Simple. This story looks to good to be real.

Ezypretty:
Please don't quit your job I beg you in the name of God. Get an apartment close to your working place and change your kids school

Don't try it. 2m isn't enough capital for business that would pay you anything close to your current salaries.

There are businesses that you can do while working...have you tor of Uber/taxify? Don't resign your job yet.

Dear all,

I really need an advice. I currently work with one of the Nigerian banks. My monthly take home is about 450k and quite good. My major problem right now is that I have just been transferred from a Branch at one end of Lagos to another end of Lagos. All efforts to convince my boss to deploy me to a closer branch has proved abortive.

Going to work daily right now is a very difficult especially during this raining season and covid 19th period. I spend roughly 3-4 hours on the road when going to work and back home.

I am currently raising my kids on my own right now and dont know how I would manage when school resumes. Before now I drop them off on my way to work in the morning and my friend picks them up to her house in the afternoon till I get back.

I currently have a savings of 2million and would love to start a biz( I dont know what kind) as am comptemplating resigning and start a biz instead so that I can have time for my kids and not die due to stress

Please i really need advice for you all.

I think you're being too hasty and would appeal to you not to make a hasty decision that will cause you damage because you sound like someone who's about to react ( from negative reactions ) rather than someone who's about to embark on a well planned action. There's a difference. Trust me I know.

I qualify to give you sound counsel as a business operator and would like to discredit any thoughts of you quitting you job because of your savings.

Let's take it step by step

1. Financial security is important. Can you reduce your monthly expenses and boost your savings so you can save let's say 300k monthly, which in six months gives you an approximate of another 2 Million Naira

2. Start the process of setting up a business while you're still employed. This way you can weigh the options if it's for you or not. And can easily convert your salaries towards the establishment of the business

3. Do not quit your job until you've had a well to Houghton out business plan and have put it into effect. Remember money is just half the equation, the other half the business

4. Be more tolerant rather than being irritated because things aren't working for you from a place of convenience. Start thinking positive thoughts about the positives of your job. I'm sure it can't be all negative. Whatever it's costing you, give yourself the opportunity to reflect and tell yourself giving it six more months for proper planning won't do you harm

5. Get a second accommodation closer to work. So you can shuttle between both ends. Friday home till Sunday. Have you considered this?

6. Get a nanny and if you can afford it, get a driver too and delegate some of the duties with the kids care to them.

7. Give yourself time. Do not jump to the next thing until that so-called " next thing " has been fully constructed while you're still maintaining the one that looks stressful.

I love this advice. This is the perfect advice and this was exactly my thoughts.

2 millions is not enough to start as i think of you and quitting your job of 450k monthly is not advisable.
I think you need to relax your mind and be prepared before you're ready.

Do not resign. My job situation is just like yours, but not bank job though. I do the job and also do business ( trading on Boom and Crash). I make additional $45 to $50 daily. I trade when I wake up and before bedtime. I started with my savings of N360k. You can do same. Do not resign

Don't even think of resigning at this time. In the Nigeria of today 450k is not a small money.
My advice to you as a family man would be :
Relocate to your office area and you will get a nearby school for your kids.
Get a close family relative to stay with you and help with the kids.
Make sure you do not resign until you have saved at least 10-15million and then think of moving abroad

2 million is not enough. Do not even think of resigning. Seems you don’t know the conditions and market forces against the average entrepreneur. Right now a dollar is 500 naira. Was 365 two months ago.
You need maybe 5 million before you can consider a solid business. Even at that you’d also need someone trust worthy to help you sell while you prepare to retire. It should be a gradual process. Don’t just jump from a steady income to something with risks you are not sure of. Remember the average business could run into losses.

Why not park/relocate closer to your new place of work, besides 2 million is a small capital to set up a business and the chances of a business surviving for up to 3yrs in Nigeria is less than 30%

The number one thing you have to understand is business is not what you can just venture into unplanned.

For you to build a successful business you need to change your mindset. Therefore, I will advise you to read books that can help you in that aspect. Get kiyosaki's book on cashflow quadrant, business of the 21st century etc.

Moving from an employee to self employed can't reduce your stress, can't give you more time. Changing your thinking is the only way.

Don't resign use part of your savings to start the business, once your first phase of income of the business shows you can think of resigning and not.

While you think and make better plan, I think you should consider number 5 and 6 of the advice above most appropriate.

How can you start a business without a business plan? You have to a concrete plan first, weigh the odds before you can quit your job. Alternatively, you can look for a more suitable job that is within your primary areas of commute.

Don't you ever try losing a job that pays that much monthly .It would 've been understandable if you were sacked . I will rather advices you get your self a small accommodation close to your new place of work and also a school for your kids. Gradually you will start getting use to your new environment . Business in nigeria should be the last option cos you might end up losing your money. How about your husband ?

@op sincere advice.

don't quit, keep saving...

at the nearest possible time, buy a land in a developing area.. build 2-3 mini flats for rent.

keep one within or outside the flats for yourself.

once you achieve this, if u r tired of the stressful banking job, budget 500k to buy a federal govt slot.

resign and move to the less stressful govt job (preferably lecturing) use the spare time to go into a business u r passionate about.

I know of someone who worked in this top banks earning similar amount as u are. he followed this plan above, saw it through in 10 years.

Na big boy now, he earns govt pay, collects his rent every new year and has peace of mind.

all the best
500k? May be ministry job sir, but never federal agencies.
Re: Should I Resign My Good Bank Job And Start A Business? by Goodzinny: 9:11am On Jun 02, 2020
Don't resign please, the pay is very nice. Keep on saving. You have to employ a close family friend or member to take care of the kids, taking them to school and bringing them back. You have to also find another good school for them in your new place of work and put them in after school class to help them in there homeworks. Next time try to be good to your boss, be buying gifts for him/her, the bible said it that gifts paves way for you. because you can't tell tomorrow as it is happening now.
