must tally with your credential name and it must be in BVN print out. TELL ME WHAT NIGERIAN ARMY NEED AN APPLICANT / CANDIDATE BVN FOR. they are all thieves.

I understand now. Wow. Thanks for this.
LaIabobo:
Firstly, Your BVN is actually not private. It is found everywhere. From NIMC, loan company, investment apps, various online registration. Those Data are mined by various tech companies.

Another thing to note it that the Fraudster called you to get information needed to defraud you. If not why did he bother to call you??

Gaining access to your BVN details is not enough to steal your money. They need your PIN, card details, or OTP.

That's why they keep calling and calling people hoping someone would be dumb enough to reveal his or her card details.

Even US and UK banks are not spared. Scammers have been dealing with them since time immemorial.

Just so you know, our banking system is actually safer than some other western countries.

lol, they call broke people a lot

the code is a OTP (one time pin) which is supposed to be private, she messed up by revealing that PIN to them.

This issue is part of the problem that comes with Fintechs. When making payment thru Paystack for example, there is no second-factor authentication. They only need your account number and OTP which would be sent to your registered phone number. And your money is gone.

Do you use first bank?

In most cases, it's the bank that gives out details of users to fraudsters.

It only happens when you have a reasonable sum of money in your account.

They'll never ever call broke people.
They call usoo. A dormant acc I left after nysc with 100 naira balance angry grin grin. When I started cursing the caller he said, is it on top this empty acc balance you are doing all this?

By just giving out that code, you have handed over ur right to them. By default they are the one in control of the account except you visit the bank...

When u got that code, its the bank sending u a secret code to enable u know that someone is trying to temper into your account however, if it is u, use the code to enable u continue...

They just used their phone or laptop to register u on online banking. Sending them the code, is to enable them have access to ur account

But because they have played with your intelligent, you became myopic to see it.

WetSmoke:
It is real. A neighbor was also called. They told her she will receive a code which she did. She called out the code to them and that was all. Her money was wiped. She didn't even divulge any card details.

I was duped early in the morning today. I misplaced my UBA atm card inside bus 3days ago. Immediately I chatted leo up. I was given assurance that the card has been disabled. To my surprise this morning I got a debit alert of #80000 from my ACCOUNT to an Opay account. I have the reference of the transactions including the Opay account number they transferred my money to. Please is there a way the identity of the fraudsters can be revealed? Nairalanders please help me. I have called Opay and Uba out on twitter. No reply since morning. Am heart broken
