A Brutally Honest Review Of Transsion Devices by YxCEc2kUDRp2RWy: 3:39pm On May 21, 2020
I browsed through the comment section of several phones on GSMarena.com then I stumbled upon the tecno/infinix line up. to be honest, some comments actually make me sad that we get swindled everyday by these companies yet some people choose to be ignorant about this.

in this post
I will be focusing on the two heavyweight champions of Transsion
the camon 15
the infinix note 7

we will start from the note 7

note that these comments I am quoting here are from INTERNATIONAL PHONE EXPERTS AND ENTHUSIASTS, not a comment from a marketer in computer village.

on the note 7

comment 1
a tecno marketer said

...No budget phone has FHD display..... [one of the best smartphone displays]

this was a blatant lie.

a GSMarena user called Cyberchum replied and I quote

Gionee Elife E3 I used way back in 2013 had a Full-HD display, despite being only 4.7 inches. What do you know? Lol

Last August, I bought Redmi Note 7 for $180. More than a year after Redmi Note 7 was released, infinix announced a phone with worse specs at higher price. 3 abysmal camera sensors, which are practically only there to make up numbers, and 6.9 inches HD display, with micro USB.

that was one lie down. and there is many to come

its all here

I have bought infinix note 7 (6gb). Its very nice to performance over all good but some thing need to improve like camera quality is not so good and finger print sensor not working fastly and fingerprint sensor place should be change from side unlock button to backside OR front blow screen, its very irritating sensor button while using mobile. And last thing is that his sound quality is not so good and his level of sound is not loudly. I listen songs in full volume and here is not much better sound. Over all performance is very good. I like it . Thanks
this could happen due to the use inferior parts. maybe.
marketers here make it look like Transsion devices are all perfect.

No doubt the Note 7 is an improved set but I've issues with its display features.
1) Note 5 has the following DISPLAY
Type LTPS IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
Size 6.0 inches, 92.9 cm2 (~78.4% screen-to-body ratio)
Resolution 1080 x 2160 pixels, 18:9 ratio (~402 ppi density)

2)Note 6 has
DISPLAY
Type AMOLED capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
Size 6.01 inches, 93.2 cm2 (~81.1% screen-to-body ratio)
Resolution 1080 x 2160 pixels, 18:9 ratio (~402 ppi density)

3) Note 7 has
DISPLAY
Type IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, 16M colors
Size 6.95 inches, 114.7 cm2 (~83.7% screen-to-body ratio)
Resolution 720 x 1640 pixels (~258 ppi density)
Protection Corning Gorilla Glass

My main issue is with the Resolution. Why is it that infinix never manitined the resolution quality but instead dropped it so low even lover the the N5 and N6 also the PPI Is almost Half of the previous Note series. That's really not cool. 😡. To me Resolution is everything.

Thanks.

Lol.so infinix downgraded the screen quality of their devices and increased the price. that's not good na.

another user replied and said
What I've noticed is nowadays Phone manufacturers release phones in 3 kinds and from my analysis they'll release one more Note 7 and that will be infinix NOTE 7 pro which will come with resolution 1080p...
Lol. Transsion making cash from Nigerians.

I just dont understand why these manufactures ie; Tecno Infinix and Itel cant make devices to fit modern standards still using...
* IPS LCD capacitive 720 x 1640 screen
* 4GB RAM
* MicroUSB 2.0
* XOS sucks
* Only 128GB version uses low-light video camera
* Records only 1080P@30fps no 60/120fps
* Low 48mp sensor
Will recommend Xiaomi Redmi Note 9s over this device

see for yourself.

a user named FO2 commented

IPS LCD 720P+ 6.9 inch display is totally a sick decision.
Note 6 used 1080+p on 6+" for f***k sakes.
I won't recommend anyone buying this.

a user know and XtrimVirus said

Infinix, this phone is not it, no wireless charging, 16mp FF camera, Micro USB charging. this phone is just a crap. Infinix wake up. Since you failed on Zero 5 that was the beginning of failing infinix fan.

note that most comments here were made by Indians or Pakistanis... hardly will you see Nigerian biased comments there. the comment section is balanced and juiced with facts. if you lie there... you're gonna get some nasty clapbacks.

there is two comments in particular that caught my eye though

the first

Anyone that assumes a phone with Qualcomm chipset is more battery efficient or powerful than any other chipset is plain tech-dumb.

