I believe it is quite condescending on Africa for the USA to insist on an external / third-party investigation into these issues. I believe Nigeria needs to play a strong role working with other nations across the continent to stand against this Neo-colonialism with a long-term view of buying out the USA and other foreign interests in the AFDB.

There is already a conflict of interest here as the more AFDB grows it begins to usurp the roles the IMF and the World Bank play in lending to African countries - Under normal circumstances Nigeria and other countries should be borrowing from the AFDB and not the IMF or World Bank. The West will not let this happen quite easily as it reduces their influence greatly on the continent. Whilst the allegations are unproven and the so-called whistle blowers have also refused to share additional facts / evidence against Adesina with the Ethics committee.

What tells us that this independent investigator cannot be bought over by western interests to deliver a verdict that wont be in Adesina’s favor? Abeg, lets all rally around this man and move on. The west should go and sit down.

Atiku still wants to run for president no doubt.

To the matter at hand, the allegations against this man are weighty. While we should stand up against interference from foreigners, it is wrong to support someone just because he is your compatriot or kinsman even when he fvcked up.
As it is, Africa is not mature enough to conduct a probe in their own matters. Is it not the same Africa that a "big man" can only be sent to jail if the government in power is against him?
A call for an independent probe is in order. If he is innocent of allegations leveled against him, he has absolutely nothing to fear. It is howeve a big shame for the country if the allegations are true.

I don talk my own

What has atiku running for president got to do with d discussion or is there anything he said that u can negate?
Who told u that it is Africans that conducted d investigation that cleared adesina of wrong doing? By d way, what are d laid down for dealing with ethics at afdb?

Just tired of this matter.

I can only hope he's not guilty.

If he is... Better to face your karma here than in the afterlife. undecided

But seriously, what is America's business with AfDB anyway? And why are they trying to force the organization to break its own rules concerning internal investigations?

Iamgrey5:
I think Adesina's problem was trying.to make AFDB an independent institution.

The French and Americans have always done their best to prevent Nigerians from leading any major African institutions because they fear Nigerians would try to make the institutions Afro centeric rather than it being the instrument of Western domination of Africa.

The $3bn bond was the beginning of his end.

Adesina submits your self for a thorough and most trusted, unbiased re-investigation.

No one sets an exam for himself and comes out flat, sounds absurd.

With the overwhelming corruption going on in Africa
Why should any reasonable person trust an outcome of an internal audit?

If not for an independent audit, the Lily-white self-styled incorruptible Swiss seff blatter would have still been running FIFA

In my humble opinion, to SHAME the US and their Treasury Dept let the man face the "Independent" inquiry and come out exonerated AGAIN

all these calls for support is like saying he has something to hide that it should not be revealed because he's a bright and brilliant Nigerian

US may feel vindicated if the man is not investigated again as they would say he has something to hide.

I'm told that a clean conscience fears no accusations

The independent probe will most likely take a longer time and they will ensure he is schemed out of re-election.

It's not about him coming out clean but missing re-election.

And who investigates world bank or federal reserve? The greatest scams this world had ever known are orchestrated in these two institutions. The US Senate called for a probe of the federal reserve and they were told to back off or else they will plunge the whole world into recession. They should back off.
Let Africa investigate it's own.

Great.

Let Buhari also contact Donald Trump directly and call this independent probe off. Let him also write to the African Union and African leaders for all of them to jointly endorse Adesina. We need to exert our influence in Africa and our institutions. If the USA wins in ousting Akinwumi, that would be a big blow on African geopolitics.

Akinwunmi's offence is that he expedited loan requests for African countries which the World Bank President claims increased the debt portfolio of those countries. Akinwumi's style weakened the creditor power of the World Bank and IMF (where the United States is the majority shareholder). The plan is to get Akinwumi to step aside and the investigation won't be concluded before the election date and a stooge of the United States is installed there to do their bidding.

Now if the US doesn't get her way, they may impose sanctions on the bank (for flimsy reasons). They are protecting their interests. Therefore, after this, African leaders need to buy out the United States and review her partnership in African institutions.

The crime is that some of the loans involved China. Africa must be free to deal with its own issues. The US is free to sell its shares in the Afdb. It must not bring its war against China to Africa. This was what robbed Africa of its resources between 1960- 1990 when the US and the then USSR used African countries to fight their proxy "cold war" leading to the propping up of dictators such as Mobutu in Zaire, the mysterious death of African focused leaders such as Patrice Lumumba. The US should keep its fight with China out of Africa.

My question is:
What is the concern of the US, a North American country with the African Development Bank?

One stands to reason they have ulterior motives to push out Adesina at all costs.

They are the largest non African donor and shareholder and the second largest in the AFDB as constituted so they want to ensure corporate governance is carried out.

Unfortunately if they say he is fine, then he is. You are forgetting that there is a governing board that makes the final decisions for loan approvals and that the president cannot singlehandedly approve anything.

The US does not care about corruption. He is cockblocking the world bank and IMF from their voodoo loans to Africans. Wake up and small the coffee. The federal reserve bank should allow itself to be investigated b4 the US should come here to say crap.

They are the highest non-African shareholder (which is an anomaly), as well as the highest shareholder in the World Bank and IMF. So long as Akinwumi Adesina sits there and continues to expedite approvals of loans to African countries by AfDB, loan requests to the World Bank and IMF reduces significantly which affects US lending position through these institutions and ultimately thwart their hold in Africa.

So their investment in AfDB is not out of love for the development of Africa, but out of interests to have a stake in the continent. Akinwumi threatens this position.

PS: Donald Trump employed his daughter and son-in law as well as admitted to grabbing women by the pussy. Why has Steve Mnuchin not called for an independent investigation?

That’s your opinion. It’s not a fact

Nigerians leaders are known worldwide as kingpins of corruption. This support from corrupt politicians will even make them double down on their position for an external audit.

But of course whatever the outcome in Nigeria crooks or thieves or coup plotters we will celebrate them so long as they get money, in politics etc
