Who remembers this man?

Aroma Ufodike, from Nnewi, Anambra State, who appeared on the popular TV Show “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire in Nigeria” on September 11, 2009, and won 10 million naira. He was the first and only person to win the top prize in Nigeria, I think.

He got all the questions without using any life line.

When he was on the last question, he said “I want to use my 'phone a friend' option to call my family at home that I’m about to win 10million Naira.”

My thoughts also go to the intellectually balanced Frank Edoho

Where is Gulder Ultimate Search?

These are the type of programs we need to see on air not the extremely immoral Big Brother Nigeria.

This is worth celebrating indeed, but I'm not trying to shame BBNaija either.. I'm just saying..

I wish these intellectually stimulating TV programmes could return back to our homes. #GodBlessNigeria

BBnaija is shit and it doesn't add value to our society at large.

He was really enigmatic on the show. His confidence was out of this world. He is a rare gem. I was at the verge of crying when watching the show, I was just wondering how a man can be so blessed intellectually. I really do miss this show, I wish it can be brought back.

How come this post that was created last year is just making front page now? It would hit front page the same day it was created If it was a snake thread.

What I learn from this thread is

Destiny can only be delayed

Well I blame the OP, he should have added snake to the topic

I have been on this show, as part of the audience. Wonderful studio back then in Omole. Frank Edoho changing suits in between recording sessions. It was fun.
There's no serious content in television programming again, just hot air. It's now all about the money. And sex sells.

chai, Op can lie, Aroma did great on the show, he used his lifeline and he never called to inform his family he was about to win, he called a friend to verify an answer, i guess you want to spice up the gist, but come on, do not lie to us like that, we are not suffering from short attention span and i wasn't that long ago cuz we're not kids here.

Nigerians always confused this man with the American who called his dad to inform him he was about to win 1 million dollars.

This Nigerian used all his lifeline. He used the "Call a friend" to verify and answer

I watched it live. The answer to the ₦10M question was Maathai Wangari, Nobel Prize Winner.

To correct the O.P, the final question was answered by Aroma's friend with his phone a friend lifeline! He also promised to give the friend out of his winnings for helping him out. cool

The one l watched, that won #10 million used all the 3 options...the last question he answered was about a Nobel prize winner which he called his uncle and the uncle gave him the correct answer....such a brilliant guy
Exactly. He used all three lifelines. the op just added his own salt and pepper to spice up the gist.
the Last question was About Professor Mathai Wangari the female Nobel Peace prize winner from Kenya.

Remember him. One of the most tensed nights of the Who wants to be a millionaire...

Saw him weeks or months after that episode, around Silverbird galleria.

Cool dude.

Don't know what's happening to him now. Hope all is well.

I think it was a script well acted by the organizers/sponsors of the show

I was actually reading through the comments to see maybe some would point out the lies. The event OP narrated actually happened in the US when John carpenter won in 1999, he was the 1st person to win the 1million dollar price.

I still remember Aroma's last question, it was about Maathia wangari's Nobel prize for peace & he used his last life line (call a friend) to answer the question.

Lmao! Didn't see the show; but if the op's claim that he used his "phone a friend" option to call and inform someone he is abt to win 10m; then a John carpenter script was pulled on us

There is no script here because he actually use all his life lines & the last question was about Maathia wangari Nobel prize for peace. I don't know why the OP included John carpenter's script in the post, perhaps to make it sound interesting.

Don't mind the lie lie OP,
It was John Carpenter that didn't use any lifeline and called his Dad that he was about to win $1m

I also saw that show, I would like to correct the OP, Aruna actually used all his lifeline.
He used the three lifelines on the last 3 questions, I remember it was his cousin he called for the last questions "a question bothering on who won a nobel price for peace" the answer was Natal Wangari I remember.
He was even able to choose that option with the help of Frank, who told him the answer his cousin choose..

I was so happy that night to have witnessed such a show of brilliance...

Haba op... He used all his life line, though Aroma was quite amazing that night, his last life line was phone a friend and He called his friend "Mr. Stone" his cousin. His last question was " Prof. Maathai Wanagari was a Nobel prize winner in which of this?"
a. Literature
b. Peace
c. Economics
d. Medicine

He hunched "peace" but he also contemplated choosing "Medicine" because that was related to her discipline before he called his friend, his friend confirmed it was "Peace". Mr. Stone was apparently as intelligent as his friend Aroma. He got "peace" right.
Prof. Maathai Wanagari is a Kenyan Nobelist for contribution to sustainable development, democracy and peace. She was the first African woman to win the prestigious prize in 2004.

The most magical thing is that abt 18months later after he won the millions... A guy on hot seat was gunning for 500k when he asked to call a friend........
He gave "aromas" no. (This guy). And frank was shocked and asked him if he knew him which he nodded affirmatively... When he was called up and frank exchanged pleasantries especially asked if he organised the party he promised his friends...the question was thrown at him.....

You won't believ e this guy gave the answer even before the options were called in...I was in awe!

The question is who won the pole vault gold medal event in the 1972 Olympics..?

That guy is not normal
niggi niggi I'm in awe! even me, how on Earth am I supposed to know who won the gold in a jump event in 1972. i give it up for aroma

remember him. I think he is a professor. Very cool and calm when tackling those trivia. And I think he didn't exhaust his lifeline . he was that intelligent. His winning question was about Marie Curie.. first time I ever heard the name.

No, it wasn't. The question was about the noble prize Wangari Maathai had won and he asked to phone his cousin.

He answered his questions from experience just like in slum dog millionaire. He used his line for the last question aboutd 2004 novel prize for economics & he called his cousin. Some other questions he'll say when I travelled to So so country I saw d island or mountain . There is a footballer he said lived a floor above him on a storey building because Frank do ask him how he's so sure of the answers & he'll give those instances