A lot of things to into determining battery efficiency and performance. Kernel values, chipset nm, OS tasks and the performance level a chipset is designed at. You live in 2013.

1. Helio G70 of Infinix Note 7 is more powerful than SD660 of Redmi Note 7 as it is.
It's not an opinion but a simple fact. You can't argue about it for same reasons you can't argue that a budget car is faster than a sports car. It's simply made more powerful.

2. Redmi Note 7 has one of the lowest battery endurance of all 4000mAh phones. In fact, I don't know any phone with lower battery timing than RN7.
- Even 3100mAh and 34000mAh battery phones like Nokia 6.1 Plus and Honor 10 Lite have same/better battery timing as RN7. Infinix Note 7 better lasts 1.5 - 2 times longer than RN7.
What does that tell you? Go check RN7 reviews if you don't trust me.

3. RN7 has one of the lowest performance of all SD660 phones. Even Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 with weaker underclocked SD636 outperforms RN7 in terms of performance and battery.
- Despite SD636 (14nm) being less battery efficient than SD660 (12nm).
- Infinix Note 7 is capable of 40-50FPS in PUBG with PGT Pro while Redmi Note 7 can only pull around 35FPS, heat up and run out of battery in 4 - 4.5 hours.
- Even Redmi Note 7 users themselves don't recommend it if you want performance. And I'm one of them.

4. You say Qualcomm doesn't heat up when every gamer on RN7 user review is complaining about it overheating?

5. RN7 has serious battery drain issue. I bought it at the time of its release and it used to lose up to 10% battery overnight.
- I'm willing to bet this issue still exists and that users are complaining about it in its reviews.

7. RN7 doesn't have Android 10. At least don't make up lies.
- It still has beta version of Android 10 which was only given to few hundreds/thousands users. 90% of people have Android 9. When it gets Android 10, it'll have even more problems than before because that's what's been happening with it with every single update.
- While Infinix Note 7 comes with Android 10 as default. It's stable, battery efficient and doesn't lower device performance.

7. There are hundreds of budget phones with better sensors than RN7. In phones, camera software optimisation is more important than sensors. For proof, you can check Google Camera forums of all phones that support it.

This is what RN7 camera is like:
- RN7 camera pictures have over saturated colours, high noise & low details in low light. Portrait Edge detection is also bad.
- RN7 video camera doesn't give 60/120FPS like they claimed (I tested). In fact, SD660 is too weak to do 120FPS at 1080p resolution. You don't know anything about cameras.
- Slowmo of RN7 literally lags when you play it. Making it unusable without Gcam.
- RN7 selfie camera is 13MP with f/1.31 apertures at back.
While Infinix Note 7 selfie camera is 16MP with f/1.3 aperture at back. These specs mean Infinix Note 7 can take selfies with better details, have better low light picture quality and captures at higher resolution.

I'm not denying RN7 has better camera. It has one of the best camera in this price and that's the only reason I would ever recommend it - not for performance, not for quality, not for durability, not for anything else. In fact, I'd recommend Nokia 7 Plus over it for camera in this price.

And you need to install Google Camera on RN7 to make its camera worthwhile. Otherwise its camera is terrible in every way, like I explained in detail above.
- Infinix Note 7 also supports Google camera and it has FULL support level. Its camera specs are good, even better than RN7 when it comes to selfie camera. It means its camera is also pretty good if you install suitable Gcam.

There are much more problems in RN7 that I've already explained in earlier comments. Only thing you're correct about are display and feel.
RN7 has FHD display, although people keep reporting issues in it.
And glass back which feels nicer in hand compared to plastic back. But glass back is less durable.

