There was a study in UK in which the same cv was submitted to different places of work, and names where changed. One name was a common British name, say John Thomas. Anotjer was Muslim name. Say Ibrahim Muhammed. And another sounded strange, like Anambra Zamfara

Although the cvs were same except for names, the british name got invited to interview all the time. The muslim name was invited sometimes. The person with the least invitation to interview was the person with the name like Anambrq Zamfara. That is institutional racism. U are already discriminated agaist even before u leave ur house, just because of ur name. .

One of my best friends is a white british girl from a poor background. Although well educated, she worked in pubs and bars until recently . When i got to know how well educated she is, i asked her why she has not been doing professional jobs, she said bwcause she did not know she could.

This story is true.

I met her in my previous work place where she was working in assistant support role. She had already stopped working in pubs and bars. But she was working in a position too low for her education.

I have been supporting and encouraging her to dream high. The problem she faced and still faces is her family background was poor and dysfunctional. She is the only educated person in her family. But she has been following the examples of her family members by doing only those jobs her uneducated family members do.

That is the impact poor background can have on someone. There is something called intergenerational poverty. Read up on that maam.
