Does it really matter who is producing what? It's glaring we all need each other to survive. That food stuffs is affordable in Lagos is because of the north. The trailers of food they bring down to sell here makes the food relatively cheaper to purchase. Though that's not charity as they make more money here than they would in their state.

That's not the issue. The central government should carry every region along and shouldn't make any region feel cheated. Federal character should be obeyed and employment into the federal civil service should be based on state and not local govt as local govt division is not fair when compared to the population of people residing in a state cool

Federal contracts should be based on merit and distributed evenly. If everybody is carried along, any renege can be ignored. grin

To be honest bro, Coal already outlived most of its importance to us in the 1957 period to 1966 war because the colonialist used it majorly for building the rails and for electricity corporation. By 1955, the coal mining had somehow become moribund because the government made use of diesel engines instead. Also, we don't export coal anymore so it dosen't generate any revenue and you can clearly see from the picture I attached that we were already importing Diesel oil as at 1957s. Check the Import duties and you will see that.

Let me say u are correct.. Coal from the East was powering nigerian rails and electricity up until 1957, yet u said the east contributed least because the coal wasn't sold?....Ah brother it is well with you...so if the cocoa from the west wasn't sold but used for national purposes it means the west produced the least??

The inequality in Nigeria is creating 20 new political units in the former northern region, but only 17 new political units in the former two southern regions.

No federal country ever used land mass or population as parameter to create too many new political units in an area with large land mass or bigger population, except Nigeria.

Truly during the 1900s before the region became autonomous, if you are to merge the south together (Western and Eastern), we generated more revenue than the Northern Region.

However when each region because autonomized, On average the Northern Region contributed more to the federal government than the Eastern Region.

Now talking using the data of the 1954s until oil boom:
Most of the revenue of the Federal government comes from Custom & Excise, Direct taxes, License & Internal Revenue, Mining, Rent on Government property, and etc.

The Custom and Excise duties is the highest source of revenue for the government and infact it contributes averagely 60-70% of the revenue.

The custom charge export duties on agricultural produce entering into world trade. The major produce that generates the highest revenue are :
1. Cocoa
2. Groundnut
3. Palm Kernel
4. Palm Oil

Sometimes, palm oil and palm kernel alternates between the 3rd and 4th spot.

Note: On average, the Western Region sells more Palm Kernel than the Eastern Region based on the Nigerian Government gazette from 1957-oil boom period.

This is false! Palm oil/kernel had always been the most valuable export prior to the discovery of oil, not even cocoa. The whole talk about the North funding Nigeria before oil is balderdash told by moronic, self-deceiving hordes. The South has always contributed much more. That was exactly why the South was amalgamated with the North so that the excess from the South can shore up the deficit from the North.