Infinix Note 7 is designed for users whose first priority is gaming but also want their phones to be good/decent for any other use. In this price, it's the most powerful phone in the market in my country.

Nokia 7 Plus is better in many ways than Infinix Note 7, so if you don't think this phone suits your use, I recommend going with Nokia 7 Plus.
FHD display, SD660, 18watt Type C charging, Gyro sensor, 3800 mAh battery (lasts longer than RN7), best camera in this price with LEVEL 3 Gcam support level (highest level/only few phones have it), Aluminium body so you don't even need to use phone cover unlike RN7 & Infinix Note 7.
It only costs about $10 more than Infinix & Redmi Note 7 in my country.

the second

Infinix Note 7 is priced same as Redmi Note 7 here. Do you think your little country Nigeria is entire world? RN7 was way overpriced in my country at the time of its release.

I remember someone from Nigeria asking me for advise a year ago. I checked your country's smartphone market and it sucks. You don't even have any options in specs. You literally buy the same phone but from different brands at very high prices.
I felt sorry for him. This also explains why you hate Infinix Note 7. It suddenly diversified the concept of Product Line in Nigeria and you can't adapt to this change. You aren't progressive.
(deep)

Anyways, here it goes. I expect a equally detailed technical response from you instead of the blabbering you've been doing. If you can't, don't even bother replying because I won't entertain you further.
1. More powerful chipset.
- Infinix Note 7 gives 45-50FPS in PUBG with PGT Pro.
Redmi Note 7 gives around (or less than) 35FPS.

2. Same price, but:
Infinix Note 7 has 4GB RAM, 128GB storage.
Redmi Note 7 has 4GB RAM, 64GB storage. Out of which only around 42GB was free when I owned it.

3. Same price, but:
Infinix Note 7 has LTPS IPS LCD. You probably don't know these things so I better explain. Its display has viewing angles than any other phone in this price. Why? With 6.95 inch screen, it's aimed at becoming a perfect mini TV to watch with friends.
- Low resolution phones are usually only a problem when you hold them close to your face (same logic as TV) so in this kind of use (and at hand distance), it's display is actually more useful than RN7.

You do compromise display, but it's not that big of a compromise unless you're crazy about display resolution. One problem with Infinix Note 7 display is its visibility under sunlight. Redmi Note 7 also had this issue, so that's irrelevant to your question.

4. Same price, but:
Infinix Note 7 has Android 10 OS and will be updated to newer Android versions.
Redmi Note 7 is still on Android 9 and even if it gets Android 10, it'll be its last update.
FYI: Here, no other phone comes with Android 10 in this price. Some are scheduled to get it but it's unknown when.

5. Camera:
You said Infinix Note 7 has *low* 48MP sensor, while stock camera of Redmi Note 7 sucks even more. I've used RN7 so I know.
The colours of Redmi Note 7 were are always wrong, slowmo had lags, pictures were unusable in lowlight and 60/120FPS videos didn't even have 60/120FPS. It was fake.

Only reason I and other people like RN7 camera is due to Google Camera support, which Infinix Note 7 also has. With 48MP back camera with f/1.8 apertures & 16MP front camera with f/2 aperture, both with FULL Gcam support. You can expect its camera to perform decently, maybe not as good as RN7 but still good enough to replace it given other specs. Though selfie camera of Infinix Note 7 is way more advanced and can easily outdo RN7 with the right Gcam.

6. Infinix Note 7 18watt charging actually works (100% in 2 hours for 5000mAh battery).
Redmi Note 7 takes 2-2.5 hours to charge its 4000mAh battery Proving that it's fake. Which sucks because RN7 4000 mAh battery lasts as long as 3000mAh phones.

7. Infinix Note 7 5000mAh battery that *can* actually last 2-3 days unlike RN7 4000mAh battery which barely lasts 1-1.5 day.
In PUBG, my Redmi Note 7 would last 4-4.5 hours. Some report even less battery endurance. This is same as Nokia 6.1 Plus with 3100 mAh battery.

8. Signal Reception:
Infinix Note 7 has stronger signal reception than Redmi Note 7.
In fact, Redmi Note 7 has a complaint for weak signal reception. Same is the case for Redmi Note 7 Pro, Note 8 & 8 Pro. It's a common problem in Redmi/Xiaomi phones.

9. Less heating:
Redmi Note 7 heats up too much in heavy use while Infinix Note 7 doesn't.

10. OS Skin:
XOS of Redmi Note 7 is perfectly fine. It doesn't slow down phone's performance and doesn't use much battery. You don't lose 10% battery while sleeping either.

- MIUI of Redmi Note 7 is the entire reason its SD660 chipset performs worse than SD636 phones like Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1.
- It's also the reason behind why its 4000mAh battery lasts as long as 3000-3400 mAh battery phones.
- MIUI is most famous in Android community for bugs/problems. For proof, you can ready any Redmi phone user forum regarding updates. It only gets more issues with every update.
- When I sold my Redmi Note 7, I and many other users on Gsmarena were forced to download launchers like Evie and Nova Launcher because of bugs in MIUI.

The only advantage of MIUI is that it's feature rich so you can decorate your home screen/launcher a bit. By compromising everything I stated above.
What do you want more? Performance and battery while browsing Facebook/working/playing games or decorate your phone like a little girl?

I could go on but I know you can't even understand what saying. You're someone that can't tell his phone isn't working like its specs suggest even if you bought it (Redmi Note 7). I could sell a brick to you telling you it's gold and you'd buy it.

What do you make do of this? is the infinix note 7 better than the RN7?

PERSONAL VERDICT ON THE INFINIX NOTE 7

after considering and contemplating the different sides of the story.. I will admit that TRANSSION DID A GOOD JOB WITH THE INFINIX NOTE 7.
I'm not implying that the phone is perfect, but it's the only Transsion device in my knowledge that can actually go head to head with a Redmi midrange device (though the infinix note 7 is a flagship device not a midrange device like the RN7)

a wise man once said
.. out of every nonsense, there is some sense....
the note 7 is the sense that has come out of nonsense (Transsion)

but hold the phone... don't go ordering for that phone yet grin

the note 7 was specifically made for the Pakistan market. trust me when I say this.

its way cheaper and more affordable over there. Nigerian markets are the market that get the leftovers of their production grin

now. for the one we are all waiting for, the Camon 15

I will just keep quoting the comments are they roll in. and Also, I'll show some lies from some transsion marketers from the site grin

a user named Kas said

So this company likes going backwards.

another anonymous user said

Tecno canon 15 Pro is a crap look at the gpu the CpU p35 the glass protection the frame the LCD all are craps came the redmi note 8 pro or real me 6s

a tecno marketer called pallavmohan commented on the site and said

unexpectedly appealing phone from Tecno! the mediataek helio P35 processor is a good choice but its times for tecno to launch phones with the latest mediatek processors

hahahaha.
helio p35 is the latest mtk chipset according to this guy. just like how naira land marketers lie that mtk p22, a22 and a25 are latest processor best for Nigerians grin

be free from Transsion!!!!

another user called Franklin Kunithia commented
If you purchase devices because of battery life, have I got news for you my friend. The Helio P35 is not necessarily the most powerful battery efficient processor out there. Hell, even a Realme C3 sports a G70. Did you know even with upto 6 Gigs of RAM these Tecno devices cannot play PUBG Mobile without the occasional stutter here and there? Because of the poor GPUs. Couple the fact that added to all this the company's devices are always stuck on the same Android version for the entirety of their lives, it's a no-no from me for Tecno. I have two of their devices, the Phantom 9 and a Spark 3 Pro that I purchased because it was listed on Android 10's beta 3 devices, and sadly it's still on Pie, to date. Nobody can convince me to get another device from them again.

wait, what
tecno device of up to 6 gigs of ram can't play/handle a game like pubg well? wow!!!!
but almost EVERY YOUTUBE REVIEW on these devices tell us that these phones "play pubg incredibly well". so they were lying?

its up to you to decide if they were or not.

another user named Scolpa from Ghana said

Sad thing about tecno is that they don't update their phone. This phone will be on android 10 for the rest of its life

true talk.

This is lovely and more eye opening.

Personally I think G70 on the IN7 is an upgrade, let's give them credit for that.

Like the other guy up there said, 1080p would've been acceptable in the 6.95" screen like they did on the IN5 & IN6.

720p on a 7" device is just a turnoff

its just like saying panties made only for slim girls are recommended for extremely fat girls menh thats stretching beyond its limit. Same thing with a 720p (pants) on a 7" (extremely fat girls)

simply put, a slim girls only panties would fit in better for slim girls just the way a 720p resolution would fit in better in a 5"- 5.5" screen

720p on 7" is stretching beyond its limits

If they had used 1080p resolution it would have been acceptable. But wait a minute,

This is Transsion were talking about, definitely like that other commeter said, they'll release the pro and 1080p would come with it and maybe USB type C, and maybe even NFC, AMOLED and the price?

Are you thinking what am thinking? grin

Expect Transsion loyalists to come and say the opinions of those on gsmarena are nothing but rambling kids.

But on a serious note, the fact that Tecno didn't issue a return of all camon 15 phones given that the spec sheet says everything about it was a complete lie goes to show some of us that most people in Nigeria would rather be cheated and pissed on.

You can imagine,

it might just be the reason why they didnt wasted much time befor they released the camon 16.

Confusion and perplexity has made them released four camon devices withing 3 months.

From the op's article there are truths and lies.
The Android update-yh the redmi note 7 might not make it pass Android 10 but it'll still get miui updates for at least the next 2 years plus availability of custom ROMs for the next Android version.
The infinix on the other hand won't make it pass Android 10 unlike the guy said except infinix only releases update for his country which I doubt or he still thinks it was in the days of the note 5 with Android one.

Camera-yh the redmi note 7 camera isn't as it's hyped,it's good but not like you had expect but with gcam you are good to go.The redmi 7 camera is the one I think is not good enough but with gcam you are good to go.I think xiaomi has to stop making it's users rely on gcam on some of there devices. It reminds me of the overhyped umidigi a5 pro camera,I just hope the a7 pro won't be that way although the redmi note and redmi 7 camera is way better,it just came to my mind so I had to chip it in.
Infinix on the other hand the camera is over exposed as usual and it's not producing what a 48mp sensor should it's also poor at detailing in my opinion. They had the chipset for a better camera output this time but used there old recycled lens on it with fake extra cameras.

Display-(infinix) like someone above me said it's overstreched for the size,it's just terrible it's a downgrade from it's predecessors
(Redmi)-good display for the guy talking about viewing angles what's the excess of having a good viewing angles and a poor display,it means i won't get as much detail in a movie as I would in the redmi.

Gameplay performance-the g70 should be a better companion when it comes to gaming, the miui is a heavy skin plus probably poor optimization slowed down the redmi note 7.
Xos isn't a great skin like the person said it's twin sister hios is better in my opinion except it's navigation buttons.
Xos is not as heavy as miui and it's mostly ruined by the ads on its default launcher and poor user interface.

The main reason people from other countries might support the infinix in some aspects is because it's probably cheaper over there. All the infinix note 7 needs to make it a great phone is a USB type c port a 1080p display an fhd display, lesser bezels which looks disgusting because of its size and a better camera built around truth not lies about the sensors. Its not still worth it's price at least in Nigeria.
I think infinix and Tecno needs a better community support, umidigi doesn't release updates even transsisson does better in that in my opinion but they have a strong community releasing custom ROMs of the next Android version for them, transission only has very few devices which supports custom ROMs.
Tecno camon 15 premier on the other hand is nothing to write home about, not even a single advantage.

(Not related but I just discovered the OnePlus 8 fourth camera is a mini x-ray camera which was hidden under colour filters and could see through some cloths,tv remotes and some other things something you require a DSLR camera plus other equipments to achieve, which they plan to disable in there next update but some say it's only for China because it could start a controversy.)
